This is the second time I've noticed this. Has anyone else gotten it?

When there is just one post on the newest page in a thread, my FF4 will not recognize that that page exists until that page has a second post.

Ankara Crescent anyone?
So many threads lately have been dark and angry... How about we all lighten up with a game of Ankara Crescent? Standard map and the '46 revisions, if you don't mind.

Although I know this will devolve into communist/capitalist "debate" (ranting), i just want to know if you think this is an accurate representation of what happened. (with the exception of tetris blocks everywhere)

Which CD is worse: Start, Mid or End Game?
I CDed first thing in a gunboat earlier today. My bad. Thanks to kind.of.slow for wiping me out so that 'Resign' tag on my profile stays at 1. I think the best time to CD is right out of the gates; at least the game can develop without any nasty surprises. I'm curious what the WebDip hive mind has to say on the topic.

Ever wondered why getting people arrested and convicted for war crimes takes so long?
The UN prosecutor for Balkan war crimes speaks outside The Hague about the tribunal staff after the arrest of Ratko Mladic...

"Their efforts are specially impressive given that we are working in the shadow of the tribunal's completion strategy and the resulting lack of job security for our staff"

i've been mulling over this one for quite some time, and i've come to the conclusion that i don't know.

In my opinion, I'd say soccer with it being a creative sport and all.

It depends on you. For instance, an over-weighted person would rather like swimming because in the water is weight isn't such an handicap, and it would spare his joints.

I am over-weighted and still like soccer (to watch and to play twice a week and my joints are very well, thanks, can´t say the same about the adversaries shins.....)

I we talking the best sport for playing or watching? Badminton has to be one of the most fun to play, but is bloody awful to watch.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Sailing or ASA sports car racing for "playing" and F1, ALMS, or Grand Prix for a spectator sport with CART and IRL right behind.

I'm a big fan of horse racing; which is odd, because I really hate horse people.

Curling, it is very much of a mind game, and the physical aspects of it are more demanding then they seam. I don;t know how many recreational curlers there are in other countries as I heard a stat once that 70% of all of the curlers in the world are Canadian.

Or what about Golf. Golf is the most popularly played sports of all sports in Canada [as defined by a survey asking the question - check all sports that you have played in the last year (often played once a year in a company golf tournament)]
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Jun 11 UTC
@joey +1 for curling. I've always wanted to try it, but there are so few clubs in the US and none close to northern KY.
Darwyn (1601 D)
02 Jun 11 UTC
that's easy, it's hockey, hands down. :)

curling? seriously? It's not even that orignial...it's shuffleboard on ice. Hell, you can play "curling" at the bar on those long tables with sand. It can't possibly be the best sport if there are various iterations of it.

Also, I think you can separate individual sports and team sports and get the best from each category. Team sports are very different from individual ones.
Darwyn (1601 D)
02 Jun 11 UTC
Also, if anyone is going to make a serious claim as to what their opinion of the best sport is, they should cite reasons.

Hockey is the best sport because to start, you are skating on ice...this is unnatural and must be learned before you can even play, which means it takes a little bit more dedication. Second, its non stop action...I've watched games that have gone 10+ minutes without a whistle, back and forth. Hockey is one of the only sports that can be exciting without anyone scoring. And third, the blend of physical strength, speed and finesse is unlike any other sport. Guys are skating at 20-30mph, pucks are shot at 100+mph, you are getting constantly beaten down by 200+ lb guys and the split second timing can result in wins or losses.

No other sport brings that much skill into that fast of a game. Period.

"Calvin Ball "

A case can be made for this, yes. :)
JakeBob (100 D)
02 Jun 11 UTC
well i guess it's decided, then. who doesn't love being plowed by 200+lb guys. sounds kinda like sumo wrestling. (which, by the way, has just as much physical strength, speed and finesse.)
Draugnar (0 DX)

To take you rhockey and put it in perspective...

Auto racing, especially ALMS and Grand Prix, requires endurance hours on end runs in excessive heat fighting extreme G-forces and maintaining control of a cra weighing in around a ton or more. It requires split second timing as the cars are moving at 180-200+. And it requires and awareness of your surroundings as one wrong move can send you onto your opponents tire and airborne and upside down in a matter of a moment.
JakeBob (100 D)

and it looks so simple...
Darwyn (1601 D)
02 Jun 11 UTC
lol, Jake...I don't see where I used the word "plowed". Your insinuation is obvious.

I'd like to see sumo wrestler wrestle for 2 hours straight. Also, if you are *required* to be an out of shape fat ass...your case for best sport is silly.

it has to be soccer because soccer is so simple. it's so... human. if you know what i mean. it's so simple it's just one of those things that human beings do, like walk and run.

Or how about Full Contact Ankara Crescent?
Darwyn (1601 D)
02 Jun 11 UTC
I don't mind Auto Racing and will agree that it takes endurance and timing. But it doesn't take strength or speed. Also, I know you cited Grand Prix which is much better than NASCAR. Watching cars drive in a circle isn't all that exciting. It's monotonous..unless there's a crash. Then its exciting.
Darwyn (1601 D)
02 Jun 11 UTC
Basketball is simple too...that doesn't make it great.

Football (soccer for those in the US & Canada) wins hands down.

Simple in concept, minimal in equipment, social games can be played in pretty much any flat space.

At the organised level, no sport so brilliantly combines the team ethos whilst allowing for those single individual moments of brilliance. Every score is vital, but you could only be a matter of seconds from one. It pits attacking flair against resolute defence, has constantly flexing tactics and strategies, and has, of any major sport, the largest chance of an upset (I'd find the study if I had time).

I'll watch pretty much any sport played at a high level, but I'll watch football played at pretty much any level
Draugnar (0 DX)
02 Jun 11 UTC
No strength, Darwyn? You clearly have never driven a car with manual steering at 180+ MPH. Hell, I've tacken my Vette to the track and gone 170+ and trust me, it took strength to keep the wheels turned even *with* power steering as I'd power out of the backside of a turn. Upper body strength is very much a rewuirement. I'd bet Danica Patrick could kick your ass arm wrestling. I know she could kick mine (and I would love it)

"Every score is vital, but you could only be a matter of seconds from one."

No, this is hockey. The field is simply too large to even make the statement that its a "matter of seconds". How about minutes? You can score in a matter of minutes.

"I'd bet Danica Patrick could kick your ass arm wrestling."

lol...well, right. And not to be sexist, but if a girl can do it, how much strength is really required, honestly?
