Yes, rest in peace Goondip, and thank you Gilgatex for the wonderful site. I am saddened by the death of the site, but I'm glad that your improved interface and the variants you programmed will survive. Shout out to both my Pan Americans and all the participants in the WWIV test and Gnome De Guerre's World Dip game!

I was enjoying the UN game too.
This is sad news, indeed; it would be nice if Gilgatex would appoint a successor to take over GoonDip. I very much understand the crushing schedule he is under. That UN game was epic, and I was really enjoying my World Dip game, too; props to all my fellow players in both. I wonder if "freezing" the site (and the games thereon) indefinitely so it could be migrated to another server would be possible, or maybe transferred here (once Kestas implements some of the variants)? Well, whatever, it's all good; I kind of like having things end this way, with no resolution, so we can all think of what might have been. It's all good! May you exceed your wildest expectations of success in both work and school, my busy friend! Gilgatex, I have one small request: would you please kindly provide the complete global chat log from my game "Gnome de Guerre presents The World is not Enough" (game 240)? [email protected]

oh - that was very depressing news - though I understand gil's time constraints... law school AND diplomacy - holy cow.

well - might as well admit it now that its gone... i was "Vagabond" (or Lost Vagabond - i dont remember) on goondip... I was playing Thailand in the UN game and Ghana in the awesome world game with the USA/Canada/Ghana domination... I'm curious who everyone else was now that I'm no longer there.

now i have to wait for new things to be implemented here :( and we all know that could take months. (though they will be better tested) or run my own server... which i keep promising myself i will do. Mainly Fog of War...

Thank you gilgatex for your hard work and time. I hope it was as much fun for you as it was for us.
Update on goonDip--we may be getting it back! Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you were doing), accounts and games will be wiped, but it appears we will be getting all the cool features back. Good news if it comes to pass!

So, the kindly tyrant is taking over the site? Too bad no games will be continued :(
To gilgatex - Thanks for all your hard work and providing me with my first experience of diplomacy variants. Best of luck with all your non-goon-dip related activities.
To Babak - I was your Canadian ally in that fun world game (operating under the same user name as I have here), and that was certainly shaping up to be a fun game :)

Ah, I wondered who Vagabond was. Thanks for keeping me (and yourself) sharp on the world's developments :)

@redsquirrel: I had the idea Gilgatex was always busy tweaking his website, fixing bugs and in the mean while playing games. I told him to take a rest several times.

Developing a website takes a lot of time Ursa, particularly if its something you're interested in.

@Gilgatex- Thank you so much for your great site. I really enjoyed it, and I can't imagine how much work it must have been. I really would love to see it back up with no new games allowed, so we can finish our current games. I would also like to mention how much I enjoyed a few particular variants. I would LOVE to see
7islands, winter 1900, and Sail-Ho! here.

@The PanAm Alliance- I want you all to know I (USA) was staying true. I was ready to patch it up with Brazil and do something active over seas.

I bid you all *puts gun to head* fair well...

Oh wait, I'll just have to keep spreading contract diplomacy here and wait for the merger. Thanks Gilgatex!

Viva la Pan American Alliance!

Also, it still might not merge for a while; the kindly tyrant may keep it seperate with all of the variants available. (He is taking it over you know)

Paulsalomon27 (731 D)

Oh nevermind...the kindly tyrant...That's too bad we'll lose our games and stuff. Well That's better than nothing i guess, but a merge would be the best... pwetty pwease.

go tyrant. i had a couple of games with you. not sure what your user name is here but thankyou. bummer we lose the games (i was doing so well) but at least the site can live on because im sure kestas will not implement all variants here.
MercuryEnigma (517 D)
13 Jan 10 UTC
Well, that is kinda disappointing. I am glad that the TheKindlyTyrant is taking over, but I miss the WWIV variant game... Maybe if there was some way to reposition everyone the same way... or what if giglatex gave TKT the info just without the emails...

Anyways, hopefully we can get another on up an running soon.

"UPDATE 1/12 @ 3:30pm (GMT-6): The kindly tyrant has generously offered to take over and manage the site. He will be obtaining a PURGED version of the site with no users and no games, because I do not want to hand off a database full of everyone's email addresses. All the features, options, and even domain name will be exactly as they are here, but you will have to create a new account and play new games. Keep checking back goondip.com and eventually you'll see the site on his web server."

---

Would there be any way of keeping the games somehow? Pausing them all, putting all users through CD so that we could buy ourselves back into the countries we held, or something like that? Losing the active games was probably what discouraged me the most of the site going down. :(

@Paulsalomon27

I was Brazil, and I did want to attack USA, and would have had I seen an opportunity to. However, I was going to move towards Africa the coming turn. It's nothing personnal, I just feel the USA is in such a shity place on that map that it deserves to die every time as soon as possible. :P
Paulsalomon27 (731 D)

its true, Brazil. I was really weak, and if I was more cutthroat I would have moved on ven and Col or something, taking Cen.

I was drwiggles, Columbia in the WWIV game, and Oz in that world wide map.

@Babak, I am not surprised that was you in both games. You talked more than anyone else combined, even though I wasn't anywhere near you.

Gil did a great job with that site, but I found it odd that he won so many games, although many were test games with dummies. Even in the WWIV he was on top when our game ended. I'm disappointed that I never really got a chance to face him, and see what made him so good.

I just generally find the USA to be in a really crappy spot, had nothing to do with you. Hell, first thing I did as West Can on this game was to rush the USA. ;)
USA a crappy spot? I was in a different world game and I was far in the lead as USA with British Columbia crushed and all but one of it's territories going to me a seabased Quebec had no chance on stopping my onslaught had I turned my gaze towards him. Central America was a good enough stalemate to keep Brazil out of Northern American affairs and I had plenty of ways to go with a Pacific and Atlantic home SC. I actually think that USA has the strongest place on the map!

As a tribute and continuation of the promisingly-epic game cut short at GoonDip, I have started a new anonymous global-chat-only game on the new world map! I made the ante all the coins I had, which also happens to be my area code. Are you ready to get this party started again?

Switching via convoy
I know there's a rule that 2 units can't switch positions. For example, an army in Sweden can't switch positions with an army in Norway in 1 turn - you have to go to Finland first or StP. But what if there were to be a fleet in Ska? Norway -> Sweden via convoy; Sweden -> Norway. Would that work?

Thank you.
