Okay so thoughts on this game.
1) 5 minimum posts days 1 is very interesting. This will be a chatty, potentially record breaking game indeed, and since the game will already be long I will do my best to limit my posting and help town filter the excess baggage (The solution to pollution is infinite dilution). I favor a conversational style of game which infuriates some people so I will start the ball rolling here with questions for 3 entirely randomly predetermined people.
A) @Vash what do you think about a vanilla townie fake claiming vig if they end up on the gallows D1 at or around deadline. Is there any advantage to fake claiming vig?
B) @Captainmeme do you feel that a minimum of 5 posts on Day 1 is going to be difficult? I ask because you are typically one of the more benign day 1 players, 5 posts day 1 is substantial in some regards yes?
C) Vecna how do rabbits taste?
2) Ideal strategy might be to go uber defense with our PR’s. If we combine the abilities of Peach giving out a Magic Mushroom, with the Doctor covering likely PR potentials, we will have 2 people protected from Nightkills on future endevours. I would argue that the Vig should also hold his/her shot on N1 as well as a way to possibly stave off some excess town hemorrhaging, and save bullets for later in the game if things go horrible for us like last game. Peach should probably not be giving out guns since you never know if you are giving them to scummies.
3.) At least 10 of us are concerned citizens so here is what I think we should do. Divide and conquer our skills. Some of us should barely observe the minimum posting limits. Others of us should build cases attack everyone verbally and make it impossible for mafia to fathom who the PR’s are. And finally a few of us should drop a breadcrumb here or there that we might be a PR or ARE WE?. Our goal is that as VT’s we aren’t all carbon footprints of each other. Last game the Town PR’s stood out as the only ones who were failing to make fake breadcrumbs. We should be more careful about how many of us fake claim and how we accuse others. As a VT it’s important to not shout out to everyone you are a VT at the top of your longs. Most town PR’s don’t tend to do that sort of thing, and only townies trying to gain cred usually bother to behave that way as well. I may just be Flying off the handle here a bit with strategy but, hey there’s no Balki this game so someone has to be the voice of reason via long winded sermons. Prove you are town, don’t just scream you are town.
4.) Mafia will try hardest to protect Bowser and their Strongman. This means that the most likely candidate for Mafia to Bus will be one of their ghosts, or their Vanilla Maf character. For example, if day one; 2 Mafioso’s bandwagon and bus their own team, that candidate up for lynch could end up being a prime scan for a cop which in turn would trigger the use of a ghost power D1. We need to be very cautious with using Cop powers in this situation. I would suggest not scanning either of the top wagons D1 and instead scanning any candidate who votes for someone without just cause meaning watch out for fickle voters. If you witness anyone voting and joining a wagon without giving a valid reason that person should be questioned and ought to be a prime target for our Vig, not our cop. I won’t tell people what to do, but in looking at this setup the mafia strategy here is simple, Protect Strongman and Ringleader as those two have the most dangerous combo for town to deal with later in the game. Look out for players playing too loose, and too reckless as it may be a planted maf sacrifice to cover their PR. Also watch out for ANYONE who defends someone without a strong reason as it may very well be a sign that mafia is trying to jump in to protect each other.
5) Another scum tactic is for the baddies to have a guy talking, and as soon as someone gets a bit too suspicious, another maf member shows up and changes the subject. This is a form of indirectly confusing town, and taking the heat off a friend at the same time. We should keep our eyes out for this style of behavior and put a stop to it. Nobody should be cross posting and changing the subject at any time if there is a valid accusation on the table. This is more my attempt to instill some order to a 22 player setup that involves a lot of moving parts and in general chaotic levels of discordant thought processes.
Example A) HR has been accused by brainbomb in this game, shortly after this post, for the next several pages HR fails to respond, and someone defends him against me before he has a chance to respond at all, someone else votes for brainbomb we can actually read this as an omgus to protect HR so he doesn’t have to do anything at all. This is an (Potentially) example of a Mafia member intervening on behalf of a teammate to stem the tide of accusation. So in that circumstance by the time HR reads my accusation, and sees my vote, someone has already covered for him and he does not have to actually answer the question. (This explains the y2k situation possibly)
Example B) Jamiet is questioned by ghug, Jamiet esponds but gives an uneven answer. All the new players chime in and asks questions about important stuff, no silly lollypops. Ghug gets distracted, and any chance at a momentum of conversation on jamiet is lost as a result. When krellin shifts the topics to being about OMGUS, the pro’s the con’s.
These are things we want to watch for. This is scum tactics 101, (divert, distract, confuse, obfuscate) in no particular order the job of Mafia is to find a suitable set of candidates they want to buddy for late game and use them against each other to an easy win.
Example C) yoyo posts a vote tracker, someone says it’s a scummy thing to post a vote tracker, anchor and then leave. But then another player shows up and completely dominates the page with some giant distraction heavy case full of bad logic. The topic and all focus is taken off of the anchor poster and instead of a solid scum read, everyone is wasting time reading the lengthy case. These scenarios happen often; I just want people to be aware of what this means. Typically, the lengthy case is a townie accidentally taking the heat off of an actual scummy candidate.
6.) It’s important to play this game with respect, we don’t have to get along, and certainly don’t have to be buddies, but play the game fairly. Put aside bias and personal grudges and let the game breathe. This is a natural and fun game, if things go right you may even end up lynching a friend of yours in the game and nobody will be upset about that. That being said: If I annoy you, feel free to kill me, this game is objective so if I become a nuisance you can vote me off the island as you deem appropriate. Good luck have fun and keep avoiding those Piranha Plants.
