Live Game Implementation.
Is there any plan to implement the option to change the turn length mid-game? Being able to start a game with one hour turns (to give players time to join), then switch to 15 minute turns (not even optional atm) and then when someone can't sit and play any longer, we could all vote to switch it to a normal 25 hour game.

Also, if anyone is interested in playing a live game, I had a press message from NicholasPatrick saying he might try to get another together when he wakes.

New Game
Hi, I'm new to this site but not new to Diplomacy. I just made a new game, 'A Revolution' with 1 hour long turns and a bet of 5.

My favorite pet peeve
Having so many units that putting in orders takes forever. Anyone agree?

(This thread is completely benign, provocative posts will be disregarded by me)

Working Yorkshire Terriers are fantastic. By working I mean the rough ones that look like miniature bears and hunt rats. I don't mean the toy kind.

A thread about pet peeves and/or the pain of having so many orders to enter, turning into a thread about whether and when it is appropriate or not to hijack threads. Rather ironic.

On another message board I frequent, when someone trolls for a fight, they just start talking about food.

For example, there is a big debate between folks from Texas (and perhaps other states) and other folks about whether chili has beans in it or not. Texans sarcastically refer to chili that has beans as bean soup, not chili. And you can always discuss your favorite beers or pies of course.

I felt like that was an appropriate response from him DJ.
Why? He said he would ignore provocative posts? No response was necessary.

I have a pet peeve, I feed him mushrooms and worms.
Chrispminis (916 D)

I don't know why anyone would keep a peeve as a pet. That's got to be worse than a poodle.

I agree with DbJ, German Shepherds are tops. I've got 4. o.O

Poodles are real dogs. Don't be fooled by the fancy haircut. The were bred as hunting dogs and are consdiered to be the most intelligent of all breeds.

Speaking of Pluto the dog, how do you guys feel about the downgrading of Pluto as a planet? Poor little guy, spends decades as a planet only to be reduced to a 'planetoid' and then a 'dwarf planet'.
OMGNSO (415 D)
24 May 09 UTC
Pluto is an imposter. It didn't come from our solar system but just tried to slip itself in.
Of course this downgrade could be a stab by the rest of the planets.
Exactly OMGNSO, I'm thinking of Pluto and Netpune were to team up, they could knock out Uranus in a year tops.
OMGNSO (415 D)
24 May 09 UTC
But such an alliance would be unstable because they couldn't split into spheres of influence due to Pluto's relative isolation and the conflicting interest as they cross orbits.

And I'll put my doxie up against any badger out there. Dachshunds are rough and tough killers of vermin that kill other dogs. They were bred to go down badger holes and come out the victor. There isn't much that can take them out and nothing (and I mean NOTHING) scares them. They'll take on the biggest of dogs. My Sebi was attacked by a Rottweiller and the Rott was the one went to the hospital as Sebi ripped out his throat. Dachshunds are like Yoda and we all know you don't fuck with Yoda.

Pluto should not be a planet. There are asteroids out there that are bigger than Pluto, and they aren't planets. What sets Pluto apart?

Will you have a house or an apartment? Will you be living alone or have a roommate? If a house with a yeard, will it be fenced in? Finally, will you have lots of time to give to the animmal or does it have to be fairly independent?
Draugnar (0 DX)
24 May 09 UTC
oops yard, not yeard.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
24 May 09 UTC
Apartment, I would live alone. And hopefully independent, though i could spend at least a few hours a day with it. Is that even possible?

I mean obviously it would hopefully be a dog that doesn't bark much.
Draugnar (0 DX)
24 May 09 UTC
Avoid hounds, then. Even small ones. Beagles and Dachshunds love to bark, howl, and bay. I love the small hounds but they bark at everything. We had a Shih-Tzu that only barked if it heard someone at our door and, as small as they are, they have a big dog bark. Units on either side of us were robbed and ours wasn't one day and we swear it was Bandit's big dog bark.

You better not get a puppy and you better spend more than a few hours with any dog. You can be off at work/school, but you can't come home, feed it, walk it, and take off for the evening all the time. If your going to do that, don't get a dog. Get a cat. If you'll be out and about all weekend, get a cat. Dogs need love, cats don't care.

A Jack Russel or Rat Terrier might be up your alley if you are willing to spend some time. They are very intelligent and will entertain themselves, but make certain you give them plenty to do or they WILL get into stuff when your gone.

Hmmmm...

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are good at not barking much, loving humans, and just "holding down the fort" in general.
diplomat1824 (0 DX)
24 May 09 UTC
They were used in the Middle Ages as small hunting dogs and warming the feet of noble children in bed.
Draugnar (0 DX)
24 May 09 UTC
Diplofool.. The middle ages predate King Charles I whom the dog is named after. You, once again, prove yourself the Diplofool. The King Charles Spaniel was so named because a Blenheim-coated spaniel was the children's pet in the household of Charles I. Such spaniels can be seen in many paintings of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. The middle ages, however, ran from the 5th Century until at latest the 16th Century, so the small spaniels only came around at the very end of the middle ages and the King Charles Spaniels didn't come about as a named breed until the 17th century.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
24 May 09 UTC
Ok maybe I exaggerated... I could spend more time than it seems you think. It's not like I would never be home.

However, maybe I'll hold off on getting a pet then. I'd never get a cat... ugh

Do you stay friends?
I would like to know what everyone thinks. If an ally misses a turn and it seems as though he will likely miss the next turn should you attack them, and if that ally comes back after you attack him, should he feel betrayed?

Grammarful Game
I started a related thread earlier but couldn't find 7 players.

The only rule to join would be that you must use proper grammar. It is also an intensive communication game. And it's for the fun of diploming, not for points, so the buy-in would be 5 (I don't care whether it's WTA or PPSC). The phases would be 72 hours. Reply if you're interested.
