I love the shit here in the forum. I'm almost done with school, so after this post, I am asking goldfinger to amplify me for a period of no less than one year. I feel after all my contributions my posts here deserve to be printed in fontsize+5 (not Arial). I'll use the time to teach you all on conservative values.

Adobe data theft exposes widespread problem of weak passwords
Apparently the most popular password among Adobe users was "123456" - (LINK: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-24821528)

What's YOUR WebDip password? Do you have a more secure one than that? Post it here and we'll see if the forum agrees!

Western Spring (as opposed to Arab Spring)
How long until we really start to get rid of our own tyrants?

Just curious what people think and all... Also trying to have some compassion for the Arabs because right now it's just one of those things happening somewhere in the east for me... It would come much closer if I see what this would mean in the west I suppose... Discuss.

"It seems like ever since the mods announced they were taking a relaxed approach it's been nothing but."

Versus.......

"It seems like ever since the mods announced there was a line to be crossed, people have been trying to cross it."

Seriously, TMOW? Who do you think is going to give in first, the regular forum poster? No fucking way. It's the mods give in *just a little bit* and actually DO WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO or you're going to deal with this shit for a little bit of forever.

So I'm not sure why this is such an issue, if you don't like a mods choice then send an email to [email protected], otherwise it won't be appealed. Draugnar already emailed Kestas who is looking into the matter. In the meantime he isn't silenced while he works it out with Kestas.

If anyone of you had bothered to follow the appeal process that's been in place longer then I've been on the site you would know that.

I will say though, that the link to robin thick's song with naked girls dancing to a song about the blurry lines between consensual sex and rape is obviously sexually explicit and covered under those new rules we posted. Just because we said we're taking a more relaxed stance doesn't mean we're ignoring glaring violations of the rules we do have.

Nice video though, tasteful, artistic ..... you can't get too puritanical about it if the Germans can have it on their TV unedited then why can't the people in the land of the free see it?

My two cents...

It seems to me that the current mods are being heavy-handed. It stems from, I think, their understanding of what their role is. TMOW summed it up as.."The mods have a limited mission which is trying to keep the site enjoyable for all, and cheater-free."

I think we can all agree that keeping the site cheater free is admirable. But why are you wasting so much time "trying to keep the site enjoyable for all" when clearly you don't give a tinker's cuss about how enjoyable the site is for blankflag, YJ, Draugnar and others. Nor should you. But nor should you be overly concerned about the sensitivities of me or Lando or NigeeBaby (the sensitive soul). You have given us all tools to mute people, we are all intelligent enough to ignore people and up until recently we all got on rather well self-modding the forum.

My advice would be to concentrate on the important stuff, if someone makes deaths threats or encourages suicide or threatens rape or speaks about an on-going game, then silence or ban them without engaging in a forum debate about it. I sometimes feel the defending of your positions in a forum is just one big ego-fest.

Generally the mods do a good job, without them the site wouldn't function. But they should reflect our wishes as well as Kestas'. Whilst the site wouldn't run without mods it sure as hell wouldn't run without its members.

Shall I copy/paste the email text here that says, quite clearly, that my silence was for not responding to an email from you all?

You mods can't even make up your minds *why* you silence people. You just do ti cause you want to as we pissed you off then justify it later with lame ass excuses that don't line up.

Robin Thicke's video only has them *topless*. The song is a great song. And since when did the *subject matter* of a post become the realm of thought police. I could have posted the lyrics right here and it wouldn't have violated the rules, now would it? We were told only in the OP was explicit material not allowed.

But I don't care. This is my last forum post. The truth of the WebDip Elite is out there. Blankflag was right. He just had the wrong organization.

@ Draugnar: "You mods can't even make up your minds *why* you silence people."

jmo did not state that you had been silenced for breaking the rule on sexual explicit links; he implied that this would *also* have been grounds to silence you, and stated his case for why this ruling *could* be applied.

I would say that "trying to keep the site enjoyable for ALL [emphasis mine]" would be the pejorative here. The majority of the world has a rating system, and links to porn or adult content under this system would (at least) be rated to 18+ years old. Given that there are members who are under the age of legally accessing sexually explicit material, then I think that the moderators are making the correct decision in blocking - to the best of their ability - links that connect to material that is inappropriate for this age bracket.

Now, you can argue that teenagers have easy access to porn anyway - and we all know how easy it is to access - but for a morally responsible website then links to such things should be banned as a matter of course. It might be analogous to an iceberg in the tropics given the profusion of smut on the net, but so is playing boardgames in a world of instant first-person shooters.

In my humble opinion this is a storm in a teacup. Grow up, act your age and be happy that you are contributing to a website that asks nothing from you except that you adhere to a few, VERY LIBERAL, set of rules.

Like I said in my email to you Draug, you were told incorrectly that you were silenced for ignoring a mod email. We don't silence people for that, you were silenced for posting two videos on a thread where mods had already made warnings that additional sexual links would be silenced. It's that simple, and you admitted you knew it was inappropriate.

"And there was nothing pornographic at all in the first two links (Denis Leary's I'm an Asshole and Puddle of Mudd's SheHates Me) unless you count foul language as pornographic. The third link was to Robin Thicke's unrated version of Blurred Lines that required you to sign in to Youtube with an unrestricted account to watch it."

I'm sorry the moderators who talked to you later didn't completely understand the situation completely, and that's something we'll work out with the team, part of growing pains with adding 3 new people to the team.
eh, sorta catchy

i find the cheap michael jackson knockoff "whoo" playing throughout the whole song annoying but i digress

shouldn't be silenceable imo.

Celticfox (100 D(B))

Draug just use common sense. If you need to be a certain age to view a video on youtube don't post it. Or if you know it's going to have a certain shock factor. That wasn't a rule set into place by Jmo or the mods that's Kestas's rule.

Also, I believe since MTV is on cable it's fine for them to show whatever they want, but I could be wrong on there.
Draugnar (0 DX)
05 Nov 13 UTC
You would be wrong because they are basic cable and meet the same requirements as network TV.
krellin (80 DX)
05 Nov 13 UTC
Common sense....well, let's see, the government has pretty much allowed porn videos to be freely allowed on the internet without age verification.....porn is ubiquitous. So common sense dictates that our society really doesn't have that much of an issue with porn. Oh sure, people bluster and blow and say how horrible it is...and then they close their doors...

So I guess as long as we are posting to a link that is outside of age verification we are OK....

...OK, seriosuly, who's common sense morality are we supposed to abide by? Because as far as I can tell, this group spans pretty much every political and religious ideology, from nutjobs that elevate animals to equal or above man, to those that think animals are purely for the using. There are those they say get the fuck out of my bedroom, anything I do with anyone is OK by me, and those that want to regular sex.

So seriously, this idiotic notion of "common sense" is absurd...there is no *common* sense with this diverse a crowd. Hell...we might even have a cannibal amongst us for all we know...
Celticfox (100 D(B))
05 Nov 13 UTC
Go by Kestas's level of common sense. Nothing explicit or meant to shock. Most things that are age verified would fall under that.
krellin (80 DX)
05 Nov 13 UTC
I dont' know ketas, have never seen a ketas post on this topic. My understanding of ketas is that he has always wanted this to be a free speaking environment that did *not* abide by social standards that would inhibit free exchange of topics, even when some might find them disturbing.

All this recent change seems a contradiction of kestas as I have been led to understand his objective.

I'm honestly not arguing for porn links - don't get me wrong - but "common sense" is a very undefinable thing...

We should have a triple secret probationary silence on the site.
While the subject is light hearted Animal House sounding, I mean it when I say it. If the system had a way to silence forum posters posts without indicating to them they were silenced (kind of a universal mute) then people like blankflag could be secretly silenced and the good boys and girls of the forum wouldn't have to put up with him trying to come back in under a different name.
