Minor Bug Report
When changing a move order that had a "via land" clause, to a support move order, the drop down for the "via" clauses persisted, bring a messagebox regarding "What did you just update?" I just set to hold and updated to clear it. Not a significant issue., but thought you might want to know.

I've been on the forum for quite a while and i noticed that even when 90+ people are logged the forum isn't really active.

Support Moves
Is anyone else having trouble supporting convoys? I have an ally who is trying to support a convoy move and he says it's not giving him the option. I tested this in one of my games to see if the option would come up, and it's not giving me the option to either.

Any of you able to support a convoy move (not convoy, but support the army from one land to the new land)?

Largest Online Diplomacy Site
I am curious to know who the most popular.

That is, who would be the most popular.

The contenders would be the following:
webdiplomacy.net
playdiplomacy.com
worldleadersthegame.com
dipbounced.com
stabbeurfou.org
Are there any other significant sites? (facebook I suppose is a big one)

According to Alexa.com webiplomacy had the most visitors over the past week, but playdiplomacy has the higher 3 month average.
World leaders was a distant 3rd, dipbounced an even more distant 4th, and Alexa did not recognize stabberfou's url
I have looked at these other sites but never played a game on any of them. (I probably should try them out).
Interestingly according to Alexa 37.4% of webdiplomacy's visitors come from Germany, with the United States (the next most prominent) making up only 13.9%).
I suspect Alexa is not very accurate for small sites.

That data is a bit old though.
spyman (424 D(G))

alexa.com is supposed to be quite accurate with sites that enter the top 150.000 (sites that actually have a graph to display). Yet I can't really believe that 37% are Germans, neither that 12% are Greek. Ffs I'm sure I'm the only Greek in here.
Other than that the traffic rank charts seem accurate. I have tested alexa charts on small much smaller sites I've made in the past and I know they are working. So here is the traffic reach for the last 3 months (Percent of global Internet users who visit the site):

webdiplomacy.net: 0,00034%
playdiplomacy.com: 0,00046%
worldleadersthegame.com, 000096%
the rest rank worse that my personal website...

So playdiplomacy is supposed to be webdiplomacy x 1.5 and worldleaders 3.5 times lower than webdiplomacy
I can't really understand that since I've played a while in playdiplomacy.com and the interface just sucks.
Worldleaders feature interesting variants but communication interface is even worse that playdiplomacy.

Did you collect that yourself? You can view at the botttom of the screen info such as number of people online and active games..
When I looked tonight playdip had the higher membership and active games but not as many online (7 vs 35).
I suspect that because playdip is ranked higher on google that it gets a lot of people who join for one game and then decide it is not for them.
spyman (424 D(G))

hellalt do you have alexa installed? If so I suspect that you are the 12% Greek. lol

If you don't then it is not you.
It might well be that lots of germans play here but don't talk on the forum. Perhaps?

Actually it is possible that you have alexa installed but don't realize it. Spybot always flags it if you do. I have had it before. (Although it is harmless).

At any rate webdip, facbook dip and play dip are all based on Kestas's code. Thus he is the king of online diplomacy. What a legend!
I'm pretty sure the stats Ghostmaker posted were from a site that was run by the playdip folks (although I've misplaced the URL). I'm about 99% sure it was a search engine trick more than anything, and if I remember right the stats are from around summer 2008.

I played on World Leaders for awhile, but two things annoyed me greatly. EVERY turn plays to full turn length (there is no equivalent to webDip's "finalize") and there is nothing to show you the moves that were ordered. The end result is that every turn feels like it exists in a vacuum. Also the UI is a little counter-intuitive at times (convoys for example).

Playdip is just too ugly for words.

I played on bounced back when it first opened up, but at the time I still was able to put together the occasional F2F game, and considered PBEM the best substitute since it "felt" the most like F2F to me (although modern web-based dips are much more like F2F now).

Remember that up until a few weeks ago, this was primarily phpDiplmacy and those stats wouldn't be included under webDiplomacy in Alexa. Give it six months to balance out and you'll see better stats for here.

@Spyman

I've tried it today, but it sucks ;S
I can't join a game, it keeps saying premiums only.
Finally joined one, but you can't see what game is for freemiums too.

I also tried to find the maps or screenshots posted somewhere, to make it easier, but I couldn't find them anywhere.

This site is much easier, more fun, a better community, and I love this place ;D
I'm not going to continue exploring Playdiplomacy!

I agree that Playdip sucks.

World leaders however is quite a good site. Ninja: maybe you played back when the site was new, but as long as I've been playing, you have the option to choose games where you can lock orders or they're timed like you say. There is also an option to "view all orders" on the board or written. As for the UI, I think its simpler than on this site in some ways at least. I think Kestas mentioned making changing to something similar, a point and click interface.

My biggest problem with World Leaders, is that there is an extreme lack of communication compared to this site. The point system also needs refinement, which they are planning to change. World Leaders doesn't have the same quality and skill in players. After all, I have a win loss ratio of nearly 40%, which would be extremely hard here.

order of perferred sites for me would be

Worldleaders
game.xbsd.kr-eng dip

playdiplomacy

Alexa Traffic Rank:
www.playdiplomacy.com: 170,745
webdiplomacy.com: 247,770
www.phpdiplomacy.net: 330,594
www.worldleadersthegame.com: 692,512
www.stabbeurfou.org: 3,407,004
www.dipbounced.com: 6,656,449
dip.xbsd.kr: (roll your eyes) "No data" (I wonder why?)

But fear not! The URL switch did much harm to the ranking, and Alexa's graphs show webDiplimacy the most popular.
Ghost, finally remembered the URL... Turns out the numbers weren't as similar as I thought, not that it matters.

12% Greek seems way too high, but I wouldn't be too shocked by the idea that there are alot of Germans on this site. From what I understand this site is pretty popular among many English-speaking Europeans, and probably 90% of Germans who would play Diplomacy online would have excellent English.

What is the rest of the breakdown trafficking-wise?

I just tried to send that message using Chrome, but it wouldn't go through. So I sent it via Firefox, with no problem. After that I tried to send one more message with Chrome but to no avail. This message is from Firefox. Very odd.
