Country selection not so random
Has anyone else found the countries they get less than random?
I've only played 8 games now, so statistically it's possible but unlikely - that I've got bloody Austria 50% of the time.

Cyber bulling
The American congress is considering a bill to make it illegal. Really shaky ground and ripe for abuse by the powers that be.

Purple Haze - manual unpause please
Our game has been paused now for quite a while because a power in the game was accused of having multiple accounts. Thing is, that power was defeated before the pause and now we're waiting on one player to vote /unpause who hasn't logged on in quite some time.

Would it be possible for you to unpause the game? Pretty please. We'd all greatly appreciate it.

Game Farmer in my current game.
If you take a look at http://phpdiplomacy.net/profile.php?userID=12883 which is the user profile of the person in question, the only other game he has finished is a game where he farmed his points. Just bringing it to your attention.

Are there any players from Athens, Greece?
Maybe we could start a game to get to know each other and later we could also arrange offline games.
Anyone interested?

Obviously untrue.

Really, you realize than the trade off for "independent news" not owned by "corporate America" is that "facts" also go.
Sicarius (673 D)
23 Apr 09 UTC
are you suggesting that corporate news is the sole holder of facts

its 144,000 people that will get into heaven. strangly they dont believ in life after death. so no hell. the soul dies with the body.

When I was in my early twenties, I figured out how to get the Jehovites to avoid my house(rented). It helps if you're a bot of an intellectual degenerate, which I was.

I'll reveal this on it's own thread called, "The Jehovites".
mapleleaf (0 DX)

bot=bit.

Good one. I call myself a bot of an intellectual.

That's some Hall of Fame shit right there.

Sic: the anarchists I know aren't american in the way you intended to use the word.

They're Latin-American.
Sicarius (673 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
so even anarchists wouldnt be stupid enough to steal trotskys remains and bake them into cookies?

what about it is stupid
Invictus (240 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
What about grave robbing is stupid? Come on, now.

What point could they possibly be trying to make? I'm no fan of Trotsky but this genuinely offends me that people think it's OK to desecrate a man's grave just because you disagree with him.

You anarchists want to be taken seriously? Stop eating people.
Hereward77 (930 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
That's a sound-bite for the ages right there.
Sicarius (673 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
that's a hilarious soundbyte actually.

can I quote you?
Xapi (194 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
It's stupid because it furthers no cause and only harms the cause of those who allegedly did it.
Chrispminis (916 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
Well, personally I wouldn't have a problem with it if my ashes were stolen and eaten, because I would be dead... but I'm certain that my relatives would be shocked and it would give them grief, so I suppose by proxy I would have a problem.

Yes, rationally speaking, there's no reason why we should place importance on the remains of our dead, but that doesn't change the fact that we do place importance on the remains of our dead. Sic, you are by far no rational nihilist, and I am sure there are people or objects to which you attribute sentimental value far beyond any rationality... it's part of being human. I would have thought that anarchists would understand this human aspect to the situation... I can understand attacking the system, but this is just plain juvenile dickery. It's one thing to disrespect someone's views and beliefs, it's an entirely different thing to outright disrespect someone, especially someone who's not around to defend themselves.
Chrispminis (916 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
I thought I had done this earlier, but apparently I got sidetracked before I did it.

This:
"my people lived under anarchism for tens of thousands of years."
Sicarius (673 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
my people did. not all indians, thats a gross generalization.
but my tribe, the annishinabeg were egalitarian and non hierarchal.
the cheif gave advice not orders, and there was no punishm, ent for not listening the them.

the navajos, hopis, sioux lakota, chippewa, kiowa, and many others were the same.
OMGNSO (415 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
It all depends on which meaning of Anarchism you are using

Anarchism 1: "A perfect state where no government is needed"

Anarchism 2:"Lets trash the place!!!"
Ivo_ivanov (7545 D)

Anarchy is like Communism - it can work on theory - but will never work with real people. Maybe if we were ants or something...

Can anyone post a link to this story from a RELIABLE source like the BBC or a reputable news agency? I am very sceptical about the truth of this...
Invictus (240 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
The first 3 pages of Google searches are all kooky anarchist websites. I'd think that even if reputable news sources didn't pick up the story at least there would be some Trotskyist websites up in arms about this.

I really doubt it's true.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
24 Apr 09 UTC
Thanks Invictus, I agree. If this was true it would be on the BBC website by now.
Sicarius (673 D)
25 Apr 09 UTC
"Lets trash the place!!!" isnt really anarchism.

unless of course 'the place' is niketown or a gap or bank of america or sierra pacific lumber or a police department or dow chemiclas or huntington life sciences et cetera.

anyway I have absolutely no interest in debating anarchy with someone who doesnt know what it is.
Onar (131 D)
25 Apr 09 UTC
Why don't you explain it, then?
Invictus (240 D)
25 Apr 09 UTC
So "Lets trash the place!!!" is anarchism, you just find a way to justify it to yourselves.
Sicarius (673 D)
25 Apr 09 UTC
because I've explained it several times here before, because I havnt slept in two days, because it can be found elsewhere and more eloquently, because someone would just call me a communist then flood the thread with childish insults.

lets trash the place could just as easily be capitalism, communism, democracy, socialism, concensus, etc. if you explained it right.

anarchists may trash starbucks, but capitalists trash entire nations of people

Arguably no-one really 'knows' what anarchism is because it's the most diffuse of all political ideologies. You can find anarchists that support a huge variety of very different things. So just because someone's description of anarchism doesn't fit yours it doesn't mean it's wrong. There are almost certainly anarchists out there who fit the common definition, as well as ones who fit a variety of definitions totally different from yours.
