On slashdot and sourceforge they have a little donation mark that appears next to usernames, maybe that would be a way to flag donors without bothering others

That would be cool. No amounts needed. Just a little icon that says "I gave" kind of like the stickers that blood donors get.

Then we can gang up on on the non-donors :-)

That would be metagaming. It's seriously frowned upon. Hard to prove, but still a dickish thing to do.

We could also color code the donor "mark", so that if you have given in the current year (or in the past 12 months?) your "mark" is in color and if it's been over a year it turns grey, or something like that.

I thought last time donor marks came up they were frowned upon?

We also had a lot fewer donors at that time mapleleaf. ;-P Really I have to give credit to this whole endeavor, to an extent, because webDip has got 2-3 dozen donors and probably 1-2 dozen have been as a result of this thread and its derailed predecessor

Personally I donate to sites I enjoy as well, and it's good to know that it's not absorbed into a big black hole but that your donation was actually significant in some way, and some token does give that impression.
webDip isn't hurting for donations and we'll be here (and hopefully improving) come what may, but it's just a decent, unsolicited gesture that I'd be glad to acknowledge (in a way that doesn't annoy others)

A flag woudl be cool, especially if it linked to the donations page with a short explaination.

Totally a status symbol, but otherwise meaningless, however it would have people going, "What's that thing?" and clicking on it... perhaps a personalized 16x16 icon... with blackjack and hookers, actually screw the icon....
