I'm working on reviving the Dutch Diplomacy scene, and am interested in meeting more Dutch players here. Will also be hosting some FTF games over summer, with existing and new friends.

Any Dutchies here that want to play?

Is it wrong to CD in protest?
When a game should be cancelled in all manners of courtesy, are you justified in a CD? Lets imagine there are multiple CDs or a major power like Russia, Austria, France, or Germany CDs and the game refuses to cancel is it wrong to not waste your time and simply CD as well?

Well, CB, not that your RR is all that, but still
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
30 Apr 15 UTC
@ssorenn- That may be some of the reason why my RR is bad. I tend to NMR in protest quite often. I dont know, I just feel like it wastes everyother players time which is 5 players. I don't mind a CD in press games because you can negotiate alliances against the benefitting nation but in regular low bid GB games you cant do that.

Then don't play those. Solved.

Thank you all for coming out, Any further questions, please refer to my PM......goodnight

If you feel a game is compromised beyond repair, put up a Cancel vote. Then keep playing.

If you solo while having a Cancel vote up, it's their own damn fault.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

I leave my votes up for 2 or 3 years. At that point, if I'm ahead, I play on.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)

So when someone is wasting time you NMR in protest which wastes more time?

RRs are active now. I can't wait for the RR game join filter going to go active.

@the forum at large:

my thoughts on CDs and how to handle them based on who is CDing:

IF I AM CDing: it's a life emergency that far outweighs a game. If it's just a temporary thing, then I'll pause the game or find a sub. I have two CDs from such emergencies.

IF SOMEONE ELSE CDs AND...

--im going to benefit: I take the solo if I can. NMR's and CD's happen. You gotta take a solo any way you can get it. I treat every game like it's part of a tournament. I don't play this game to feel good. I play to win. If I played this game to feel good, then I would quit every time I got stabbed. There's no dishonor in soling when an opportunity presents itself. It's Diplomacy. We lie, cheat and steal in this game and THAT is no less dishonoring than soloing when a CD occurs. Each person sets their standards at different levels. Some have no problem doing far less "moral" things. For example: if you give me your password and we ever play in a game together, I have no problem logging into your username and reading your press. Some may not go that far, but it's no different than listening into someone else's conversation.

--if someone else will benefit and possibly solo: then I call for a draw. I DO NOT CANCEL. I want the CD to be a permanent part of someone's record. I draw because I will probably lose otherwise. If the person that benefits the most won't draw, then I pitch a fit, I band with the rest of the board, I fight back, I whine, kick, scream and bemoan the unfairness of the situation. I DO NOT QUIT. I use whatever means I have available to tip the game in my favor.
A_Tin_Can (2234 D)

FYI: CDs are a part of the persons record even if the game is canceled.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

Well, then doubly so when I draw :)

I figured that was the case, but better to be sure.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)
30 Apr 15 UTC
I took Tru Ninja to mean that he wants the actual *defeat* logged on the irresponsible players permanent record too. Of course, the drawback is that your win % would go down slightly with an extra draw on your own permanent record.

Tru_ninny, I don't play to feel good (that's what self-gratification is for), but I do play to have fun. And I can have fun even when stabbed. Which is good since my back seems to draw flames like moths to a dagger.

Don't get me wrong, I have fun playing the game. It's just that the game may not be fun in the moment. Hence my call that I don't play to feel good. The end result of any game is that it was fun.

@TMoW: I have sat accounts before. I try to let people know if they haven't changed their password since my sitting (ask Thucy on that one).

Brankl (231 D)
30 Apr 15 UTC
I completely agree with CB. Everyone joined the game expecting a fair fight, and if that's not the case in 1901 people should be willing to cancel. I recently benefitted from a CD in a live game, but I don't remember anyone wanting to cancel and I ended up drawing anyway. If everyone wants to play, by all means let them play. But if someone has a problem with the balance of power, the concern should be addressed.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)
30 Apr 15 UTC
So everyone gang up against those who benefit from the CD and force them to Draw.

How do you move/attack territories with fleets. Have England in my first game ever and don't know how to do anything. Also looks like I can't attack neutral territories (Ireland, etc), is this correct?

Protestor Beaten on Live TV
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9z20Jgzz464

I guess peacefully protesting after curfew is reason to be swarmed by four guys in riot gear, hit with an assault shield, and mysteriously disappears in seconds - did they forget to read his rights? Oops. Guess he'll get off on a technicality. Unless he randomly dies in police custody.

So after some time of having the feature what does everyone think? Personally I think games fill faster but it seems that more games have NMR than before. I think this is an unfortunate side effect of the upgrade.

Fleet travel through enemy waters
Can a fleet move from Belgium to Holland if another country's fleet occupies the North Sea? The fleet obviously cannot travel by land between the two areas and therefore must leave the harbors in Belgium (entering the North Sea waters) follow the coastline, and enter the Holland harbors (leave the N Sea waters).

Single defense against double assault?
What happens when a defender moves against a support unit attacking his own position? Troop A: land A -> land C; Troop B: land B -> land A; Troop C: land C support land B -> land A (can attack land A); Troop D: land D support hold land A.

Does Troop C support move hold against Troop A?
Does Troop D's support hold apply to a unit (Troop A) with move orders?

Direct clash or pass straight through on opposing moves?
What happens when movement orders occur against each other? Troop A moves from land A to land B and Troop B from land B moves to land A. To make this interesting if they bounce, let's say that Troop C from land C can attack land A and supports the move to land A from land B. All three troops are from different nations.
