The Ancient Med - not year 1
What year is the Ancient Mediterranean set? Definitely not year 1AD, by then the Med was a Roman Lake. Carthage was destroyed in 146BC, Egypt fell to Rome in 47BC, Greece had been Roman for centuries. Only Persia can claim some independence on that map.

It's my webDip Birthday!
I'm 5 years old and about to play my 100th game! I would like to invite friends, new and old, to play. To be eligible, I'd ask you make a donation to the site (of any amount). WTA 36 Hours non-anon. Express your interest below. And, of course, thanks to Kestas, the mods, and the peanut gallery for making this the best site on the Internet.

17 games, 17 players
Who's in? 17 world gunboats, one game as each nation, 50 hour phases, WTA, anon, ready-up preferred (but no means required), only prearranged pauses (example, if someone insists on a winter break pause, we will ask the mods to unpause at an agreed time if we don't unpause ourselves by then), 5 D bets for a total of 85 D buy-in. Who's in?

Two things.

I think adding the continents scoring adds and unnecessary complexity to the game. But that's just my two cents. I'm down for anything.

I think pausing for NMRs is a really bad idea. We're for sure going to get them fast and furious. I suggest we limit it to CDs. Hell, I'd even be ok saying CDs of countries smaller than x (4 centres?) should just be ignored but that could be a bit much I dunno.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
08 Nov 12 UTC
I concur with Yonni on both points. I would hate to get to the situation I'm in here as Ghana and get nothing for it http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=100826
dubmdell (556 D)

Fair points. We can always adopt this system from Fred Townsend (* is my addition):
Solo = +100
2 Way draw = +48 each
3 Way draw = +31 each
4 Way draw = +22 each
5 Way draw = +17 each
6 Way draw = +13 each
7 Way draw = +7 each
*8 way draw = +3 each
*9 way draw = +2 each
*10 way draw = +1 each

But I have seen a number of world games posted in the forums where they reach a point of relative stalemate and not a true point of stalemate, where everyone has potential to solo, but someone has to take the chance first, and no one will. I'm completely willing to change the scoring system, I just hope we don't end up with a lot of games in this situation.

I'm not sure we will hit NMRs fast and furious, at least, not with the current list. Even still, if general consensus is to change the policy to CDs and >4 centers, we'll do so.

Whatever will maximize everyone's fun. That's what I care about most.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

2 way draw would never happen in a world game… maybe you could adjust that system for that reason.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
08 Nov 12 UTC
In the end I'll play with whatever scoring rules. All I'm requesting is that if you survive to the end of the game, no matter what the circumstances, you should get more than zero points.
Yonni (136 D(S))
08 Nov 12 UTC
I know it goes against everything good in the world but... PPSC? Could that make sense for the World Map?
I don't even know why I'm commenting on this. I've never played a World Game.
dubmdell (556 D)
08 Nov 12 UTC
Alright, how about this? We measure the winner by all three metrics (continents, Townsend, and PPSC), and we see which method /seems/ most accurate. In the end, the winner is whoever had the most fun, but some fellows like points for whatever reason.

dubmdell (556 D)
09 Nov 12 UTC
Guys, guys, guys. Don't let one stray comment confuse you. Of course this is all at once! If anyone is terribly concerned about this, we can increase the phase time to 72 hours.

Before we begin, we need to make sure every pause is announced and agreed to on duration.

Draws
Sifting through 10 pages of open positions, I am noticing that it's increasingly uncommon that people actually draw for a CD. In a few games, people have pushed for it, and others have seemed to have no understanding as to why they'd draw for a CD. Did this etiquette just disappear like magic? Pre-1903 CDs should *always* constitute a draw and post-1903 CDs should constitute a draw if they result in a loss of a line that would otherwise be present. When did this stop?
