@flashman, i think some players were doped before the book was opened. No triples or exotic bets I'm afraid. You underestimate yourself, I may put my dip points on you yet and others have also.

update, TGM odds are now 8-1; flashman's are now 9-1. People should bet early to get better odds, I will of course honour everybody who bet on TGM at 10-1

By leaving things up in the air you're being a bit unfair to anyone who is looking at this. They may make farcical bets on the assumption nothing will come of it; they may spend a decent amount of time watching other games, waiting to see if their bets come to fruition.

Personally, I assumed it was a non-issue due to a perception that Maniac didn't have the ability to pay out if someone won - or, for that matter, that he had the ability to yoink points if someone lost. I considered it an interesting academic exercise and a nice case study on games theory, but nothing more.... but now I think it's reasonable to get a definitive answer one way or the other on this whole process

Ghost, I don't think this is a good idea. It's going to take forever to move points around if the betting gets heavy, there is no way to police it, and frankly, it's just wrong.

It was fun whilst it lasted...

I would suggest that it will eat into your already busy schedule. Mind you, as you are in the same group as me, perhaps the added distraction will cause you to err...

I see no harm in a public listing of 'bets' regarding who will win any particular group, but the moment points are involved it gets messy.

And can we start playing!

The idea is fun, it's not important who came up with it, is it? Whoever wants to not participate can avoid it, and it's not so much points anyway. With Ghost to back it up I see no problem somehow? Worst-case Maniac will go below into negative values :)

Hey guys, what's going on this was only meant to be a bit of fun!

Actually I'm OK if you all want to carry on with this, obviously if I had of known I was losing points for real I would have worked in a bigger commission and spent more time setting the odds. The original odds for the ghost were obviously a bit of fun and he new odds are generous in the extreme. I think if we carry on Ghost has to move to 7-1 from here on in. In the A League Ivo_Ivanov odds were just a stab in the dark, his profile wasn't very revealing as regards data so I errr, well how can I put it. Just made up some odds. On further inspection, he should be 9-2 from here on in. Happy betting.

Can we have a vote on whether you should (a) be able to bet on yourself and 9B0 whether you should be able to bet within your league.

I'll put 8 on destp, 8 on flashman, and 4 on ghost. I think we should ask Kestas if this is ok.. as mods do have the power... but my gut instinct says that this would only further devalue points as any sort of ranking system. I once asked Kestas if I could give small values of points like 1 or 5 to people who were particularly helpful on the forum and he refused on the grounds that it would only further devalue points as any sort of ranking system.

I spoke to Kestas about it, and he thought it was an interesting idea.

I think I probably ought to ask him when its not 5am in the morning for him though...
