Question - I don't understand what I did wrong.
Modern Diplomacy II Map - I'm Spain, I have a fleet Seville, Sea of Gibraltar, and an army in Gibraltar. The UK has a fleet in Morocco and that's it. Our fleets bounced in the South Atlantic Sea, I attempted to convoy my army from Gibraltar to Algeria... but it failed.. So why did it fail if the other player didn't touch my unit in Gibraltar & the Sea of Gibraltar?

anyone up for a game of nomic?
from wikipedia: "nomic is a game in which changing the rules is a move. in that respect it differs from almost every other game. the primary activity of nomic is proposing changes in the rules, debating the wisdom of changing them in that way, voting on the changes, deciding what can and cannot be done afterwards, and doing it. even this core of the game, of course, can be changed."

That counts as a fail, next proposal:

Semck: There should be a President of Nomic. The President will be elected on a weekly basis, election to be held on Monday (GMT) in parallel with any other voting. Initially, the President will have no additional powers or privileges, but additional rules can ascribe them to whoever is the sitting president by referencing simply "the president."

Aye: Semck, Squigs44
Nay:

Kasi, I like the idea, but not if we're rewarding survives over defeats.

Why do we want a president? we already got one too many. Maybe something more fun like an imperator

We need two more Yea votes.

@ghug: yeah, we could say -5 survive -10 defeat, or both -10. that is of course up for discussion.

also, aye on the current proposal.
semck83 (229 D(B))

At least according to the influential 1915 edition of Robert's Rules of Order, aye/no is used for simultaneous viva voce voting ("All those in favor ...."), whereas yea/nay is used for individual roll-call voting. I would suggest that this more closely models the latter, at least to the extent people care (as I do) about Robert's Rules.
ghug (5068 D(B))
02 Aug 14 UTC
I'd really be fine with either, it's just aye/nay that bugs me.
ghug (5068 D(B))
02 Aug 14 UTC
Kasi, I'd vote for it if it were changed to -10 for both and there were a requirement to keep it anon instead of the metagaming rule (people tend to metagame without realizing it).
Squigs44 (273 D)
02 Aug 14 UTC
guak if you switch over, then we can move onto my proposal and all the active people can get their pointz (including you). It is probably going to pass anyway, so you might as well vote aye... or I guess yea (according to some edition of a book from about 100 years ago).
kasimax (243 D)
02 Aug 14 UTC
sorry, that was me. english's not my mother tounge, and i just thought that aye/nay sounds good when i introduced it backn on page two or so.

alright, will change it to -10 for both and restriction to anon/semi-anon.
ghug (5068 D(B))
02 Aug 14 UTC
Squigs, yea/nay is pretty standard.
Squigs44 (273 D)
02 Aug 14 UTC
Yeah, but using an obscure book from around 100 years ago as justification doesn't really help your case.
semck83 (229 D(B))
02 Aug 14 UTC
Robert's Rules of Order is anything but obscure. If you haven't run across it so far in life, so much the happier for you; but it is used almost universally for running deliberative meetings.
I vote yea for president

and run for it
With 7 votes that passes. Okay, I believe we are onto semck's proposal.
Sorry onto Squigs' proposal. I'm on mobile, can someone update the rules?

Where were you guys when I proposed to change aye votes to yay? lol
guak (3381 D)
02 Aug 14 UTC
Squigs proposal is extortion and it is written so it embezzles nomic members. You guys voting yes are also missing out on the benefits. Proposal clearly states only those voting 'aye' get the pointz and those voting 'nay' are docked their pointz. That means anyone voting yes or no is not getting anything.
guak (3381 D)

I say we all vote no!

Little colored bars?
When clicking another country's tab in the game interface, what is the significance of the stacked, colored bar above the messaging interface? The colors seem to be the colors of the various countries, but I can't figure out what they represent.
