Lacking Strategy for World Diplomacy
In my searches I've yet to find any helpful strategy or tactic articles for World Diplomacy. Obviously the point is to develop your own twist on the common strategy, but for someone like me playing their first world game after focusing on classic and modern for two years it's a problem. Anyone have any tips for World Diplomacy (specifically Argentina).

iOS 10 Problem
Okay, so it's kind of shit in terms of typing things. It used to be that when I was typing on my phone when the typing went off of where the screen was currently positioned, the screen would move to accommodate so you could always see what you are typing, so now when I'm on my phone I have to physically move where on the page the screen is viewing to see where I'm typing. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Do players sometimes get randomly muted during game?
This happened in my first game and now it happened in my second. I'll look down at the list of players and one of them will just randomly be muted. What's going on? Did I randomly click on the screen and mute somebody? Site problem? A bug? I caught this one pretty quickly so I don't think I missed any important conversations but still!!

Variants - why so few?
Greetings, noble players of the hobby.
I wonder why this site has so few variants. Most sites either have lots (vDiplomacy) or just a few connected and similar ones (PlayDiplomacy) or just good old vanilla (Backstabbr).

If a player didn't move at the very beginning(1901S)
Hello all,
I have a slow-pace game now, but the Turkey guy didn't move in 1901S, and we waited her/him 3 days. If the guy has forgotten this game, could we kick this guy out and recruit a new player? Thanks.

@"If the economy is thriving but our people are not, then what good is the economy?"

In case you can't tell, i entirely agree. I'm reading a book right now which was written in 1932, in the middle of the great depression. It basically states (i can't find the quote right now) that the economy is a human invention designed to improve the quality of life of people, and if it is failing to do so it must be re-invented.

At the time there was capability to produce more goods than every before and need for goods, but no ability to pay. Thus demand was very low. (it is amusing as he keeps making references to the 'experiment' in the Russia.. but i haven't gotten to his analysis of it)

Generally, however, i believe we have a measurement problem. We measure GDP, and thus anything which contributes to it can be consider measurably good. Unmeasurable good things can be argued over, but ultimately make no difference.

So are much easier to ignore.

You will look at people saying gay marriage is great for the marriage industry, so we should allow it. And even claiming that this is the reason certain politicians support it.

And i don't know how cynical you have to be to believe this. On the other hand, i do believe that politicians honest think that what they are doing is best, even those who think any gdp growth is in the interest of the social good.

Domestic crude oil production has skyrocketed under Obama. Remember, the US has been producing so much oil that OPEC had to crash the price to keep their market. He's moved to place some restrictions, and there was that highly visible (though largely irrelevant) Keystone holdup, but in context it looks more like guiding the river than fighting it. Don't count on oil being "run out of business" any time soon.

That's the thing about the Democrats, they're creating an oil boom while vehemently despising fracking. Republicans keep saying their going to fail, but instead they persevered and new techniques with horizontal drilling have emerged.

Most times the Democrats fail an shift blame around, but in this specific instance they did brilliantly in technological innovation.

although technically it was done via the private sector though...

um, @brainbomb, Obama lifted the moratorium on atlantic drilling less than a month before BP and was forced to walk that back because of the blowback. He also failed to yank BP's licenses despite the MANY MANY violations BP has been cited for in their operations across the country.

Obama's been pretty good, but his "all of the above" energy policy has been a disaster.

Yeah, but with energy policy, he has to walk the line of what is going to be successfully challenged and what won't. With individual environmental actions, he doesn't have multiple industries ganging up on him.

I see. well I admit I had sort of hoped he would have been a very very green presidency. I would have preferred the "Energy Independence" that all these candidates keep promising. Unfortunately most of these candidates are obsessed with fracking which has been wonderful for oklahoma (5.2 earthquake I woke up to saturday morning).

I was about to says YEAH GO OKLAHOMA 5.2 EARTHQUAKE!!! but then i realized all the midwest felt it so... it wasn't just us :'(
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

I felt it on the western shore of Lake Michigan. Seriously, it was big.

Also, for clarity's sake, the odds of a 5.2 being caused exclusively by fracking (like many of the 3s and low 4s might be) are fairly slim. The deepest well ever drilled on Earth went 7.5 miles deep and most fracking wells don't go much further than a mile or maybe two if I remember correctly. The epicenter of this one was 6 miles deep. As such, the factors that might lead to an earthquake without injection of wastewater into brittle faults were likely present as well, at least according to a geology professor I talked to earlier at a nearby college. Doesn't mean fracking didn't affect it, but it's unclear how it directly affected it other than creating and possibly accentuating existing faults in the crust closer to the surface.

the sinkage of the tectonic plates is an interesting science, I actually remember a few years back people discussing rising sea levels causing this: al gore era, but that got debunked.

since then I haven't heard anything as much about it, and my geology isn't ROCK SOLID :D

yeah i apologize for that, but on another note fracking certainly wouldn't help the problem...

Rising sea levels causing plate movements at the *bottom* of the oceans? Yeah, I think you were mistaken about what you were reading. You should double check that.
JamesYanik (548 D)

"but that got debunked"

and it had something to do with pressure or something, but it wasn't sound.
