Playing with less than 7?
Does anyone know if we are able to play a game with less than 7 people? And if we can, does anyone know how we go about doing that? Our current game will only start if we have 7.

Western Meddling in Iranian Protests
So this is great and all. Encouraging protests and stuff. Um didnt this happen in Iran in Arab Spring too? When people start dying were gonna look pretty bad again. Like we encouraged a coup but didnt actually care about the consequences.

Fewer live classic games these days?
Looking back through the last couple months' completed games, it feels like there are far fewer Classic live games than there were a few years ago. Do other people have the same feeling?

CCR and I are destined to keep matching up in 1v1 tournaments
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
15 Nov 17 UTC
A Challonge for the tournament has been set up here: http://webdiplomacy.challonge.com/Winter20171v1ChampionsLeague

PM's have been sent to players instructing them to create games and link to opponents. Each player should end up in 6 games, 2 against each group stage opponent. I will be regularly checking to ensure all games get underway. If you have any problems, please PM me about them.

Thank you to everyone who signed up. If you didn't make the cut this time, work on your Elo rating for next May, and you can qualify then. To all participants: Good luck, and may the best player win :)

Clarification: Obviously, "any problems" includes needing me to reallocate countries if you draw the same country in both games against an opponent!

FTR - If you’re in my anonymous tournament and thus have vowed not to look at anyone else’s game history, you are allowed to look at your League opponents’ game history, but only for League play, *not* to circumvent my anonymous tournament rules (cough, cough, XORXES, cough cough).

This is a conspiracy
michaelf77 has clearly dropped 60 in rank just to get at me this tournament

"Group Stage Tiebreakers: [...] Should two (or more) players finish with an equal number of points, Head to Head record shall be the first tiebreaker. Number of Austria wins in the Head to Heads shall be the second tiebreaker. Total Austria wins shall be the third tiebreaker. "

Isn't the second tiebreaker by definition going to be a tie? If two players are tied in head to head, then they have to have the same number of Austria wins in head to head.

"Knockout Stage Tiebreakers: If the two legs do not produce a clear winner (either 1-0 or 2-0), then a first tiebreaker game will be played. If this game is also drawn, then a fourth game will be played - and only then will Austria advance in the case of a tie."

I assume the sides in the first tiebreaker are decided by random lot. If it goes to the second tiebreaker are the sides again chosen randomly, or do players switch sides from the first tiebreaker?
xorxes (31128 D)

"Isn't the second tiebreaker by definition going to be a tie? If two players are tied in head to head, then they have to have the same number of Austria wins in head to head."

Yes, but if more than two players are tied, it may be different
cspieker (18223 D)
20 Nov 17 UTC
How so?
Zybodia (355 D)
20 Nov 17 UTC
For example, three players can be tied at a record of WTT, all tying against each other. One of those could easily have beaten both of the others with Austria, and lost to both as France.
cspieker (18223 D)
20 Nov 17 UTC
But the second tiebreaker is in head-head games. So for 3-way tie "head to head" includes games that one was not involved. Got it.
