I love how either solution works for me. If the UK leaves the EU it will serve as a reminder of what a dreadful institute it has become. If they stay in the EU, they will simply keep reminding us of that from within. I *heart* UK.

@ YJ: "To the left!"

Not to turn this thread into a genuine debate, but just for the record, Obama is NOT left wing. He's right wing, just nowhere near as right wing as Romney.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
08 Nov 12 UTC
Almost all US Presidential elections are a contest between moderate right wing and extreme right wing.

definitely war
semck83 (229 D(B))
08 Nov 12 UTC
Jamiet, as has been pointed out in other threads, that's a tedious point that depends on the context. In the US Obama is left wing, just as in Canada, the 48th parallel is south. It is reasonable to use US nomenclature in a discussion of US politics. It is not as though "left" and "right" have objective meanings independent of some milieu anyway.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
08 Nov 12 UTC
what semck said.
But it's also a useful reminder of far out our politics really are to emphasize Mr. Obama's actual alignment as opposed to referring to him as some sort of leftist.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
08 Nov 12 UTC
*shrug* I dunno I'm an American. He seems appropriately liberal to me in that context. I mean it's all like a slider, right? If you're on the outside in a country where your parties are situated left of both of ours, then you can say that. Hilter would say both American parties are leftists.

It's all relative. There is no absolute center from which we can refer from.
Sicarius (673 D)
08 Nov 12 UTC
I thought Jill Stein was left wing. If Obama is the left she is Bernardine Dohrn

ulytau (541 D)

semck, I would take the political relativism at least somewhat seriously if it wasn't used to defend a party, whose main line on foreign policy is spreading American values across the whole world and on the domestic front, its social values are shoved on the citizens instead of giving them the freedom to behave as they wish. I.e., a party that is anything but relativist.

I wonder why the pinko communist America hating Democrats never backed any foreign socialist governments during the Cold War. Guess the leftists hate each other's guts more than they hate the US.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
08 Nov 12 UTC
dang uly... I don't think anybody's trying to downplay the right-shift of american politics. I just think we're saying when we say "left," this is what we mean. And no dirty foreigner is gonna tell us we're wrong :P
Tolstoy (1962 D)

What does "right wing" and "left wing" even mean any more?
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
08 Nov 12 UTC
*sigh*
Sicarius (673 D)
08 Nov 12 UTC
Its mostly just an absurd and abstract categorization to put broad political opinion into neat boxes fit for soundbytes. But in this country what I imagine most people think of the right as valuing tradition, nationalistic, pro-military, religious, pro life,. anti union, etc. and the left as more equality driven, anti war, environmentally conscious, for government assitance, I'm painting with real broad strokes here, and there are lots of exceptions but thats kindof the point isnt it? Breaking down over 300 million people into two groups? Laughable.
semck83 (229 D(B))
08 Nov 12 UTC
ulytau, yeah -- I wasn't defending any concept or anybody, much less political relativism or the Republican party. I was just defending the use of certain terms in conversation. It happens they're very reasonable ones in the context in which they were used.

Hi, my name is Vdip>Webdip. I am currently writing a symphony about the Congo, but my true hobby is to post threads that are self-referencing and for live games, go live live games go. My parents, TC and HC, do not approve of who I am because I try to change the world for the better and because I am liberal and educated (hence my 4.5 GPA and my symphony), but they love it when I drink unpretentious wine especially after I DDoS a new player on the site, who's bullshoi is he new. My friends and I like to get together on Fridays and have an org... organizational meet to play pacifist gunboat and to discuss the new pictures that PE has posted of us... taking shots while making threads about other threads including this one. Inevitably, one of us always gets so drunk that he would NMR or CD and post a cheating accusation about how gunboat is not real diplomacy.
If you have not realized it yet, I have been taking shots continuously due to my peak ghost-rating, and so if this does not make sense, feel free to create a google circle and throw epithets around.
I wish TC was here so I could see him cry.

I tried to bet him back in late 2010 that if Obama won he had to shut up for a whole month. He muted me rather than taking the bet.
Thucydides (864 D(B))

one of the few things that keeps me coming back to this site is its longevity. "back in 2010" is a great thing to be able to say as a small internet community.

i mean like... the fucking pitirre awards of 2007? unforgettable

Wtf guys the whole point of this series was to put major incentive on stopping the solo even if it meant you got eliminated, and we get a solo in game 1! Congrats skittles, you're "series" champion, lol.

question about multi's...
During my 2nd game on this site, I got accused of being a multi account abuser. I'm not complaining, and certainly not pointing a finger. My question is this - are multi's a big problem on here? what's done about it? and more importantly to me, how do I defend myself from this? Or is that even necessary? I'm looking forward to stabbing and being stabbed by many of you... don't want to get off to a bad start already!!!

5 Minute Live Anonymous Game coming up
There's a 5 minute Live Anonymous game coming up. I wonder if people will join it. Just pointing out it exists. Hmmm. Looks like it has 3 players and needs 4 more. It should be fun for some people to play. I'm pretty busy though, just thought I'd mention it to those who might be looking for something to do that didn't notice it. :)
