So, these are pretty basic questions, and I'm sure they've been asked before, so forgive me for asking them again.

We're not who we appear to be: something good, bad, or indifferent?
The anonymity that is inherent in message boards like this and the consequent increased boldness or recklessness with which most of us are apt to behave as compared to how we would behave in our "real" lives leads me to wonder out loud: at what point, if ever, does this presentation of a sort of alternate personality constitute lying? And if it is a form of lying, does it matter?

Peter Allen and Gwynne Owen - hope you don't rest in peace.

In my opinion hanging was too good for them, maybe the electric chair would have been more fitting.

Need A Replacement For France
I'm looking for an active, respected player to partner with the remaining French player in our Dummy trial game (gameID=143236). If you aren't familiar with this game, each country has 2 players that equally share control (press, moves, etc). Let me know if you're interested.

Ramadan
Anyone else doing this? I was challenged by my Muslim friends at work, damn I'm hungry.

Islam hijacked it from the pagan Arabs and claim the Quran said to do it. It's total bs.

To reiterate, I don't care much for religion either. I'm doing it to try a new experience.
Putin33 (111 D)
30 Jun 14 UTC
Speaking of religion, we should all go blockade the sidewalks of our local churches from now on. After all, buffer zones are illegal.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
@SY - Good for you, man. The best way to understand is through experience. Unlike the homeless plight where only a false understanding can be had because you knowing 30 days you'll be back in you bed, doing this for the entire time your friends do it will give you a bit more understanding. Of courses not being a practitioner will limit some of that, but it will also earn you some measure of added respect in their eyes.

Now, I don't know Islam's view on it, but Christianity is supposed to fast (during Lent) in secret, not making a big deal or pointing out what we give up. But as Ramadan is a set fasting, I suppose that is a bit different.
Putin33 (111 D)
30 Jun 14 UTC
Really you Christians don't have billboards advertising Lent all over the place?

Don't you have work to do, Mr. six figures?
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
Go ahead, Putin. My church has no problem if you wish to legally protest. Remember that the church property is private property so no trespassing and that blocking the drive is still an arreatable offense. Oh and the street we are on has no sidewalks so be careful not to get hit by the cars doing 45 as the come down the hill.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
I'm sitting in the tire shop. Had a blow out Friday, remember? Getting 4 new Michelens put on the car.
Draugnar (0 DX)

And individually, we are to keep our specific sacrifice/fast a secret. That is what the Bible teaches. Doesn't mean everyone does it. But advertising Lenten services is not the same as saying "I gave up such and such for Lent" which is wrong.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
30 Jun 14 UTC
Putin, churches have as much right to advertise on a billboard as anyone else.
Putin33 (111 D)
30 Jun 14 UTC
Sure you are.

"Oh and the street we are on has no sidewalks so be careful not to get hit by the cars doing 45 as the come down the hill."

That must be tough on the old-timers. Figures your church would make it impossible for people without cars to get to.
Putin33 (111 D)
30 Jun 14 UTC
"Putin, churches have as much right to advertise on a billboard as anyone else."

That's not the point. Draugnar was selling this nonsense that Christians don't brag about lent and fasting. Utter nonsense.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
The church is older than the road in it's present state. Two lanes became four and the sidewalls were taken out by the county. Figures you would jump to a moronic conclussion.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
No, I said Christians aren't supposed to state what they are giving up. That would b an "individual sacrifice". People aren't supposed to drive 70 in a 65 zone either, doesn't mean they don't do it.
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Jun 14 UTC
But back to SY. I do commend you for trying this. Hang in there, SY.
Putin33 (111 D)
30 Jun 14 UTC
Figures you would make up information that is convenient at whatever point in time.
Way to go SYNapse. Man, Ramadan in the summer can be brutal from what I understand. depending on where you are it can be a long time from dawn until dusk. that's quite an exercise in self-discipline.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Not derailing this thread too Putin. Go the fuck away.
Kallen (1157 D)

Several of the Nigerian players are doing it, even though they have that match against France in the World Cup. It amazes me how they can still play at such a high level when they can't eat or drink during daylight
You can have water, right?
Kallen (1157 D)
30 Jun 14 UTC
You can't consume water during Ramadan

No water. For a month(?). During a holiday primarily done in desert regions.

Bullshit.
krellin (80 DX)

Chaqa - they can eat after sundown or some crap like that. don't buy into the bullshit.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))

Still, going 12+ hours with no water would kill you on a hot day.

I tried Ramadan once. I lasted four days. In my defense, I was working two jobs at the time that both required moderate levels of physical activity... the fatigue from the caloric deficit and constant thirst was more than I could take.

SYnapse: if you want to 'cheat' when Ramadan occurs in the summer, know that some faqih say you can use the daylight times in Mecca for your fasting rather than your local daylight time.

I tried Ramadan once too...I wasn't fond of the squiggly little noodles, though, and thought it a bit salty...
