http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=19135
As a tribute and continuation of the promisingly-epic game cut short at GoonDip, I have started a new anonymous global-chat-only game on the new world map! I made the ante all the coins I had, which also happens to be my area code. Are you ready to get this party started again?

Switching via convoy
I know there's a rule that 2 units can't switch positions. For example, an army in Sweden can't switch positions with an army in Norway in 1 turn - you have to go to Finland first or StP. But what if there were to be a fleet in Ska? Norway -> Sweden via convoy; Sweden -> Norway. Would that work?

Thank you.

I wanted to give kudos to whoever is play country X in my anonymous Gunboat game. I haven't played in a few months, and made a couple mistakes, but my hat is off to you for such a well played game. I'd shake your hand if I knew who you were.

Ghost Ratings
I read the explanation of ghost ratings and find myself strangely confused. Can someone give me a sentence or two summary of what they are and how you move up or down in them? Thanks.
ottovanbis (150 DX)

you play to win the game. play against better players, don't draw with noobs, don't cd.

Good description Otto.
I heard a great description recently where someone said its like the points system except better players have a higher buyin. The other point is that you can't choose to play a friendly game for low points with the GR system. It doesn't care how you play just the result.
I believe Ghost has it written up on his site.

hmmm. What wrong with drawing with Noobs? ;-)
bbdaniels (461 D(B))
15 Jan 10 UTC
hmmm... given the importance of GR to a players' pride around here, does anyone think we ought to have an option to exclude a 'casual' game from the ghost-rankings? he's using an automated algorithm anyway to pull the game results, so a binary option that he's aware of would easily let us exclude games from the corpus if we like, right?

(thanks to figlesquidge for sparking that thought)
Elleynn (407 D)
15 Jan 10 UTC
Hmm, what is a GR that one should be proud of? =p
bbdaniels (461 D(B))
15 Jan 10 UTC
dunno, but certainly not mine ;)

one standard deviation above the average? 1.5? 2, if you're really exceptional?
StevenC. (1047 D(B))
15 Jan 10 UTC
Elleynn,

A ghost rating to be proud of should be at the very least a 210.....
Elleynn (407 D)
15 Jan 10 UTC
Haha, I'm just curious. There's no way I'm there, or ever will be. =]
ottovanbis (150 DX)
15 Jan 10 UTC
mine's near 300...
bbdaniels (461 D(B))
15 Jan 10 UTC
lesseee, if my statistics memory serves me right, and if GR variance is truly 40 as per the explanation there, then anything above 106.325 is quite solid and anything over 112.650 is, well, top-class.
bbdaniels (461 D(B))
15 Jan 10 UTC
(the former being +1SD and the latter being +2)
StevenC. (1047 D(B))
15 Jan 10 UTC
Wait, what? A 112 is pretty high for a starter here at Web Dip but I wouldn't call it top class as it is pretty easy to get that sort of rating....
bbdaniels (461 D(B))
15 Jan 10 UTC
perhaps true, but then again it has been cited that it can take as many as ~50 trials to get an accurate rating.

also, either the variance or my math could be wildly off. someone should pull the complete dataset and get the experimental, not the theoretical, variance of the outcomes.
bbdaniels (461 D(B))
15 Jan 10 UTC
oy, speaking of, it is possible to get an .xls or a .csv of the full spreadsheet? google-type formatting is giving my Excel shit when I try to crunch the numbers.

bbdaniels (461 D(B))

ah, well that craps all over my analysis then. what sort of distribution is it?

a question:
does the number of scs in a wta count for ghost rankings?
I mean, in a wta games that I ain't winning and I will survive anyway, does it matter if I have 2 or 4 scs or is it the same?
figlesquidge (2131 D)
16 Jan 10 UTC
No it doesn't
ottovanbis (150 DX)
16 Jan 10 UTC
if you don't draw or solo, you are a loser in wta, that's how it works. like i said earlier, you play to win the game
akilies (861 D)
16 Jan 10 UTC
yeah which i constantly fail the game, i'm not cutthroat enough, i need to beat people down more often. I'm just to warm and cuddly :)
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

The reward system for Ghost-Ratings is PPSC or WTA just as it is in points.

2 words, who cares.

It's a game people get over yourselves. There's a life beyond your keyboards. It's a life being manipulated by the financial structures that control 75% of the world for sure but instead of fighting here we all should be fighting out there. Or at least we should play a live gunboat.
