This Time On Philosophy Weekly: Nothing is Certain But Death, Taxes, and Obi's Postings
"How we deal with death is at least as important as how we deal with life" -the great philosopher James T. Kirk
Popular culture, art, philosophy, and religion all deal with death a lot, from Spock's death and rebirth to the life of Jesus to Poe to Plato's "Phaedo" to Hamlet. But what is death? Is it by nature good, bad, or indifferent? What is a good life, or death? Is there an afterlife? Hamlet called death The Undiscovered Country- what's this most Final Frontier like?

Just curious. Does anyone know how long it takes for the mods to usually check on a game when cheating of some kind is alleged? Thanks in advance!

So, Who'll Be The 45th President?
Yes We Can...give it another shot electing a leader in 2012. Now, for the record, this thread is NOT an Obama-bashing thread. This is not an invitation to slap around Obama, or Democrats, or Republicans. Obama's, simply put, a lame duck. I think he's a nice guy and really did want to help the country- he has failed. He's been utterly ineffective, and as of now I can't see him re-elected in 2012. So, who would you vote for, and who will win? (I say Colbert/Stewart in 2012!) ;)

CDs in stats page.
Heyho.

A small change to implement that would make me quite happy: stats displaying the number of times a player has CDed overall and, say, in the last three months displaying with the other stats on a users' page. Can't be that hard to implement, eh?

Was this a prompt that I was supposed to fill in with all my numerous crimes against the webdip elite? You'll get no such apology from me! :P
In the past, I've used this Forum to vent my (usually radical) political views on the users of this forum (who are usually left-leaning college students) (that may be an unfair generalization). I'm sorry I wasted everyone's time with my incessant trolling. Most of you will be happy to know that my political views have stabilized and moved to right-of-center:

Gay marriage should be up to the states (Marriage laws are not the business of the federal government)

We should give tax cuts to companies that employ Americans, and raise taxes for corporations that send jobs overseas. We should also cut taxes for small businesses and give tax credits to citizens who buy American-made goods.

Abortion, except in the event of rape or incest, is wrong.

Sex education should start at the 6th grade level and should be abstinence-based (tell kids about contraceptives, but strongly encourage them to abstain for sex. (i.e. "Don't have sex, but if you decide to, use these...)

Illegal immigration is just that: illegal. Think of Mexico and America as two rooms in the same house. The wall between the two rooms should be impenetrable, but the door hinges should be well oiled.

That's all the issues I can think of. If you want to know my opinion on another, just ask.
krellin (80 DX)
24 Jul 10 UTC
What is wrong with your opinions? Sounds like a lot of good old fashion common sense to me...nothing to apologize for there. (Except maybe your exception...)
krellin (80 DX)
24 Jul 10 UTC
How truly and utterly sad that you would even consider that your views are "radical". In truth, your views reflect a majority of the voting public in this country. You *feel* like your views are "radical" because the leftists are usually so loud, belligerent and insulting when anyone disagrees with them, despite the fact that history shows the leftist ideology to generally be a failure when put in to practice.

No - you have **nothing** to apologize for, my man. If anyone should apologize it is the "open minded" leftists that tend to be so insulting to differing opinion that they have made you feel this way. What a sad commentary...

Option 1:
Translation: My left wing trolling isn't getting sufficient attention, so I'll try right wing trolling

Option 2:
I'm so narcissistic I need everything to be about me; therefore I'll post *whatever it takes* to get a response. Look at me look at me LOOK AT ME!

**

Well, you got your 15 seconds of attention from me for this quarter, try again in September and I may be willing to call you a jackass again
krellin (80 DX)
24 Jul 10 UTC
And there you have it...the insults begin....standard operating procedure. As if *anyone* who posts their blowhard nonsense on these forums isn't narcissistic. "Oh...everyone! Look at Stratagos!!! Didn't he just make a brilliant observation?? Oh my! BRAVO Stratagos! Bravo, you smarty smart pants, you!" <yawn...>
warsprite (152 D)

I'll go with 2. Some of his trolling is often just nonsense.
largeham (149 D)

Wow krellin, such hypocrisy. Seeing you call out someone else for being loud, obnoxious (in your defence, you also admitted to it, as do I), belligerent, and insulting is hilarious.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
24 Jul 10 UTC
yo krellin, the views he outlined are not radical.

he is outlining his new, more moderate views.

what he argued for before was total bullshit, and he was apologizing for that crock of shit. that's all.
I believe in gay domestic partnership. The government should recognize gay domestic partnership. And under law, marriage should be changed to domestic partnership. Marriage is a religious thing and should not be refereed to under law.

Amon... I was thinking the EXACT same thing...

Well, I used to be a constitutionalist, the most radical type of Libertarian.

@ krellin: My views are consistent with many Americans, but I still consider myself to be right-of-center. I don't think the political spectrum is skewed to the left's favor.
@ krellin- Don't defend me. Any intelligent criticism is probably deserved.
Government shouldn't be involved in marriage at all. That would fix the whole gay marriage issue altogether.
largeham (149 D)
25 Jul 10 UTC
Or, better yet, remove the entire concept of marriage.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

@ Dumbasspinkelephant: "under law, marriage should be changed to domestic partnership. Marriage is a religious thing and should not be refereed to under law."

I completely agree with this view. Marriage is outdated in my view. If people want marriage, that's fine. But all loving relationships should be entitled to recognition.
@ TGM: Yeah I was
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
25 Jul 10 UTC
Not when you were posting on this forum. Nationalism and libertarianism don't go well together.

tbh, it is a common phenomenon accross the pond atm, for conservatives to call themselves libertarians.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
25 Jul 10 UTC
across*
Constitutionalism is pretty much nationalist libertarianism (i.e. the government's one and only job is to protect its citizens from attack)
Jack_Klein (897 D)
26 Jul 10 UTC
Constitutionalism is most definitely not nationalist libertarianism.

I consider myself a constitutionalist, but I'm also a leftist. (Freedom and fairness, kids. Thats what its all about).

The claim that one particular faction or another is more "constitutional" than another is just an attempt to portray one group as more legitimate than another. Basically, its the same thing as calling Obama a "National Socialist". Smear tactics, friends.

And its crap.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
26 Jul 10 UTC
You didn't believe in free movement of people, and were willing to have a draft. That is not libertarian.
I stand corrected. No matter the label, I'm against big government, but I'm in favor of a big military.

And I'm in favor of a draft during periods of declared war ( not "police action"). I wish we would be more liberal about declaring war (i.e. declare war on the Taliban, so we could promote generals to five-star, make the DoD the DoW, and reinstate the draft)
largeham (149 D)
27 Jul 10 UTC
Big military=big government, unless you want state-funded mercenaries running around, which will still mean big government because they will need the money to fund them. The DoD is the DoW, just a nicer name.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
27 Jul 10 UTC
To be fair on TMW, the burden of government from a large military is very small. Under Thatcher, government spending increased, however the burden of government went down.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
27 Jul 10 UTC
Ugh. Thatcher. Britain's worst ever Prime Minister.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
