F Sev move to ?
Can a fleet in Sevastopol move along the coast to Bulgaria or Constantinople? Or is it limited to movement into the black sea and Romania?

So I just got my permit today, and I'm wondering what some of your favorite cars are. First cars? Absolutely terrible piece of crap cars? Any cars, but a story to go along with them is appreciated:]

all moves are ready, but the game does not continue
In game 14191 we have all placed our orders, and all have the green ticks to confirm this, but the game is still waiting for the time out before continuing. It's been doing this for quite a few turns by now. What can we do?

What percentage of games have a winner?
I was wondering what the probability was that in any given game you would win. I thought it was just one divided by seven, which gives you 14.285714 repeating %. But then I remembered that games can end in a draw. But I don't know what percentage of games end in a draw, so I couldn't advance further. Without this statistic, we can't say much more than that you have a less than 14% chance of winning.

We'll be using the 1816 rule book, so make sure you read up because the rules changed quite a bit in the last 200 years.

I'll start us off by using the standard Dutch opening (munich to belgium).

Not a big deal except for a 10 day game that was about to run and suddenly we have to wait 10 days again.

I may not have time to reply (but I'll probably be interested in what you all have to say, so I'm sure I'll at least read your comments) but I figured I'd share this essay I just wrote for anyone who wants to read it.

"thus he was pointing out how absurd those privatize is the quickfix solution to all our problems philosophy is." - true on a level, but the absurdity of privatized militrary goes even further.

You would continue to have private security contracts operating beyond the law in certain lawless countries; but if the US didn't have it's own state forces and instead paid private companies every time it wanted to go to war then what would stop the Chinese from hiring these same companies to do the same thing?

In some theory you aleady have the US militrary competing with others for success, it is just not financial success. A demonstration that the world is not as simple as 'privatize everything and let market forces decide' - in fact state power would be completely eroded if private companies ran their own armies; you couldn't enforce taxation if they decided to resist, and they could buy land and declare independance very easily (but perhaps there would be no need to)

Also the 'loyalty' of militrary officers speaks volumes to the fact that some people can hld to higher ideals and not be corrupted by the offer of a bribe. (when they buy into the ideal) - hence it is possible to have no corruption in a Communist system IF the people buy into it (not that i'm advocating a complete communist system, just pointing out the fallacies in some anti-communist arguements)

@Orathaic (and others) - If you get a chance, read David Drake's Hammer's Slammers series. It's Military Sci-Fi written by a Vietnam Vet, but the twist is that the Slammers are mercenaries for hire to any government or corporation that can afford them. It's good stuff and gets into the idea of privatizing armies that we have started talking about.

I did, for some reason, read about Rome having hired mercanaries in the declining days of the empire.... odd that then christianity forced people out of the army and now it's a more progressive humanistic socialism. (maybe christian beliefs have been twisted...)

Still no answer of any substance from The Master Warrior I note.

In a typically "conservative" way, rlumley, you've simplified a complex issue so that your small mind can palate it.

Which rlumley post was he even referring to? It's ages since rlumley added to this thread. Is he making reference to the OP, because that was a couple of weeks ago?
orathaic (1009 D(B))

refering to the op, i think there is a point that suffering has some value; yet i don't envision a world where it is neccesary.

yet there is something between comfort - where you're not motivated to work - and suffering - where you're not motivated to work as part of society.

Hahaha... Yeah. I bailed when you all got off topic. :-P Not thrilled that diplofool stole my thread and made it about how dumb he is. >..<

I just happened to see "rlumley" on my home page, and opened this up.
orathaic (1009 D(B))

so rlumley, have you anything to say, given my pro-communist comments which clearly disagree with your opening?
His OP was rude, mine was truthful. Actually, his was borderline Social Darwinism. That should piss everyone off. If it doesn't, realize that this sort of belief is held by many, and actually shapes public policy!!!

Anyway, the point is, rlumley, and people like him, don't actually care about health care or whatever other topic they are griping about. They just don't want to lose out on extra so that others can't have the basics. Someone up above made a comment about senators needing to use public schools and health care. Yes! That, I think, would go a long way to solving the problem. The other part of the problem, however, is this culture of selfishness born out of malformation of the American Dream (or maybe it is just the AD tainted with "rugged individualism"). Worse yet, (and I am not saying anyone here did or said this) this selfishness is endorsed by the "religious right."

Basically, I think Jesus would kick him in the balls.
Oh, and I don't know how my post got connected to this line and not the one about health care. I go with Machiavelli regarding mercs. Basically, he says it's a really bad idea.

I'm getting lots of them at the moment, and tried to email webmaster about it but the email didn't get through. Is this just happening to me or is the server actually down?
