Small Problem....
Hey, I've noticed that in my games, some players' enter moves and I can't know if they had...like, you know how there's the green check to show that you entered moves and a red "x" that show that you didn't? Some of the time they seem to be inaccurate.

Deleting Sent Messages
Can this feature be added? Say the recipient of the message you send is not logged on and looking, can it be redacted? The reason I ask is because if I were to divulge information that I wasn't supposed to, I can't just take it back.

Granted, in real life, you can't redact what you say. However, using appropriate body language and explanations - you might be able to weasel out of a bad situation, which you can't do here on phpDiplomacy...

People who know they are about to be stabbed but let it happen anyway.
What should be done with these people?

Or is their subsequent misfortune punishment enough?

Hi, my name is Jason, and...
I'm addicted to diplomacy *hangs head in shame* :)

I suppose work has something to do with it, but seriously, when you are checking for that little message icon every 5-10 minutes on your computer, 'just in case'? Or you can look it up on your phone...

North Korean Nuclear Test
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8066861.stm

What do people think will happen? As the correspondent says, there don't seem to be any options left short of war...

i really dont think it will lead to war, NK is just pushing for more money and better terms of trade. they don't want war (but would probably opt for it if pushed into a real tight corner by the US,SK and Japan). NK knows that to get attention and aid in the past it has had to conduct N-tests/exercises/missile tests, sadly these things work with the US who aren't willing (able?, thats another debatable point) to confront the issue militarily. China wants the North to slowly change and adapt but it isnt willing to risk the North collapsing, spilling thousands of refugees over the border and putting a US allied South in charge of the whole peninsula, so China will keep slowly prodding the North to change slowly while stopping the Ss,SK and Japs from enforcing any crippling sanctions.

I hope it does lead to war. The people of that country need to be rescued, and are too oppressed to revolt.
diplomat1824 (0 DX)
25 May 09 UTC
Interesting. I think that the US doesn't militarily care unless the North goes South, which would probably lead to nuclear war.
sean (3490 D(B))

The US will not use Nuclear weapons in north korea. SK. China and Japan will worry about fallout and more importantly SK will go nuts. NK would use Nuclear weapons if they thought that it was that or a UN war crimes tribunal but im sure China would offer the top echelon a comfy retirement and protect them.

somebody has to bitchslap north korea.

not that I am really looking forward to a war, but if they keep on their shenanigans and all they receive is "my my, bad boy, don't do that again, will you" they are not going to listen

the USA inva.. liberated countries where the people had FAR more human rights, and did so after little to no provocation

now the country with the leas civil and human rights keeps LITERALY pissing and shitting on every international agreement, not because these agreements are bad for north korea, but only because of pity defiance.

Sure, they don't have any oil, so the USA has no real reason to attack them, but still, attacking iraq rather than NK is simply hypocritical

There's also the fact that North Korea has millions of fanatically indoctrinated soldiers. A war there would be extremely costly if it was even winnable at all. Any victory would most likely result in the devastation of the country due to the strength of resistance.
Submariner (111 D)
25 May 09 UTC
Having visited the country last year I didn't see millions of fanatically motivated soldiers so much as aphysically starved and psychologically traumatized and exhausted nation. I don't think invasion is an answer... The Nlrth Korean populace just doesn't deserve it.
Hereward77 (930 D)
25 May 09 UTC
Fair point, but I'd imagine you would have been unlikely to see enough to really assess the military readiness of the population. Now that I think about it though, nobody really knows except high level security agencies and the North Koreans themselves.

How do you plan to improve their lot without physically ousting the current ruler?
Thucydides (864 D(B))

I don't think it will lead to war but... it really should. A country that screwed up can only be freed by war or revolution.

u think china and russia will keep quiet, if usa ,as usuall ,invades it? it iwll be 3rd world war for sure. iran will also ally north korea. as its going to test its own nukes soon.
KingTigerTank (100 D)
25 May 09 UTC
btw tha scientist of pakistank, AQ khan is the one who gave secrets to north koera, of nuke tech, and AQ khan was taught nuke sceince by the west. so if north korea has got nukes, its due to western education who haev made education public property.
only deserving should be taught scienes like nuclear tech.
even in anceitn india we had nukes. but they never gave tech to all.
Hereward77 (930 D)
25 May 09 UTC
What's 'anceitn India'? If you mean 'ancient India' then they most certainly didn't have nuclear weapons. That's not what you meant is it?
KingTigerTank (100 D)
25 May 09 UTC
how u know we didnt have?
our scripts have mentioned use of brahmastra. which is nucler bomb.
first fo all do u know the real name of india?
if u dont know the name, forget urself knowing its past.
and sorry for the typo 'anceitn India'
Hereward77 (930 D)
25 May 09 UTC
Wait. So you're claiming that ancient India (by which I take to mean India several thousand years ago) possessed nuclear weapons? Not knowing the native name of a country doesn't dismiss me from knowing anything about it's history. I can't speak Greek and I don't know it's precise name in Greek but I know a lot of it's history. Do you know anything about 'nucler bomb's? If you can't spell it forget knowing anything about it, to use your logic.

'Our' scripts? Whose scripts? Indians? As far as I was aware India has dozens of religions.

Off the point guys!
China is key to the future of NK. Ideally they would invade and enforce regime change!
And To all Those who are arguing that an invasion is the easy option, have you already forgotten the lessons of Iraq?
Hereward77 (930 D)
25 May 09 UTC
It is off the point. I'm just incredulous at the claims KingTiger seems to be making.

Iraq was one invasion. That doesn't mean ALL invasions are useless.
Submariner (111 D)
25 May 09 UTC
I'm terms of preparedness of the NK population... I don't know. They are so thin. The army guys uniforms are just hanging off them. Also, even considering that only party loyalists are allowed to live in Pyongyang, even they were having to fish in the river for tiny fish for food and were pressing every last inch of spare land such as roundabout middles into Agricultural production. The biggest worry about invading the north is not necessarilly the resistance but more the amount of artillery they have aimed at Seoul... A city of 20mollion people within range of the border...
Hereward77 (930 D)
25 May 09 UTC
I knew there were food problems but damn. The picture you paint doesn't sound sustainable. There must be enough food to keep the population alive?
Invictus (240 D)
25 May 09 UTC
The artillery aimed at Seoul is a big worry, as is the North Korean army itself, weak though they are. I think the biggest problem that could come from North Korea daring the world into Korean War II is what happens when North Korea loses.

If you thought German reunification and the Reconstruction of Iraq were costly, imagine trying to integrate a borderline medieval country like North Korea into the highly developed South. This is bad news for everybody.

Good luck, President Obama.

Not at all Hereward... Ironically in the DMZ we drove past people sitting by the roadside who were sat on empty USAid food sacks!
Hereward77 (930 D)
25 May 09 UTC
What's the cause for the lack of food? I mean do they not have the capability to produce enough food for themselves? Not enough arable land?
alamothe (3367 D(B))

north korea is a fine nation. they should be allowed to test their nuclear weapons
Invictus (240 D)
26 May 09 UTC
That's a joke, right alamothe?
alamothe (3367 D(B))

the test was underground thus not much damage was done to the environment

Thucydides (864 D(B))
26 May 09 UTC
"And To all Those who are arguing that an invasion is the easy option, have you already forgotten the lessons of Iraq? "

There are no Muslim extremists in North Korea so I don't think it would be as problematic with regards to insurgencies. The new government might be weak or something but at least there would be no violence once formal hositilities ceased.
alamothe (3367 D(B))
26 May 09 UTC
yeah, except some radiation :-)
alamothe (3367 D(B))
26 May 09 UTC
my point is, threatening to invade a peaceful nation makes them develop nuclear weapons. it's a vicious circle
Invictus (240 D)
26 May 09 UTC
The international objection isn't to environmental damage, alamothe. It's from North Korea aggressively testing nuclear weapons and daring the world to do anything besides issue meaningless sanctions. The fact that North Korea possesses these weapons puts more risk to the environment than anything else on the planet. There's a real possibility of a nuclear exchange here.

To Thucydides, since when do Muslim extremists have a monopoly on insurgencies? Even barring a kooky commie remnant guerrilla war, the humanitarian crisis after the North Korean state has been defeated has the potential to be one of the worst in history.
