It is that time again - to see how the citizens of webDip would run a country. Let's plan on starting after the Mafia game, but we can get our ducks in a row now. We will need a volunteer(s) to help run the show. This could take some amount of knowledge and dedication, as well as an unbiased nature. Please respond if you are interested in helping or participating.

Okay so thoughts on this game.
1) 5 minimum posts days 1 is very interesting. This will be a chatty, potentially record breaking game indeed, and since the game will already be long I will do my best to limit my posting and help town filter the excess baggage (The solution to pollution is infinite dilution). I favor a conversational style of game which infuriates some people so I will start the ball rolling here with questions for 3 entirely randomly predetermined people.

A) @Vash what do you think about a vanilla townie fake claiming vig if they end up on the gallows D1 at or around deadline. Is there any advantage to fake claiming vig?
B) @Captainmeme do you feel that a minimum of 5 posts on Day 1 is going to be difficult? I ask because you are typically one of the more benign day 1 players, 5 posts day 1 is substantial in some regards yes?
C) Vecna how do rabbits taste?

2) Ideal strategy might be to go uber defense with our PR’s. If we combine the abilities of Peach giving out a Magic Mushroom, with the Doctor covering likely PR potentials, we will have 2 people protected from Nightkills on future endevours. I would argue that the Vig should also hold his/her shot on N1 as well as a way to possibly stave off some excess town hemorrhaging, and save bullets for later in the game if things go horrible for us like last game. Peach should probably not be giving out guns since you never know if you are giving them to scummies.

3.) At least 10 of us are concerned citizens so here is what I think we should do. Divide and conquer our skills. Some of us should barely observe the minimum posting limits. Others of us should build cases attack everyone verbally and make it impossible for mafia to fathom who the PR’s are. And finally a few of us should drop a breadcrumb here or there that we might be a PR or ARE WE?. Our goal is that as VT’s we aren’t all carbon footprints of each other. Last game the Town PR’s stood out as the only ones who were failing to make fake breadcrumbs. We should be more careful about how many of us fake claim and how we accuse others. As a VT it’s important to not shout out to everyone you are a VT at the top of your longs. Most town PR’s don’t tend to do that sort of thing, and only townies trying to gain cred usually bother to behave that way as well. I may just be Flying off the handle here a bit with strategy but, hey there’s no Balki this game so someone has to be the voice of reason via long winded sermons. Prove you are town, don’t just scream you are town.
4.) Mafia will try hardest to protect Bowser and their Strongman. This means that the most likely candidate for Mafia to Bus will be one of their ghosts, or their Vanilla Maf character. For example, if day one; 2 Mafioso’s bandwagon and bus their own team, that candidate up for lynch could end up being a prime scan for a cop which in turn would trigger the use of a ghost power D1. We need to be very cautious with using Cop powers in this situation. I would suggest not scanning either of the top wagons D1 and instead scanning any candidate who votes for someone without just cause meaning watch out for fickle voters. If you witness anyone voting and joining a wagon without giving a valid reason that person should be questioned and ought to be a prime target for our Vig, not our cop. I won’t tell people what to do, but in looking at this setup the mafia strategy here is simple, Protect Strongman and Ringleader as those two have the most dangerous combo for town to deal with later in the game. Look out for players playing too loose, and too reckless as it may be a planted maf sacrifice to cover their PR. Also watch out for ANYONE who defends someone without a strong reason as it may very well be a sign that mafia is trying to jump in to protect each other.

5) Another scum tactic is for the baddies to have a guy talking, and as soon as someone gets a bit too suspicious, another maf member shows up and changes the subject. This is a form of indirectly confusing town, and taking the heat off a friend at the same time. We should keep our eyes out for this style of behavior and put a stop to it. Nobody should be cross posting and changing the subject at any time if there is a valid accusation on the table. This is more my attempt to instill some order to a 22 player setup that involves a lot of moving parts and in general chaotic levels of discordant thought processes.
Example A) HR has been accused by brainbomb in this game, shortly after this post, for the next several pages HR fails to respond, and someone defends him against me before he has a chance to respond at all, someone else votes for brainbomb we can actually read this as an omgus to protect HR so he doesn’t have to do anything at all. This is an (Potentially) example of a Mafia member intervening on behalf of a teammate to stem the tide of accusation. So in that circumstance by the time HR reads my accusation, and sees my vote, someone has already covered for him and he does not have to actually answer the question. (This explains the y2k situation possibly)

Example B) Jamiet is questioned by ghug, Jamiet esponds but gives an uneven answer. All the new players chime in and asks questions about important stuff, no silly lollypops. Ghug gets distracted, and any chance at a momentum of conversation on jamiet is lost as a result. When krellin shifts the topics to being about OMGUS, the pro’s the con’s.
These are things we want to watch for. This is scum tactics 101, (divert, distract, confuse, obfuscate) in no particular order the job of Mafia is to find a suitable set of candidates they want to buddy for late game and use them against each other to an easy win.

Example C) yoyo posts a vote tracker, someone says it’s a scummy thing to post a vote tracker, anchor and then leave. But then another player shows up and completely dominates the page with some giant distraction heavy case full of bad logic. The topic and all focus is taken off of the anchor poster and instead of a solid scum read, everyone is wasting time reading the lengthy case. These scenarios happen often; I just want people to be aware of what this means. Typically, the lengthy case is a townie accidentally taking the heat off of an actual scummy candidate.

6.) It’s important to play this game with respect, we don’t have to get along, and certainly don’t have to be buddies, but play the game fairly. Put aside bias and personal grudges and let the game breathe. This is a natural and fun game, if things go right you may even end up lynching a friend of yours in the game and nobody will be upset about that. That being said: If I annoy you, feel free to kill me, this game is objective so if I become a nuisance you can vote me off the island as you deem appropriate. Good luck have fun and keep avoiding those Piranha Plants.

@brainbomb: "Another scum tactic is for the baddies to have a guy talking, and as soon as someone gets a bit too suspicious, another maf member shows up and changes the subject."

Maybe kinda like what you just did immediately after I said Chaqa was scummy?

Well well, brainbomb rolled scum two games in a row.

Well it appears I missed your substantial post Vash. Theres a few things I wanna correct about it as well.

"Anyway, it seems that as always, the beginning of Day 1 is a bit chaotic. We have bb and Jamiet continuing their little feud, a bunch of joke votes for HR on page 1 (literally I don't think we've ever caught scum using page 1 in any capacity so whatever) and krellin actually being coherent and useful (I still disagree with him, but it seems to be a step in the right direction, even if it's just my perception of change and the content being mostly the same). Anyway, not much to gleen from this, yet. Anyway, what shall we talk about now? PR strategy?"

Well first of all, Jamiet is alllowed to ask me questions, suspect me, vote for me, and call me a dipshit if he wants too. Jamiet and I dont have a fued, we are mortal enemies there is a difference. For the purpose of now and for however long I am blessed to be alive in the game with him we are participants in a game and could very well both be town. I dont scumread Jamiet, and I am pledging to keep personal feelings out of my interactions with him and to keep the game focused on the issues. Your post smells of preparatory bullshit as well, but not to be helpful. You dismiss the appearance of a 3 person HR wagon on PAGE 1 as being meaningless. When has there been a wagon of 3 people on anyone in any game in recent memory?

Additionally you justify a controversial new policy of intentionally lynching players you dont like for no other reason than that you deem them unreliable to town.

Lets go ahead and dissect that thought process.

So if you think 2 wagons up for lynching are both lousy worthless players, you wont care which you vote for? is that a fair assessment?
brainbomb (290 D)
21 Mar 16 UTC
@OB how would you describe Chaqa's day 1 behavior last game?
@bb: No, I don't think that is a particularly good idea. There are good times to fake claim but they are rare. All this does is confuse people and deligitimize the good time for town to fake claim. I understand the logic you gave for this, but really I don't think it would draw a sniper shot because:
1. The sniper has only 1 shot I believe, so they will save it for a high priority town PR, like the cop (as the vig can just as easily kill town)
2. They wouldn't waste a shot on someone who is likely to die
3. They won't believe the fake claim now that it has been brought up
captainmeme (1723 DMod)

I can manage 5 posts in a day phase. I usually do that anyway, they're just all crammed up towards the end of the phase.

Anyhow,

Good day to you all! Great residents of Mushroom Kingdom, we face a threat greater than any we have faced before. The evil tyrant Bowser has finally managed to figure out that the way to infiltrate our Constitutional Monarchy is not to kidnap the figurehead, but to run for election and take us over through our democratic system. We cannot allow this to succeed! A true Democracy shouldn't elect people based on what the majority vote for, it should elect people based upon what the good guys want!

I can't really see much to comment on at this stage. I don't think the early HR wagon means much, since it's so early and with so little reasoning that it most likely won't last much time at all. In fact, I'm townreading y2k in particular because what he did (jumping on third) really called attention to himself and I don't think he would do this as mafia.

I also believe Chaqa's VT claim. I don't think a player attempting to pretend to be a VT would notice the 'Concerned Citizen' part of the role PM - skimming over the roles it really doesn't stand out, but when you read the individual PM it does.

Anyhow, I'ma going to sleep now. Just finished a fair few hours of defending myself against Goldfinger's Huns in Civ - that really takes it out of you :)

@ND the rule of three is backed up by proof of one game, but the Theory is solid. I don't plan on relying on it too heavily because the mafia might know about it this game, but it will be on my mind.
If anyone has any vote trackers from previous games they would be willing to let me look at, I would love to see them.

I don't like the timing of this game start. I have other things I want to do tonight. So, instead of making up shit to argue about I'm going to just say what I've felt like seemed interesting, and then bug out for a bit.

y2k DID act funny at the start, and his reaction seemed very similar to a previous time when he was scum and nervous at the very start of the game. As I recall, he then lurked for much of the day. y2k Scum notch +1.

OB seems to be hunting fairly normally, and aggressively pursuing leads. Town notch +1.

But I think we should all just ##VOTE captainmeme. No matter what his role, he has proven to be a compulsive lurker who doesn't help the town until late game when he's innocent, and when he's scum, his buddies always help steer pressure away onto other lurkers. So let's kill meme first unless he proves to be a full participator this time around.
@bb: There's always a comparative, it's just a matter of details, so no it's not like I wouldn't care even if it is but a small difference, and I still preference lynching scum reads over people I find bad for town (though a consensus is probably better).

And yes, I did prepare that post before hand (I actually started it during the best Town Strategy thread, but it got pushed to the wayside), and I don't really expect anyone to rule either way on whether or not it means I'm town, as with all prepped out posts.
ND (879 D)

@Redeer1: You can look at page 1 and in the game post there is a section that gives a link to all of the former games. Vote trackers are usually included in the former god qt's of those games (I think?), but you will have to search for it.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
21 Mar 16 UTC
@bb You said this: "When has there been a wagon of 3 people on anyone in any game in recent memory?"

I feel like this happens quite frequently, and your desire to make it seem otherwise is questionable. Early D1 votes are very fluid, and you know this, even joking with your vote for everyone post. Why are you making a bigger deal of y2k's vote than it warrants? brainbomb scum notch +1.

@brainbomb - I'm not playing your little game of ask the accuser a million questions. I think Chaqa overstated his opening post about being VT. I don't think captainmeme's statement about its credibility holds any water whatsoever, the verbiage Chaqa used is all over the place in the game opening. A VT with a "fuck it, I'm going to lurk" attitude would just claim "VT" and be done with it, rather than type out the role PM as captainmeme implies. Besides, captainmeme knows full well that the role PMs are posted and available for anyone to read.
brainbomb (290 D)
21 Mar 16 UTC
Fair enough, I have my own observations I have noted about Chaqa in past games and when he talks more I might be able to discern if there is indeed more evidence. I know one secret about Chaqa's scum habits and his habits as a 3rd party player that I unearthed in my research. If I note the pattern, I will join you.
However so far he is just playing to his usual worthless day 1 textbook of say something lame, and then he fucks off for the better part of half the phase.
brainbomb (290 D)
21 Mar 16 UTC
that was @OB_GYN_Kenobi by the way.
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
21 Mar 16 UTC
We have had wagons of 3 form within the first couple pages/hours, especially when we've had most of the people online at game start.

You'll also note that none of the votes in this wagon were given any kind of weight even by the people voting, yourself included. It's misrepresentational to give them some sort of mystical importance.

And I can use whatever kind of notches I want to use. I honestly liked the idea, but I'm keeping track of all of my notches in my notes document, so unlike krellin, I will not only have an easily seachable term for my quotes of reasons I think people are scum, but I will have a master list that I can bring up on call, or at every EoN.
OB_Gyn_Kenobi (888 D)
21 Mar 16 UTC
Brainbomb: "However so far he is just playing to his usual worthless day 1 textbook of say something lame, and then he fucks off for the better part of half the phase"

That's just it, it wasn't just something lame. It was inordinately specific. Yeah, I acknowledge it's a scum read based on his first and thus far lone post in the game. Gotta love D1!
WardenDresden (239 D(B))
21 Mar 16 UTC
Now, I'm only going to call out notches when I find a perticular bit of behavior or a particular post scummy. I am making other notches/notes as I go in order to inform my play/reads, because without some sort of system, I know for a fact that I would be unable to keep track of this many players. I'm just trying to be more informed about everyone, and say what you will, notching people one way or another will help me with that.

I really dislike all of brain's advice to VTs. He says PRs were caught because all of the other townies tried to look like PRs last game and then tells us to do the same thing this game. Townies should be straightforward and not obfuscating. Nobody should lurk or post way too much drivel or attempt to confuse the mafia. That just confuses the town more.

DemonRHK (100 D(B))

Good bit of activity, but still like nearly 10 people that haven't posted at all.

I am really against the idea of being straightforward. That is just asking for us to get picked off. I think we need to keep the dialogue flowing, but still need to keep looking into things ourselves. Then once evidence is brought to light the scum won't have had a time to prep a counter to it.

I completely agree that OMGUS isn't the be all end all. Skiing OMGUS'd me last game and did up being scum, but that's a limited example. I think it's the posts (or lack thereof) after a OMGUS that get ignored and shouldn't.

I'm gonna be really sad if krellin really sits back day 1, then all we have is bb spamming up to keep us talking.

Anyway, ghug is seeming a bit scummy. Meme less so but I don't like his first post trying to dismiss two of the main convo points at the time (y2k and Chaqa). And redeer seems a little too gung-ho about finding proof on his rule of three (and less worried about the current game).

bb seems ok, but I would have said that last game too. Teacon seems lost. Vash's copypasta response makes some good points but as townies we should never accept death willingly, try to the end to get the scum. Giving up is what sunk me in XVII and I won't do that again. OB's ok so far, but WD all up in lynching the lurker already, I'm not sure that's right. At least meme posted something.

Just some thoughts. I need to look into people more (like once they ACTUALLY POST)

Demon, I'm suggesting that townies don't do obfuscatory bullshit with the intention of confusing the mafia, because it confuses town just as much and town is the side that needs to figure things out.
brainbomb (290 D)
21 Mar 16 UTC
@ghug I think you are lying and here is why.

A) Page 1 you join an HR wagon for the same reason as me. You later refer to it as a reaction test and state it garnered a result that Jamiet is scum. Well thats horse shit. You just got done failing to even read my post and misinterpret every aspect of it intentionally.

B) You recuse yourself and y2k in the process by calling it a joke vote but in the same stroke go after the only person confused by it.

C) You mention how town has no need for obfuscations and trickery and decry its usage. And yet agree with fake joke voting as a litmus test for scumreads.

D) You suspect Vash every game but fail to even acknowledge his very controversial strategy idea to vote for useless townies if there are no viable scum reads.

E) I think what is happening here is you drew a scum role finally and you are hoping to mimic your shitty town play from last game by creating a confusing catch - 22 that town should do joke voting but should not obfuscate ; when in reality those two things are 1 in the same and you have happily done so when it was a viable way to defend y2k and gain town cred.
brainbomb (290 D)
21 Mar 16 UTC
Point E is not implying you voted for HR to defend y2k or anyone in particular. I am trying to state for the record that you calling it a jokevote is in fact NOT the reason why you voted HR at all. You voting Jamiet is in fact likely you diverting, obfuscating, and deliberately misleading town to protect one of the two people involved in that situation, either HR, yourself, or y2k (or best case scenario in my book, is your all fucking scum).

Anyways I wrote this and reread and noticed that it sounds like I am implying you voted HR to cover y2k's ass which is an absurd notion since y2k voted after you. just to clarify that is not what I am trying to say.

Userid changed
Hello team,
My userid just changed. It used to be ksako8, now it is jmo76093.
All my games are still available, but I find it a bit weird. Does any of the GM's know what happened?
