jailkeeper sounds pretty cool to me: the jailkeeper both saves and RBs his target.

There's a third party Survivor role that simply wins by surviving to endgame and is neither town nor mafia aligned. I don't like it because it requires you to straddle this really weird line between contributing enough to avoid getting lynched while ducking down to avoid the mafia shooting you and yet somehow also being readable enough to avoid getting vigshot (which is typically what I like to do to lurkers and people who straddle the suspicion line like that).

Jailkeeper and Veteran (different name for the role Vashta's referencing) are wonderful, though. Veteran's kinda overpowered because you claim d1 and then you generally just don't get shot the whole game -- the opportunity cost of making the Veteran killable is pretty steep... even if you're the biggest threat to the mafia it's often better for them to remove the #2 and #3 threats with those two shots instead. I probably wouldn't use a Veteran because in the right hands it's absolutely broken, but I would use a Jailkeeper for sure (and I wouldn't mind seeing a Vet in the games).

Arsonist could work well. Though only one or two of the new roles could be used, and most of them would be replacement rather than additions. I believe Arsonist could definitely help even out the game for the SK (assuming they can still choose copscan or nightkill immunity).

Would we need to inform the mafia? Inform the vet, but let the mafia figure out if he was docsaved or vetsaved. I guess that would defend on balance.

I think we should introduce a cryptographer. Each night he can either read two random messages from the mafia thread (GM can redact names) or initiate anonymous conversation with a player of his choice for the next day.

Cryptographer would be too difficult to pull off. I suppose we could create a specific QT account for the role, and share the username and password for it. Still, it just feels wrong. For veteran (can survive first shot at him), I would suggest he either knows, but can not tell (gets modkilled) until his first life is gone, or nobody knows. The biggest question is should we make him able to survive a lynch if he has not been targeted at night.

You don't need an account to post on QT. Crypto would just have to choose a person and then not necessarily use their username when talking on the QT thread the GM sets up. I think it'd be cool because it has the potential to be very useful, but it'd be difficult to pull off.

You could use the traitor. When mafia shoots him, instead of getting killed, he switches over to the mafia side. I don't know how it would work with sk though. Lynching and vig kills are normal on the traitor.

I still like the bomber role - a mafia member who can sacrifice himself to take out another opponent, and his kill will not be stoppable by doctor save.

Does the traitor know he's the traitor beforehand? I feel like it'd be weird having someone whose motivations are going to change.

I didn't think about that. I would say that he didn't know, but either way would work.

Traitor is usually a town who wins with the mafia. Too much when there is already a third party SK.

Is there going to be a Mafia IV - if so wil the sign ups be here or does someone create a new thread?

There will be an M IV. Typically this thread is used for sign ups I believe, shortly after the previous game. Though we need to decide on a GM soon as I will have VERY limited access to the internet for about a week starting tuesday, and would much like to have at least that decided.

I would play if it started in the next 3, maybe 4 days, but that seems unlikely
