@JECE: True, true, I think most people do mean well. My point was to refute Mendax's implication that most right-wing people are racist. The average American conservative believes in small government, except in cases of Christian morality and foreign policy. They believe in tradition, which to some includes racism, but overall I think most conservatives are not racist outside of minor subconscious racism that all of us have, but that can be overpowered by our conscious sense of reason.
I disagree with conservatism because I don't think that morality should be legislated. I think that things that explicitly harm other people, such as acts of violence or stealing, should be illegal. Most everything else should be completely legal--this includes marijuana, gay marriage, *responsible* gun ownership, alcohol, pornography, swear words, "hate speech", and whatever other stuff the right or the left have said we should put bans on.
Did that become a rant? Oh well. It's getting late and I'm in a soapbox-y mood.
