Guak, the rule leaves it open to interpretation. This is not a loophole, it means that one way is correct. As one way is common sense and is the way we have been playing, that is the way we will continue to play until something says otherwise. You should propose an amendment to clarify once my rule passes (right now we can't propose amendments).

First of all, squigs is wrong on the last one. Voting aye, in a legal sense such as this, just means voting in the affirmative. There were not quotation marks around the word "aye," so everybody who voted in the affirmative gets the points.

Second, @Squigs, I would prefer interpretation be another role, like judge. If you're open to considering that change. But I'd probably vote for your rule as is, with the important exception that there has to be something to keep the president from "interpreting" the rules to keep us from stripping him of any powers should we need to.

Finally, I vote no on the current proposal.

Fine, that weakens my case, removing that argument, but it doesn't defeat it. Voting "aye" is still a term of art for voting in the affirmative.

i think the quotation marks are the crucial point here, since it doesn't say in favour or anything. note that nay isn't, so pointz are being taken for voting no, i assume?

also, i'm sad that we lost jamiet, but i think it's kind of funny that he left over a rule dispute when that's literally what the game is about. kind of like saying "all this lying in diplomacy gets on my nerves, i quit".

Guys, can we actually get this game going. It kinda lost all of its "fun" factor. We seriously need to fix this game. And we only need 6 votes to do it now. I think that we need to come up with some legitimate proposals that fix all of our problems and loopholes, retract any proposals that are dumb (I admit my last proposal was kinda dumb) and vote on stuff. Once are system is fixed and there are no loopholes, then we can do the dumb stuff and the chaotic stuff and whatnot. What we need is a leader #ElectSquigsForNomicPrez

I think I am going to quit too. I thought this would be fun, but what is the point in playing a game about rule disputes if no one wants to discuss the rules?

Wow, has it really been 24 hours since I last posted?? Well, according to rule 15, I have to state that I have returned from inactivity, so this post serves that purpose. Also, since no rules have been proposed in the last 24 hours, they all expire. I guess that means that I can propose any rule I want, and there only has to be two votes (between me, kasi, and Atrum) for it to pass. Are either of you (kasi or Atrum) currently on, becuase if so, we could pass a lot of proposals and fix this game up.

First, we need to be able to queue amendments, since that is a huge problem right now. I propose the following rule:

Amendments and deletions can be queued, in the same manner as rules.

Any particular reason that you vote nay. I feel like this is a glaring hole in our rules right now that needs to be fixed.

Also, now we need 3 yeas in order to pass anything, at least until kasi or atrum drop into inactivity or some other people come back.

I like the freedom with deleting and amending. New rules, I'm fine with, but I don't want to slow the ability to amend.

Vash, as of right now, we CANT amend or delete things, because we are only allowed to vote on one thing at a time. If we have a rule open for voting (like we do right now) we cant vote on amendments or deletions, and we cant queue them. So there is no way to amend or delete things right now. There is NO freedom right now.

If you want to make it so that we can ALWAYS amend or delete things, then we need to amend our rules to make it that way. We could try to get that going right now.

Rules in Place:

1. No Dice Rolling
2. First player to accumulate "exactly" 500 nomic pointz wins
3. The winner can only win on a BST weekday
4. The current players are to be tracked.
5. All proposed new rules, proposed rule changes, or proposed rule deletions require a simple majority (more than half) of those playing, in order to pass, with the proposer automatically presumed to vote in favour unless they state otherwise.
6. Current Players are referred to as Nomic Members.
7. Game is not turn-based.
8. To be a Nomic Member, new players must have backing by at least one Nomic Member.
9. Each Nomic Member may only propose one rule change / amendment / deletion per hour.
10. Any rule, amendment, or deletion proposal that has not passed within 24 hours of being suggested becomes rejected automatically.
11. Only one rule proposal or amendment may be open for consideration at any one time. Once a rule proposal or amendment has been made, voting on that proposal or amendment must be concluded before any other proposal or amendment can be made. Furthermore, we are resolving open proposals or amendments by a queue, and ghug gets 10 Nomic Pointz.
12. Nomic Pointz can be accumulated through +1's on this thread.
13. All Nomic members whose username does not start with a capital letter gains 50 Nomic Pointz.
14. Rules can be queued, but each person is limited to 1 rule in the queue.
15. If a player has not made a post in the last 24 hours, they are added to a list of inactive players. When a player is in the inactive list, they do not count towards the total of players currently in the game. To cease being an inactive player, the player must simply state that they have returned from inactivity. If a player has been inactive for 48 hours (i.e. has not made a post in the last 72 hours), they will be added to a ‘suspended’ players list. When a player is suspended, they are treated under the same conditions as inactive, with the following change:
Instead of being able to state that they have returned, they must ask to re-enter the council floor, which will prompt an immediate vote from the active Nomic Members. This vote requires the normal simple majority to pass, and if passed, the player is immediately re-added to the active Nomic Members list, making them count towards the vote total, and allowing them full voting privileges.
16. There is a President of Nomic. The President will be elected on a weekly basis, election to be held on Monday (GMT) in parallel with any other voting. Initially, the President will have no additional powers or privileges, but additional rules can ascribe them to whoever is the sitting president by referencing simply "the president."
