Link to Join Games
I hope someone can help me with this problem. I created a new private game and cut and pasted the link given to direct other players to the game, but it doesn't lead anywhere except to an error page. Any advice would be gratefully received.

CD Turkey tave-over needed.
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=7884

Turkey went CD, but in decent position (2nd among three remaining players), if anyone is interested in buying in and playing out the game. Not a bad position to play in and game is sort of ruined with turkey's sudden disappearance.

Un-pausing a paused game
The game "zestoren" was automatically paused when one of the players was banned from phpDiplomacy; his country, Austria, was placed in Civil Disorder and now that country has been taken over.

Every player except England has voted to unpause, and England hasn't been around the site on any of his games since Saturday. Is there a way we could restart the game without him, or at least place his country into CD so it can be taken over?

On Ethics and the Long Defeat (on this forum)
Empirically we all observe that there is always someone present on the forum who is causing a stir. A priori I theorise that many possibilities exist but the possibility itself of deciphering which possibility is the most likely to be true is impossible, at least in the realm of possibility which of course is one of the main realms of the a priori.

Sioraf... was that a response?

Why did you copy that massive post and then put two lines below it?

I assume that link is to a forum with a flame war? Are you trying to imply that Friendly is starting a flame war by substantially commenting on your points? Does it just seem like he is flaming you because it happens that all of your points are stupid and he took the time to dissect them? Are you going to defend your ideas?

I can't believe this thread. I call shenanigans on Sioraf. I believe he's calculatingly compromising the forum. He keeps achieving the perfect level of inanity vs. a reputation for inanity that it's causing me distress to discern whether he's serious or not...

I generally prefer to believe that ridiculously stupid and inane posts are just very elaborate and nuanced jokes.

But sometimes I just can't :(

=============================================
The points are not specifically mine I was just pointing out all of the possibilities so we can discuss which one is most likely the right one. It seems like he is flaming because A He dosen't understand or B He is a bastard and I dearly hope that A is the answer. I will not defend "my" ideas but I will play Devil's Advocate if it will help.

I call Mc Carthyism on you. Why would I compromise this forum I am trying to find out why others are doing it, the difference is considerable I assure you. Inanity, inanity, inanity that same blasted portmanteau in every thread. Overuse a word and it loses meaning you know. I can't care less about my reputation and I don't see why you are annoying me for what appears to be no reason.

Yeah insult me all you like call this, that and the other inane, call everything inane, it won't get you anywhere. Are you sure you're on the right site? You were looking for 2Channel perhaps?
Friendly Sword (636 D)

Sorry if I was a little excessive in my insults Siarof, but I felt I needed to get my point across. People are annoyed at your posts not necessarily because they are bastards, or because they don't understand them, but because of the way you do them.

I don't know if you've noticed, but I subtley tease (blatantly insult in rare cases) everyone if I think they deserve it.

I think you need to calm down. If you want to be taken seriously, take my advice, and if you don't care, well, why are you getting so indignant? :P Silliness Sioraf. Thats all it is. (You actually remind me of my brother- which is not something anyone should want)

Oh, and I just had to highlight this;

"Inanity, inanity, inanity that same blasted portmanteau in every thread. Overuse a word and it loses meaning you know."

There is so much irony dripping from this I'm slipping on it :P. And don't worry Sioraf, it is not simply at your expense as is the usual way of things.
Sent from: Invictus (110 ) Sent: 08:15 PM
That's where I've heard "The Long Defeat" before, it's from Lord of the Rings! Thanks, Friendly Sword. It was driving me crazy.

So I suppose Sioraf is comparing us to the elves of Middle Earth? Also, your thesis is horribly structured and contradictory, Mr. Killeens, a death knell for any argument.

"A priori I theorise that many possibilities exist but the possibility itself of deciphering which possibility is the most likely to be true is impossible, at least in the realm of possibility which of course is one of the main realms of the a priori."

You're saying that a possibility is impossible, and seem to be saying that there is an actual realm of possibility. That's just a turn of phrase, not an actual realm with a sovereign which you can go outside of.

It doesn't make you sound smart, it's just wordy. Brevity is the soul of wit.

Are you sure this isn't a satire?
=============================================
The thesis is not mine. You completely misunderstand what I was saying. Invictus, never read Kant? What I'm saying is many possibilities exist but I don't think it's possible to find out which possibility is the strongest one at least by using probability alone which of course is an a priori thing. Yes I am sure this isn't a satire how many times must I make that clear. I am playing Devil's Advocate here hoping that we can all discuss this calmly and "like men" in order to find out using process of elimination what the answer most likely is because we can't find out the answer using probability. That's how simple it is.

I'm going to make it reeeeeally simple.

"Hey guys, why do you think people keep messing up the forum? I've got a couple of theories. Lets discuss them and narrow them down to whichever ones we think are most likely."

Was that so hard?

=============================================
Ah. I'm sorry. I'm quite new to using a forum (I was on PD but for nearly all of the months there I was doing it wrong but not knowing it) and I haven't been properly doing it for very long so pardon my forum noobiness.

=============================================
Silliness? No. Online people are likely to get more offensive than even in real life so you have to be far more aggresive to stand any chance of making progress. As for being taken seriously I doubt that will happen, nobody over 8 takes a 16 year old seriously and I doubt there are 8 year olds on a Diplomacy website. ;)

figlesquidge (2131 D)

I must admit I remember how old Sioraf is - if only because I'd assumed him to be rather older than me. Strange as this thread may be, at least I've learnt something new. Still, I'm not sure what sort of reactions I'd get if i started using portmanteau in everyday conversation.
Friendly Sword (636 D)
25 Jan 09 UTC
I honestly could care less how old you or anyone else says they are.

I can't see you, and lying about things over the internet is about as well-established as drinking beer at hockey games.

What I CAN see, however, is what you write, and that is how I base my judgement of your arguments and ideas.
Invictus (240 D)

So it is a satire, right?

I like Friendly Swords translation of sioraf's intention. (the less said about siraf's execution of his intent the better)

"Hey guys, why do you think people keep messing up the forum? I've got a couple of theories. Lets discuss them and narrow them down to whichever ones we think are most likely."

so what do you guys think?

oh and sioraf please dont copy and paste in your reply, just adds uneeded lengh to the thread)

Project Gutenberg. Darn, I knew someone would make that pun. I Nietzsche a drink.

Sent from: Invictus (110 ) Sent: 05:55 AM
So it is a satire, right?
=============================================
For the seventh time no.
Well sean Friendly Sword's translation is accurate. If we know what causes the problem we can eliminbate the cause and therefore decrease the problem. Cutting the plant off at the root you know.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
26 Jan 09 UTC
I think the main cause of the problem is size. There are so many people who use the site now its almost to be expected that some of them are going to be "less interesting".
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jan 09 UTC
Sioraf, you still haven't responded to the fact that inane is not a portmanteau. Instead, it is from the Latin inanis, meaning:
1. Empty, Insubtantial,
2. Lacking significance, meaning or point.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Jan 09 UTC
So you show your lack of a true grasp of the meaning of the words you portend to use through you inability to even properly associate those whom you believe are misused or overused. In short, you are a simpleton sixteen year old who needs to learn your place. Take a lesson from a number of teens here who actually DO have an intellect and the respect of the rest of us, istead of sounding like an overbearing oaf who just learned some new big words and how to write a sentenece at it's most obfuscated.
What? I'm scum just for GUESSING that it was a portmanteau? I'll put you in a place, a very unpleasnt one. I am not an overbearing oaf and I do know what the words mean. Is it possible to have a single discussion here without it turning into a huge flamefest?

friends joining the same game
I am new to this site but I have been plaing diplomacy for 10 years. In my recent game my 2 neighbours just attacked me and did not respond to my massages. Then I found out that the play together in all games. Later one of them admitted that they are friends, and that they only join games together to play as allies.Is it common here? If so, I would probably quit playing here

Does it show up in your stats? I was under the impression that it did.
I think I went CD in one of my games (for which I apologize profusely) because it has disappeared from my game record, bit it isn't recorded in my stats. The game was Liar's Poker. (I was looking for it in my game history because I wanted to see who won).
