The Around the World Map Gunboat Tournament:

Changes from page 1 are marked by asterisks. By signing up, you agree to the following:
- 17 concurrent games, one game as each nation
- 50 hour phases
- WTA
- anon
- no press
- ready up preferred (not required, holidays are approaching)
- only prearranged pauses (please use saved orders when possible to avoid pauses)
- 5 bets for a total of 85 buy-in

NMR policy: if an NMR occurs *to a >4 center nation*, the mods will be notified to pause any affected games while they attempt to contact the player. If human error, the player will be allowed to return. If instead the player is leaving the site (as Tasnica pointed out), then the game(s) will remain paused while we find a replacement.

Point allocations:
*Since world maps and a tournament of this sort are less well explored than the standard map, there will be three modes of scoring at the end, though the true winner is whoever has the most fun, and as Yonni pointed out, if this is successful, I'm probably the real winner here ;)

Anyway, onto the methods of scoring:
1) PPSC - this is /not/ how the d will be allocated, only the points. Solos, draws, doesn't matter, just how big you are at the end of all 17 games.

2) Townsend (* is my addition):
Solo = +100
2 Way draw = +48 each
3 Way draw = +31 each
4 Way draw = +22 each
5 Way draw = +17 each
6 Way draw = +13 each
7 Way draw = +7 each
*8 way draw = +3 each
*9 way draw = +2 each
*10 way draw = +1 each

3) Continental control (changed from page 1) -
Points will be given out based on continent(s) controlled.
Asia: +25
Africa: +20
N. America: +15
S. America: +10
Europe: +10
Antarctica: +5
Australia: +5
A solo will receive an additional +25

Players who need points, how long do you need to gain them? A week? Two weeks?

Why don't leave the games as a PPSC? I didn't like the Continental control...

Townsend is also good if you want.

The way I read it is that the continental control is only for bonus points for the final tally.

I would prefer PPSC as well...

If you find someone else and I can't get points, feel free to replace me.

Two comments:

1. I also feel that PPSC would be the best way of distributing diplopoints. I almost always prefer PPSC for world games in general.

2. How are the continents defined? Are we excluding islands? Including all islands? Including only some islands? For example, are the Philippines part of Asia? Is New Zealand part of Australia? Are islands fair game? What about the division between Asia and Europe?

Okay, I apparently wasn't clear on how points will be allocated. There are three metrics that will be employed. Each is /completely/ independent of the other two. If someone ever wanted to duplicate this tournament in the future, it would be nice to offer some amount of research into the fairest or most interesting measure of play (with the real winner being whoever had the most fun).

Again, all three metrics are /completely/ independent from the other two. It's experimental to see which functions best. The continental control is extremely experimental, but my hope is that it would discourage world-weary draws (admittedly, it probably won't).

I will change the d allocation from WTA to PPSC, per the request of Masf, Elodin, and Tasnica. Any objections?

no loans? maybe the bet can be changed to 1 for this tournament? or we can play it in parts like 10 games now and 7 more latter.

why is the minimum bet size 5?in vdip you can bet 1.

I'd be fin with breaking it into 2-3 groups of games. Nine now, eight later, or 6 now, 6 later, and 5 after that..

Well I should have 85 after that game I linked to draws, which could be any moment now. Fine with staggering the games too, but at least half of them should start in the first go.

I don't think we need a different password for each game. Just 1 for all of them...

well yeah thats what i meant. also this is gonna sound stupid i think, but would people be interested in a fb group for this event? might make it easier to contact folks and stuff in cases of nmr etc....also would be fun for smack talking (like a fantasy football type of group anonymous accounts and stuff with team names)

I don't think loans are allowed anymore, although I'm fine with loans.

I'd rather have all 17 in one go since the chance of keeping everyone around for a second (or third) round is fairly low.

Similar to Yonni - I'm happy if you have someone to replace me and I can't get the points together. If they started 50% at a time I'm ahppy to do it

I don't have any points rolling in soon so it'd probably be best to get someone else sign up.

just clarifying. i haven't been on in a while and haven't read the rules in even longer

in theory it is not so kosher,but...
the metagaming rules say: "You can't make alliances for reasons outside a game, such as because you are friends, relatives or in return for a favor in another game."
donor game where 6 lose and one win is not an alliance,so it's legal.
this not multying because no one is using second accounts.
no one is going to complain about it,so it's not giving the mods unnecessary work.
rule 9 says :"use common sense" this is what we are doing;)

I suggest that we keep signups open until a solution can be found to the points issue. Having some backup players certainly wouldn't hurt, at least.

Some players don't have the points to join. If I can lend some points, I will, but I expect them back >_>
