Ok, I'm a little confused here and any help would be great.
Let's say I have an army in munich and it is ordered to give support. However, someone wants to cut the support and orders a move into munich. If I arrange a standoff by ordering a move into munich from another region does the support move still go through?

I never even heard about this "controversy" until it came time to get my son vaccinated; when I did a little digging I thought it wasn't something to worry about and our pediatrician just rolled his eyes when I brought it up.

That's bad enough. But finding out that the guy who dreamed up the initial study not only falsified his data but did... so in order to try setting up a class action suit and cash in? That's just.... *enraging*

I wonder how many kids have died of measles, mumps, or ruebella over the last decade because the parents were afraid to have them vaccinated?
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

The effect of this paper was to make it impossible for populations to achieve "herd immunity" either (where you have sufficiently many people immune that the disease cannot effectively spread).

Iirc, the journal it was published in had an editors note to the effect that it was bunk, but the press got involved, and in the UK at least it was quite a big story.
warsprite (152 D)

I surpised you have not heard of this before. This false study created an antivaccination movement that involves some Hollywood celebirties, and many parents of kids affected by autism. They have been a thorn in the side of the puplic health agencies and the medical community in general, with there misguided movement. Maybe CDC can give an ideal on number of deaths, but death is only part of the problem caused by these so called childhood illness, conditions as bad as autism can also be a result of not being immunized. I personaly had to repeat first grade after in 1960 I become sick from 3 different ones, and missing to many days of school from those "minor" illnesses.

@warsprite - I knew the research was garbage before; I didn't know it was an out and out falsehood. I'm depressingly used to crappy science.

This is a perfect example of "it takes two to tango."

I remember hearing about this, asking my doctor and other people in the medical field about it and they all said it was a load of BS. So, I ignored it and just scoffed when anyone mentioned it.

A lot of the population, it seems, decided to go into Small Pox-Swine Flu-Mad Cow Disease Panic mode. What this guy did was awful, but it's really everyone else that turned it into what it became.

@stratagos Did not mean to direct fustration at you. I have become a bit sensative about all the bull out there in the medical arena, and the number of otherwise intelligent and educated people who spread it.

There is plenty of proof to show that vaccines do cause harmful effects (miscarriages and even death) in some and also evidence that suggests that more sanitary conditions helped bring disease down, not solely vaccines.

I'm writing off the cuff here and I cannot look up the research right now, but wanted you to know that it exists and that people who shun vaccines have every right to be apprehensive about it.

Here are some facts to digest and/or ponder...

http://www.naturalnews.com/026940_vaccines_vaccination_health.html

• In 1871-2, England, with 98% of the population aged between 2 and 50 vaccinated against smallpox, it experienced its worst ever smallpox outbreak with 45,000 deaths. During the same period in Germany, with a vaccination rate of 96%, there were over 125,000 deaths from smallpox. (http://www.soilandhealth.org/02/020...)
The Hadwen Documents

• In Germany, compulsory mass vaccination against diphtheria commenced in 1940 and by 1945 diphtheria cases were up from 40,000 to 250,000. (Don't Get Stuck, Hannah Allen)

• In 1967, Ghana was declared measles free by the World Health Organisation after 96% of its population was vaccinated. In 1972, Ghana experienced one of its worst measles outbreaks with its highest ever mortality rate. (Dr H Albonico, MMR Vaccine Campaign in Switzerland, March 1990)

• In 1977, Dr Jonas Salk who developed the first polio vaccine, testified along with other scientists, that mass inoculation against polio was the cause of most polio cases throughout the USA since 1961. (Science 4/4/77 "Abstracts" )

• In the UK between 1970 and 1990, over 200,000 cases of whooping cough occurred in fully vaccinated children. (Community Disease Surveillance Centre, UK)

• In the 1970's a tuberculosis vaccine trial in India involving 260,000 people revealed that more cases of TB occurred in the vaccinated than the unvaccinated. (The Lancet 12/1/80 p73)

My point is that the research goes both ways. This man was caught "fixing the facts"...but how many studies in support of vaccines are sponsored by the very pharmaceuticals companies who stand to gain from its sale?

The medical community now seems to shifting from treating the ill to drugging the healthy.

I dont know how many commercials for lawyers I see that state something like "if you've taken Drug B and suffered these symptoms or even death, call us for your free consultation"

The pharmaceutical industry doesn't give a shit about you. It cares about money and they will do anything to get you to buy more of their product.

I'm not stating a case against vaccines, but you guys need to question this a bit more.
Katsarephat (100 D)

@Darwyn: You know what a vaccination is, right? It's a weakened form of a disease pathogen. That is, it has the original pathogen in it. If you have a weakened immune system, yes, you can still be affected by the disease. It's just a matter of vaccinating people intelligently.

Don't start spreading those facts and misrepresent them as absolute truth. You're grasping at best, and outright fearmongering at worst.
Darwyn (1601 D)

• In the USA, the cost of a single DPT shot had risen from 11 cents in 1982 to $11.40 in 1987. The manufacturers of the vaccine were putting aside $8 per shot to cover legal costs and damages they were paying out to parents of brain damaged children and children who died after vaccination. (The Vine, Issue 7, January 1994, Nambour, Qld)

@Darwyn: Here are some facts of my own: I have Asperger's, widely acknowledged as an autism spectrum disorder. I was diagnosed with it very early on, before I had even received any vaccinations. So I don't believe any of this.

I'm sorry to hear of your condition. But that means nothing concerning this discussion.
Katsarephat (100 D)
06 Jan 11 UTC
@Darwyn: You're the one claiming that there is a "cocktail" of other stuff. YOU explain what it is. I don't have to. I don't know what's in it, and I don't care because I have received many vaccinations and had nothing terrible come out of them. There is plenty of evidence of fraud in the science study alluded to in the Washington Post article. I refuse to be baited by your outright fearmongering, which quite frankly is disappointing and insulting.

I'm disgusted.

Raise your game.
Darwyn (1601 D)

Oh and despite claiming that vaccinations are perfectly safe, vaccine manufacturers have been given complete legal immunity.

If I buy a car and it blows up and kills my family due to design error, I can sue the car company. But if you are injected with something and die as a result. You are shit out of luck.
Darwyn (1601 D)

Kats...I will. But I must go now.

I'm sure another forum reader can help me out.
Katsarephat (100 D)

Read even a basic page about Guillian-Barré syndrome and you'll see that it is a disease that has many other potential causes, and that all stimulations of the immune system could bring about its onset. (See e.g., http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/vaccination/gbs_qa.htm)

Try actually reading about the issues and looking for the facts, rather than believing everything you read and trolling about it. You'll find yourself a lot more intelligent, maybe even respected.

"There is plenty of evidence of fraud in the science study alluded to in the Washington Post article."

And what would you call this?

Try reading my posts... I had alluded to that when I talked about Guillian-Barré syndrome, which is the "deadly nerve disease" in question.

I might add that said disease is only rarely deadly, and only rarely found immediately after vaccinations. It's not the plague.
warsprite (152 D)

Darwyn The study the Post refered to was 14 seperate independent studies in the UK. http://www.webmd.com/brain/autism/news/20100913/cdc-study-shows-no-vaccine-autism-link and your saying 20 other independent studies in states are fruads. Name a medical journal that backs your claims. As for the flu vaccine there always was a very small risk it has never been claimed other wise. fewhttp://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/Concerns/Thimerosal/QA_Pediatrics-thimerosal-autism.html.

Darwyn On your little list of alleged failers. In the 1st You're comparing 19th century vaccine technology with todays, 2nd The technology was still not as good as todays, and not enoff vaccine every made it to the general population something to do with with bombings and supply shortages. The population was also immuncompromized due to being in a middle of a war, and most of the healthist where fighting outside of Germany. 3rd Immuncompromised population due to poor diet and/or other conditions. Immunizations procedures in such areas has been reevaluated since that time. 4th People given the oral live vaccine do shed the virus for a short time, but only endangers those who are not immunized(Amish) or immuncompromised drinking or swimming in untreated H2O. 5th 200,000 in 20 years not bad at all, what is that 1 for every couple hundred thousand? A tiny percent for reasons not understood never develop immunity, nothing to do with the vaccine. 6th Do you understand the meaning of trial? That is why they do trials to see if it is going to work in the general population as well as it did the lab, it was discontinued because it failed.

Darwyn is well known here for his quarter-baked theories.

Go ahead. Refuse vaccinations. Get mumps. I hear that really sucked.

The rest of us will disregard the blatantly falsified research and be healthy.

And as far as Darwyn's "sources" go.... naturalnews also advocates homeopathic treatments, which is roughly as effective as daubing mud on the underside of your tongue and expecting your cancer to go away.
