We're not who we appear to be: something good, bad, or indifferent?
The anonymity that is inherent in message boards like this and the consequent increased boldness or recklessness with which most of us are apt to behave as compared to how we would behave in our "real" lives leads me to wonder out loud: at what point, if ever, does this presentation of a sort of alternate personality constitute lying? And if it is a form of lying, does it matter?

Hobby Lobby
The US Supreme Court has just (ten minutes ago) upheld Hobby Lobby's right, under religious conscience, not to provide contraception coverage to its employees.

Here's Justice Hypocrite said in a previous case about native American peyote.

"The rule respondents favor would open the prospect of constitutionally required religious exemptions from civic obligations of almost every conceivable kind—ranging from compulsory military service to the payment of taxes to health and safety regulation such as manslaughter and child neglect laws, compulsory vaccination laws, drug laws, and traffic laws; to social welfare legislation such as minimum wage laws, child labor laws, animal cruelty laws, environmental protection laws, and laws providing for equality of opportunity for the races."

You're absolutely right Tony Originalist, that's exactly what this Hobby Lobby case is going to do.

"Putin, what "basic fucking labor law" says companies have to provide birth control to women?"

http://www.ncsl.org/research/health/insurance-coverage-for-contraception-state-laws.aspx

"And what kind of medical reasons are there for birth control, beside to stop pregnancy?"

"government tit-sucking"

Nope. Nice projection. It seems that nobody in the private sector actually does anything and gets paid to scream obscenities on the internet all day.

Chaqa (3971 D(B))

So Putin, not "basic fucking labor law," but rather Obamacare. While it may be law, it's hardly what you argued it is. A bit of hyperbole, eh?
Putin33 (111 D)
30 Jun 14 UTC
Why are you apologizing to Semck? He's been bragging about the shutting down and blocking of health services to women for years now. It fills his religious right soul with absolute glee that women are being run over left and right by his buddies.

Did you see it's state law in 26 states or did that escape your attention?

The point is corporations don't get to opt out of obligations willy nilly. But now the religious exemption is being allowed for everything.

" Did you see it's state law in 26 states or did that escape your attention? "

Ahhhhh ha ha ha ha ha!!! Putin the Assclown can't differentiate between STATE law and FEDERAL law. FEDERAL LAW must follow the Constitution of the United States, which is basically a document that limits powers fo the Federal Government, and tells states they can do whatever they want apart from teh restrictions of the Federal constitution.

You are such a child-like moron, Putin, in your lack of basic understanding of how this country is supposed to work. I truly pity you, assclown.

So what happened to the "Obamacare isn't working" narrative that was so prevalent last year? Is this contraceptive clause all that conservatives have to cling to? What will their next Presidential candidate campaign on if he can't harp on repealing a policy that so far is proving to be a success?
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
30 Jun 14 UTC

Obama said rates wouldn't go up, and they did. I don't think the argument is that Obamacare "isn't working," as in total failure, but rather it isn't working as promised. Our rates went up quite a bit, so forgive me if I'm not a fan.

Mujus / Steephie -- I wonder, have you made similar pleading to that red-ass dance-monkey Putin? when I see you make similar efforts towards him to not attack and insult everyone and everything and every idea anyone presents, and when I see you ask him to - just once - not constantly lie about everything he says - then I will consider your request.

But as long as you want to pick and choose who you think should not behave in a particular way, I will ignore you. :) Thanks for playing.

"Ahhhhh ha ha ha ha ha!!! Putin the Assclown can't differentiate between STATE law and FEDERAL law. FEDERAL LAW must follow the Constitution of the United States, which is basically a document that limits powers fo the Federal Government,"
1) You have no idea what the constitution does. The incorporation doctrine nullified the notion that the constitution only applies to the federal government ages ago. This was settled in the 1920s. Learn some history, jobless troll.
1) That wasn't even the point. The point was to show that basic labor law compelled companies to provide insurance with contraception.

http://www.thewire.com/politics/2014/06/read-justice-ginsburgs-passionate-35-page-dissent-in-the-hobby-lobby-decision/373703/

This trash opinion is utterly gutted by Ginsberg.

"The reason why is hardly obscure. Religious organizations exist to foster the interests of persons subscribing to the same religious faith. Not so of for-profit corporations. Workers who sustain the operations of those corporations commonly are not drawn from one religious community. Indeed, by law, no religion-based criterion can restrict the work force of for-profit corporations...The distinction between a community made up of believers in the same religion and one embracing persons of diverse beliefs, clear as it is, constantly escapes the Court’s attention. One can only wonder why the Court shuts this key difference from sight."

I'm starting to think that Semck is the best and most subtle troll on this forum. He does it perfectly... post a provocative link, let the idiots scream at eachother, and just checks in every now and again to ensure that the conversation hasn't degraded to rational speech.
