mapleleaf, not sure why I keep trying with you, perhaps merely to bump this thread... But, I am short on time, have other things to do, so I'll respond to you as I have time and/or feel like it. Feel free to respond to what I say rather than ignore it and repeat your old arguments that don't hold water.
First of all, your Canadian dictionary.com is different than the one here in Oregon. When I type in charity, this is what I get for definitions:
1. generous actions or donations to aid the poor, ill, or helpless: to devote one's life to charity.
2. something given to a person or persons in need; alms: She asked for work, not charity.
3. a charitable act or work.
4. a charitable fund, foundation, or institution: He left his estate to a charity.
5. benevolent feeling, esp. toward those in need or in disfavor: She looked so poor that we fed her out of charity.
6. leniency in judging others; forbearance: She was inclined to view our selfish behavior with charity.
7. Christian love; agape.
So, to answer your bold-typed question, I left the example of charity out because the example of "to devote one's life to charity" didn't really add much to the definition. Once you got all hot and bothered by me leaving the example out, I then posted the example and, since you seem more focused on the example than the actual definition, I asked something about if you'd devote your life to this website and/or Kestas, and you did not respond. So, in summary, I did respond to your question while you did not respond to mine AND you were an ass even when I did respond.
HOW IS DONATING TO WEBDIP AIDING THE POOR, ILL OR HELPLESS?
HOW IS DONATING TO WEBDIP GIVING TO PERSONS IN NEED?
Sure, you can joke around about young college kids being poor, or software developers that aren't making money because their website is free being poor and/or in need, but that is not what the definition is referencing, though I am concerned about you being able to make the distinction. Oh well, a bump is a bump is a bump.
Damn this stupid cloud-cover, hope it burns off soon...
