Contracts
Does anyone on here regularly look over or write contracts for a business (technically under Illinois law)? I have a new contract written up for my company I could use a hand and I don't wanna pay someone a brand new car an hour just to tell me it's all good. I would love you forever if you have the credibility to help and are willing to help <3

"Burkini" Bans in France
Apparently, France is banning all sorts of religious garb, specifically targeting Muslim women, in the name of personal freedom and cultural values. Critics claim that hijabs, burkas, and other similar face or head coverings are repressive of women and are not fitting with the culture of openness in Western Europe. Thoughts?

"Conservatism" and military spending
Something that puzzles me. A lot of people who call themselves conservative are generally big on pushing the small-government, "tax is theft" line. At the same time many of those same people are huge supporters of the armed forces.

How is decided which nation I get in a game?
I couldn't find an answer to this in the FAQ section.
When entering a new game, does the system distribute the nations to the players randomly? How is it decided who gets which nation? Is there a possible way of influencing the distribution, setting up preferences etc. or is it always totally random?
Thank you for answers.

Boston Massacre Tournament Sept 24-25 Cambridge, Mass
The Boston Massacre was the first F2F tournament I ever played in and was a big inspiration when I created the webDip F2F Tournament and The Boroughs. I'm very happy to be reviving this tournament along with Valis, 2nd, and RLH. For more info, check out www.BostonMassacreDiplomacy.com. Hope to see you there!

Yeah, right now after this season's moves, Russia couldn't ally all that effectively with Italy even if he wanted to. I mean, maybe there's some funnies around Bud/Vie, but it's all a bit dicey. It'd take a year of extraction first to be effective. And I'm not seeing great attacking opportunities...

And for that matter, Austria isn't exactly in any position to attack Italy *or* Russia all that effectively this season either... and Italy is the same, lol.

I dunno. :-) Maybe they're all three in on it together to make it look like they're fighting, but secretly they're not, and it's just a plot to confuse the gallery. (I don't actually think that, to be clear.)

As for France - seems like there's a good chance he'll break through to Ruhr next year, no? Germany has to disband something, and either way, it leaves some pretty strong opportunities, especially since that's a Russian Fleet in Holland, not an Army... What's Russia going to offer to entice him? (Apart from all of Scandinavia and Germany, which is what France is already poised 100% to go full offensive after once that line cracks a bit...)

This is a good opportunity to talk about the tactical use of the save and ready buttons (may they forever be apart).

8 hours in to a two day phase, with everyone having had plenty of time for a large amount of diplomacy, and we see Italy already readied, Russia saved, and Austria with no orders entered.

What feeling, if any, does this give you about what's going on?
thorfi (1023 D)

Time to break out the sad violins for Austria?
Octavious (2701 D)
12 Jun 16 UTC
Not a clue. We could see the AI continue, we could see Italy and Russia join forces, we could see Russia and Austria join forces.

If I had to make the call I'd opt for Russia allying with Austria, with Russia taking all of Turkey and giving Rumania to Austria as a welcome gift. But in all honesty it could go any way.

That fleet in Trieste does seem to insinuate pending conflict.

Shame they don't rip into each other more in public press, this would be a lot more entertaining with the occasional tirade.
Octavious (2701 D)

Ahh, some witty public press banter from TCS! There are some players who, will to win be damned, you just can't see yourself stabbing.
Thanks TCS. Very good Global message.
It's hard to say what Austria will do this phase. He has fairly equal potential for both the I/A and A/R. It's just hard to tell what's going on with the F Tri build and failed convoy to Gre.

I really like Valis' suiciding. He still could have kept two centres this year, but would rather uselessly hit France. While it may not be very strategically sound, it's at least entertaining to keep Russia in first place.

SD has kept up his leading position, still not having taken a single risk to get where he is. I wonder how well he'll be able to break the Nth or Ruhr, though.

Hehe, Xorxes Draw Flag is gone, and SD never had one up in the first place... I swear I thought TCS had one up but it's gone at the moment. Fun times...
thorfi (1023 D)

@PF: I must say, did you not expect Bur S Bel-Ruh? Guaranteed success... I must admit I expected F EngC S Edi-Nth, but I guess SD hasn't taken any risks all game, so I probably shouldn't have expected that...
No I expected him to be able to get Ruhr; that's not what I was commenting on. Even in getting into Ruhr, he has a ridiculously slow invasion of Germany on his hands, given that it's packed full of units. So "how well he'll be able to break through Ruhr" is not very well.

For Nth, Russia could continue to hold it this year, but it will surely fall in the next. I understand why SD ordered the support of Pic-Bel. I would have thought it quite likely to succeed as well. If it had, Nth would be easily taken this turn. Still, I think he needs to be taking Nth this turn, otherwise he may not be able to get a build next year.
thorfi (1023 D)
14 Jun 16 UTC
@PF: Ah that makes more sense :-) I misinterpreted your original statement as just being about the break in the line. As for breaking *through*, yeah, Nth is critical, which is why I would have gone for that rather than covering Bel - which would have been heavily surrounded and easy to dislodge even if Russia had gone for it with two units.

Exciting stuff for the viewing public. Three retreats to the obvious places and it only took 48 hours!

I only hope that this break-neck pace and extreme diplomatic action can be maintained!

All aboard the slow train! *tooot*

Has anyone figured out if Italy, Russia, and Austria are actually working together in any combination at all? As far as I can tell it's just everyone vs everyone. :-) It's kind of hilarious...

Here's my peanut: I'm not a big fan of the A/I moves. I think you could have written a set with more opportunity for progression. And Italy isn't the one in the alliance who needs to grow right now, so I don't understand why the moves tried to get him a build instead of Austria.

This is an interesting game, but I see no reason it should end in a solo for anyone

Octavious (2701 D)

The latest exciting 48 hour retreat phase is almost at an end, soon to be followed by an equally tense 48 hour build phase. At times like this you find yourself crying out for a seven day pause to give you the chance to catch your breath!
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Russia has a decent shot. France has failed to capitalize on the instability in Germany and it appears that Russia did his due diligence to keep him out, so his odds are slimmer.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
19 Jun 16 UTC
That said, France supporting Italy into Munich makes zero sense if he's trying at all to solo, so I presume that he isn't anyway.
Octavious (2701 D)
20 Jun 16 UTC
There's no reason I can see why there shouldn't be a solo. There are four nations with solid foundations upon which to build. All you need is a bit of willpower and a lot of luck.

Solo potential falls along several avenues at this stage. France, Italy and Austria could war against Russia under the guise of a 3-way until one of them (or two united) gains enough an opportunity to mount a solo charge.

The other option is that Russia allies with either Austria or Italy and does much the same thing as a twosome.

Or they could just kill England and have a four-way... but what's the point in that?
thorfi (1023 D)

I can sort of see I/R cutting out A from the draw, that looks viable without risking R going over 18. Especially so if F or even I grabs a couple of SCs off R's western holdings, letting R take A's SCs then becomes less of an issue.

F/A/I vs R makes some sense, but I'm not seeing that as a particularly stable alliance that would even get all the way through to completely killing R before falling apart - if only because F would maybe actually become a solo threat, and I don't think anyone, not even F, would necessarily profit fast enough from it to be a realistic solo threat that wasn't vulnerable to "rest of board stops the solo".

R could theoretically solo, if F/A/I made completely incompetent moves (which seems extremely unlikely). He'd have to pick up 5 out of 7 the Austrian/Balkan SCs somehow, and eliminate E, all without losing any existing SCs (or at least exchanging them). Seems... difficult.

So, yeah, best realistic outcome I can see is 3WD instead of 5WD/4WD. So it's down to "how do the bigger powers feel about draw reduction".
