A Call for Blind Diplomacy Voting (only see your own votes)
Diplomacy should be carried out through your moves, and if press is allowed, through your press, but not through voting signals. Some conspiracy theorists believe their are hidden meanings in unusual votes -- in my experience it is b/c of us cell phone players with fat fingers... Gunboat should not have this communication tool, and in press you can reveal or lie about your votes all you like...

An actual philosophy variant
Choose a philosophical school of thought. If the philosopher fundamentally changed during his writing career, you must also choose which text(s) you will be following. Then, you must hold to that philosophy in all discussions and movements. Why not PP, 5 D, 50hr phases, WTA, orders must be announced. If someone can demonstrate how a proposed action goes against your philosophy, you may not take that action and must do something else. Critiques?

@Krellin, trust me, too see you two actually debate I would find neutral people. There are 2 or 3 members I know would be completely logical in any debate, and I I would go find people at my company, university, flag them down off the roads, whatever, to make this happen.

And you know I wouldn't be bias in my choices, if I was that desperate to silence either of you I could ;) (this is a joke, no mod abuse outrage posts please)

@Jmo They should be forum members. Let's keep this in the community so no one can bitch about there being some favors. Also, topics there'd be 3. What would the most interesting topics for those 2 to debate be?

No, we'd have to go back through both their posts, figure out something they both feel strongly about, say the death penalty or something they have opposing views on, and then make them argue the opposite side they agree with.

@YJ - First, insulting Nigee is so easy... and.difficult. Easy because he is such a moron. Hard because his moronic brain sometimes can comprehend the insult. But why do you stand up for Nigee? Is he, as krellin has asserted, your bitch? Or maybe you are his bitch... Either way my insults won't stop.

One more question... Was your taunt supposed to be an insult? You see I quoted Shakespeare. So it should have had a certain intellectual ring. Which means you either think krellin has a certain intellectual ring to his posts or you are showing a lack of intellect in not recognizing that ever so popular quote and, in so doing, prove krellin right.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
28 Mar 13 UTC
@draug: I just think he's funny.

As to the latter, I must just have a terrible lack of intellect :P You can always judge how smart somebody is by how many Shakespeare quotes they recognize. I know; it's in the bible. I'm sure my overwhelming lack of cognitive ability has already been amply demonstrated to in the many discussions you and I have had.

Either that or it was just the fact that, "words... signifying nothing" is very close to something he had PM'd me earlier that day.

You're so cute when you stand up for your friend. Got nudie pics?

"Wait, so krellin is declining the challenge?"

No...apparently, Thucy, you and all of YJ's mentally deficient coherts have reading comprehension problems. I have not refused to debate YJ in a simple three debates. I have opened to him the opportunity to debate me damned near *daily* in each and every thread we post in.

You see, YJ, coward and intellectaul inferior that he is, has a rather nasty habit of *avoiding* debate when I comment on an OP. Oh...he's makes himself known on the forum. He produces many "Hey Krellin" threads, and he comes within threads and tries to stir up his little sheep against me...but it is so rare for him to comment either on the OP, or my comments on the OP. So this, "Let's have a debate" nonsense is rather ludicrous on the face of it, since the coward over and over and over again has denied his public opportunity to debate me.

His latest tirade - this thread - is the result him once again being smacked down by me yesterday, when he attempted to derail a thread, got insulted by not just me, but others as well, and then the discussion continued on without him.

He's pathetic on the face of it.

If he wants an open debate, it is here, and it occurs almost daily, as we are both active members of the community.

All the little cheerleaders here for said debate are rather ridiculous; you are cheering for something that you only ask for because you see us on these threads constantly. Therefore, you are either asking for something you have already seen - which is a waste of time (debate topic X...we've all seen there opinions on that!...Uh...therefore, why debate it again...) or you are asking for something unique, which would be for YJ to actually answer my discussion points, instead of throwing insults. If you are asking for something unique...for YJ to finally openly debate a topic on the threads, then I'm not certainly not going to give honor to someone who has demonstrate not a shred of honor in the past.

The debate continues. Daily. Here in these forums. You are all welcome to MAN UP and contribute - and please do encourage little YJ to actually express an opinion in the threads, instead of running off to hide, or create another "Hey krellin" thread. Please do encourage him to MAN UP...

It's all getting rather messy ......
krellin (80 DX)
28 Mar 13 UTC
Not at all messy - it's clear as day: We both continue to post on existing forum threads, but instead of his typical cowardly attacks and running off to create "hey krellin" threads, YJ will MAN UP and debate within existing threads and prove himself worthy of any intellectual consideration, rather than just being a bitch.
krellin (80 DX)

I made the mistake of opening this thread up and reading it while in class (my students are working on group projects today and tomorrow). I read far more of these forums than I post in, and I had to try to explain to a couple of students what I was laughing at--wholly inappropriate for school. Though I don't necessarily see eye-to-eye with the things I've seen krellin say (and it sounds like that might be a healthy opinion), I'll be damned if it's not entertaining to read. Even as a leftist pussy, it's still damned entertaining.

I remember once being confronted by a bully in junior high. He was very similar to YJ...full of bluster and bullshit, but very little character or content. He challenged me to a fight, much like little YJ did, and much like YJ, he said we needed to take it elsewhere, at another time...you know, the whole high noon behind the school when nobody was there sort of thing.

I told him no. I said if he really wanted to fight, we do it here, we do it now, and let everyone be witness. He backed down...he was a coward. He didn't want to public display, and he really was afraid of the fight and trying to win the victory without open confrontation.

Same with YJ. He doesn't want a public display here in these forums where all of you can bear witness...he wants to slink off to some blog. And now he's just absent....afraid to accept the public challenge to have our debates here in front of everyone.

YJ is just a typical low-browed bully...full of bluster and a blowhard...but not a whole lot of content...

And for the record, not all leftists are pussies. If you have a leftist belief and actually have a principled belief, and apply your principles across the board and are consistent in your argument, then I’ll respect you. It the leftist that won’t consistently apply their logic that are pussies. Such as “government should save lives….by taking away your guns” Apply consistent logic and you have “government should save live….by <add reduction in freedom and rights here>” Most wanna-be lefties won’t be consistent in their belief…and that’s why they’re pussies.

Server upgrade
Thanks for everyone's patience during the server upgrade, for some reason it took them three hours, so it took much longer than I expected. I've added time to all games, if anyone spots anything out of place let me know.
On the bright side once this has settled down the server should have more capacity..

How does one leave a game?
I have no intentions of leaving any games I'm in, but I invited a friend to join the site and he joined a bunch of games, then decided he just didn't understand the game. Rather than stick around and ruin things for everyone, I've convinced him to just leave but I don't see that option anywhere. Help?

Why does anyone play live gunboat games?
Don't get me wrong, they're fun enjoyable things to do, even though I'm not too good in them myself, but, NMRs and CDs are rampant, and you get opportunistic wankers that refuse to draw/cancel even though everyone else has their draw/cancel votes up and game ettiqute demands that they do so, so I ask, why does anyone play them?

Repeat Messages?
Did the new updates come with a feature for preventing posting the same messages you already did? I posted the link to the email the mods about unpausing games, but I ended up having to add something to the beginning of the post, to get around a message that told me to make repeat messages.
Doesn't matter that much, but it seems like it could be annoying at times

Can someone explain the draw of the Gunboat?
To me, the entire thrill of this game is in the formation of alliances and the negotiations between players. With that being said, I absolutely don't understand the draw of the Gunboat games--it takes out the best part. If I'm looking for pure strategy, I'll take games like Axis and Allies (despite the "luck factor" or even chess). What am I missing about Gunboat games?
