Good Morning Mushroom Kingdom!
It seems I'm a little late to the party (cause reasons). Anyway, before I delve into the little interaction we have so far. Allow me to share a little thing I put together when I realized that there is a good number of novices and second timers in this game, and at least some of them are probably VTs. As such I give you the following:
"Hey guys, Vash here. As a VT main, I feel I may as well reveal how I play as one (using this strategy YMMV, after all, different strategies work for different people anyway, let’s get into this.)
RULE 1: Don’t be afraid to die.
One thing that VTs should try to avoid is fearing death in the game. From the town perspective, it is a battle of attrition, and fortunately, it doesn’t matter if you are among the fallen or the living, just that the mafia die. As such, do not be afraid of the lynch or the NK, do not simply let it happen (it is still better for the mafia to die), but try not to be overly defensive when you are on the block. State your case, and search for scum. And if you get NK’d, consider it an honor, it means you were either a town leader or close to the trail of the mafia.
Rule 1.a: Don’t lurk.
Sure you may be busy from time to time. Your post count may suffer as a result, this is okay, but try not to make a habit of it. If you start looking you can’t affect the lynch aside from a vote and are unable to truly voice your concerns. As such, post and be productive. If you lurk, I will lynch you ad it is a way for mafia to fly under the radar.
Rule 1.b: Don’t Spam
There can be too much of a good thing. And while posting is good, it’s horrible if you actually post too much. Sure sometimes you like to get your thoughts out there, but when you clog up the thread with your ideas people are bound to dismiss your opinion and you can actually work against getting your top scumread lynched. As such, spamming has been a good way for mafia to hide. I.e if you spam, I will lynch you.
Rule 2: Be organized
The best way to convince people of your case is to be very organized with your posts as it makes it easier for people to follow the logical flow of your mind, and if they can do that, they should also be able to follow this to your conclusion. After all, mafia really like to make the town fall into a pool of chaos and despair, and being organized is the best way to combat this.
Rule 3: Be Objective
Look, I know, it can be hard when you are under pressure to be completely objective, but try to be clear of mind. For when you stop being objective it leads to things like tunnelling, and OMGUSing. These often keep you from putting together the puzzle and simply allow the mafia to manipulate you. Petty grievances are no reason to vote for someone. Overall, try and separate yourself from the game and look at it from the big picture. After all, a lot of things are obviously when you step back and ask, “why did this happen?”
Rule 4: If you can’t lynch mafia. Lynch bad town.
So this is probably the most controversial rule as it implies lynching town is a good thing. This is not what I am saying. What I am saying is if there is are two people on the block, and you think neither are scum (your scum reads just can’t get up for lynch at the time being) then you should think of who is a worse loss for the town. Because at the end of the day, if you lynch bad town, you minimize the negative impact on the town, and possibly allow everyone else to be able to think clearly or not be polluted by people leading the town astray (of course this factor is mostly subjective I guess). Bad town includes (but is not limited to): unexcused lurking, spamming, dismissing cases, not providing ANY reasons for reads/votes, etc….
Rule 5: NK Analysis and Meta Matters
Look, everything in mafia happens for a reason. The mafia don’t kill randomly, as some people just are more valuable targets. As such, when someone dies, or some abilities are used, you must ask, “Why?”. After all the key to any murder is motive, sure there may be multiple, in that case, find the most likely option and work from that. Also, if you have info (not personal info but playstyle info) on another player in the game. Use it, sure people change, but there will always be similar threads between playstyles for people, even if certain aspects do. As such a good starting point (But not lynchpin) in any mafia investigation is “is this person playing like they usually do as x”.
Rule 6: Be Civil and Have Fun
This is a major undertone of this entire post but, no matter how much you dislike someone, no matter how wrong you think someone is, be civil about it. Try not to dismiss people and work with what they give you (and hopefully they will try their best to help to be clear in their statements). After all, this is a game. It’s meant to be fun (if challenging) and bring us together as a community. So try and have a fun time, and don’t be a dick.
Hopefully this is helpful to any new (and maybe some veteran players)
Now let’s catch some scum."
Anyway, it seems that as always, the beginning of Day 1 is a bit chaotic. We have bb and Jamiet continuing their little feud, a bunch of joke votes for HR on page 1 (literally I don't think we've ever caught scum using page 1 in any capacity so whatever) and krellin actually being coherent and useful (I still disagree with him, but it seems to be a step in the right direction, even if it's just my perception of change and the content being mostly the same). Anyway, not much to gleen from this, yet. Anyway, what shall we talk about now? PR strategy?
