Oh, I did know about the shooting. From what I've read it was a horrible act, but rioting doesn't help anything.

First I've heard of it too. I wonder why it hasn't had more coverage. I mean it's on CNN sure, but this should be heading every newscast in the country.

I think Sicarius has more fun when he's trying to convince us that his point of view that cops are scumbags is the right point of view, while we all argue about it.

well I certainly agree that it was an awful action. I just wish they could give law and order a chance before smashing up people's stuff. I'm fairly confident that this guy is going to be convicted.

It was certainly murder in my opinion, but that didn't justify the riots of course.

I think this one is pretty straightforward. The hogwash about him thinking it was the taser and not the gun... its just that, hogwash.

Of course, I have to say to the Sicarius' out there - this doesn't mean all cops are bad at all, just this one. Nor does it mean anything about policing should be changed except maybe stricter rules about use of their firearms.

I live in the East Bay area, I work daily in Oakland and drive past the Bart Station in question every day.

Many people have commented that the stunned look on all the cops looks when the gun was fired (including the shooter) seems to indicate that what we are dealing with here is negiligent homicide.

The Rioting is a disgrace and an unacceptable excuse for misbehavior.

The police and the criminals and the rioters and the shop owners etc are all us. There is no them here, only U.S.
So far as we know now, this is looking like a horrible accident. One which will have horrible consequences for the parties involved on both sides.
As a people, we have worked very very hard to move the society to a point where we have some hope and faith in resolving this through a process that we call the system. There have been errors made, there will be more to follow, however, there will be adjustments, corrections if you wish to call it, we have to have faith in ourselves and then go forth and live up to that faith.
Misdirected anger, hate, destruction and blind reactions do not contribute to an acceptable resolution.

The riots make no sense. I heard a rumor that it turned violent because of some thugs dressed all in black were shipped in from elsewhere with the purpose of inciting violence. Are these anarchists? Sic, maybe you know more about these guys? Anyway, rioting in the face of a murder simply lowers everyone and shows that they'd rather tumble about in the pig-pen than grow up, take responsibility, and have a sense of humanity. I live in Oakland, too, but I didn't see any of this.
