Russia to US, West--"Catastrophic Consequences" Should the West Attempt to Intervene
http://news.yahoo.com/russia-warns-catastrophic-consequences-syria-hit-100720291.html In other news, water is still wet and the Mets still suck (why did you have to tear your shoulder ligament, Matt Harvey, why?) but setting aside US/Russia tensions are about as commonplace as anything these days...well, thoughts on the latest developments in Syria? Intervene, don't intervene...?

My mother in law is spending the next week at a flat in that area, on Boswell just east of the British Museum. I passed on the local recommendations from this thread.
@THM - tell her Burger and Shake on Marchmont Street is fantastic. If she likes burgers and shakes, that is. Otherwise, all the good restaurants are on the other side of Tottenham Court Road.

I lived in a shitty flat on the block behind the Russell Square tube station, but only a block off Russell Square itself, so less than a half mile to the British Museum...and also hit the Euston Tap a few times myself.

We stocked up on dries possem (nobody eats skunk anymore) so we'll be set.

No worries guys, you'll be in your castle tonight, eating suckling pig and boiled potatoes, careful with that pochin, it will make your hair curl.
I used to love Kilkenny but not everywhere sells it, and if you like Guinness you'll find it has a slightly different taste than anywhere else in the world.

In Dublin tonight, slummin it in a hostel. Castle Ashford is Monday night. Looking forward to the suckling pig, but not the boiled potatoes. I'll have to ask around about pochin, I've never eard of it

Sorry I spelt it wrong -
Poitín or poteen is a traditional Irish distilled, highly alcoholic beverage (60%-90% ABV).
Poitín was traditionally distilled in a small pot still and the term is a diminutive of the Irish word pota, meaning "pot". It is traditionally distilled from malted barley, grain, potatoes or whey
It is one of the strongest alcoholic beverages in the world, and for centuries was illegal in Ireland

Temple Bar Square was amazing! Thanks again for being my virtual tour guide Nigee!

I saw an Irish read band at one place, and at another there were some drunken likes from Manchester trying to fake an Irish Jig, and this beautiful Irish woman went out impromptu like, and showed them how it was one, to the delight of everyone there. Definitely a proper Dublin experience!

Tonight in the much slower town of Belmullet ... Up Mayo!! To the championships again, hopefully they pull it off this year!

I thought maybe it was Irish reed band like they played some cool reed instrument (an Irish horn of some sort? I don't know).

The tin whistle (or is it thin, can't tell here since they don't do the "th" ting (see what I did there?)) Is the closest thing to that. It's what you hear in all all the trad songs that sounds like a flute.

I just learned that "The Quiet Man" was filmed at castle Ashford, where I'm staying tomorrow night. I remember CF and Draug talking about that movie around st party day. Never a john Wayne fan myself, so I've never seen it, but maybe after this true, I'll check it out on netflix as ill have a point of reference.

I remember many a drunken night at the Temple Bar back in the day, also a great stag weekend in Clairemorris which is up your way in Mayo but not quite as far.
Great memories, I love the Irish :-)

You have to get it via DVD off Netflix.

At Ashford castle. Wow, Fucking amazing! Turns out they have The quiet man available to watch 24-7. Don't know if I want to take the time to watch it hear though. Is rather use a netflix dvd on it. Tomorrow, we're going to walk down to the house that he bought in the movie. Apparently the castle itself isn't in the movie, they just filmed it on the grounds here. The stars all stayed in the castle while filming though.

I also learned that when they were making the movie, they hadn't gotten electricity to this part of Ireland yet. So they ran it from Dublin. Apparently there was a big deal being made about American moviestars coming to town, and they needed to jump through whatever hoops necessary to accommodate them.

Check out where I'm staying at

Criminally liable for not immunizing
There is a debate in the California legislature to make an individual criminally liable for knowingly exposing others to an infectious disease if the individual refused an immunization for that disease. A Canadian case where an idiot infected with measles walked into a hospital newborn nursery.

I am your Moral Guide
In a recent thread about *bad* behavior by Democrats, it was suggested that no goood Lib/Dem was outraged by the racist behavior because I posted the thread...in other words, you judge the word by the light of me. i.e., I am not your moral guide, apparently.

Please feel free to post your moral dilemmas here for my review, or PM me if they are too personal. I will be a kind and just judge.
