Can a fleet in the south of Spain move to Portugal? Can it support an invasion of Portugal from the Mid Atlantic? Thanks.

Interstellar
I really liked this movie. Of course, the expository sections, wherein astronauts were reminded that light can't escape black holes, were goofy. But I thought it managed to treat ideas like the brevity of human life very effectively, and provocatively. I'm going to be thinking about the movie for a long time. What did you guys think of it?

Interest in Tournaments (no promises)
There hasn't been many non-gunboat (or player-sponsored) tournaments lately. This thread is to gauge the interest in the site of bringing back any of the following tournaments: The World Cup, The Masters, The Leagues. The GFDT is abge's thing, so I won't ask on that.

Protestor Facing 9 Counts of Assaulting Police for Fake Blood
http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/occupy-wall-street-protester-busted-nypd-boss-paint-job-article-1.2022996

What the article for whatever reason fails to mention is that he is apparently facing 225 years... for... fake blood on a guy in a suit... yeah, okay... that makes sense.

I don't think they should ban him, per se.

Let him say his piece, and shout the fool down. Free speech works both ways.

Is it a private university? If it is, free speech is nonexistent.

The University of East London is a public university, bo.

Then banning him seems extreme, I wouldn't give him a platform to spread hate at the university. Not give him a stage, essentially.

England has very different laws than the United States does in regards to free speech, especially in regards to religious hate speech

This guy has beliefs, and he is allowed to express them but the university has every right to not let him express those beliefs on school grounds.

Banning is too good for him I think.
The older I get I continue to be staggered and saddened by how many people in this world continue to be so ignorant and intolerant, often thanks to religious teaching based on bizarre unreal beliefs. Grow up people!
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
24 Nov 14 UTC
@ Kofi666: What is your complaint, specifically? The thread title draws attention to the homophobic hatred being spread by this 'preacher'. It is clear from the OP, I think, that I was not endorsing those views - far from it.

Yuck, what an asshole Mr. Erdogan is.

Of course, by Kofi's logic, there's no need to discuss that, as most people would agree that he is an asshole.

“Muslims don’t in any way shape or form have a problem with homosexuals, there’s nothing within our religion that specifically tells us that we should be mean to homosexuals, that we shouldn’t allow them to enter into our cities, or come and pray with us, in fact a man who has homosexual inclinations can lead Muslims in prayer and be an imam in a mosque.”

It was acting upon the inclinations which Islam condemned, he said. UEL Islamic Society declined to comment."

From the article itself. As a Christian, I mostly agree with him. Christianity teaches that homosexual it is a sin, and, like all sins, is wretched in the sight of God. I have seen numerous universities allow religions onto campus that teach all manner of things, but will ban other religions that choose to teach doctrine tjat the university leaders disagree with. It's a form of hypocrisy, dictatorial, and prohibits the views of at least half of the world. I'm not Islamic, but I can empathize where he's coming from, especially when a university will grant classes in religion and religious studies to bar various views and beliefs simply because university heads disagree with them.

"Is it a private university? If it is, free speech is nonexistent."

Ah, the old free-speech-is-only-for-the-government fallacy. Just because only the government is *legally required* to allow free speech does not mean that it isn't an important value that should be promoted by private institutions as well. In particular, any university worthy of the name should treasure it.

They are all for free speech, as long as it is the speech they have *dictated* to you...

"You continue to preach the idea that the fact that you follow a certain religion gives you the right to tread on other people's lifestyles."

Ouch .... after the recent massacres and humanitarian crisis in Gaza I can't agree more but when it is state sponsored and financed from abroad how do you stop it.
There are still people that think what Israel did was in some way justifiable in international law...

I think it's terrible that we live in a society that claims to be liberal and enlightened and at the same time seriously entertains banning people from presenting at universities based on the content of their message.

Imran ibn Mansur is a bit of a dickhead, a chancer ..... on that basis alone there is no reason why an educational establishment with a reputation to uphold should entertain this guy. It is true there are still a lot of anti-gays but they are also dickheads.
krellin (80 DX)
25 Nov 14 UTC
PE.....your mistake is mixing "liberal" and "enlightened" as if they somehow go hand in hand.

There are plenty in our society that have been warning you against this wing of politics for years. They have been spat upon and shat upon and told to shut up....and with every conservative dissenting voice that was quieted, the rapacious liberals with their "enlightened" ideology have gained power. And every inch of power they have gained has meant what? Another person with a differnt viewpoint thrown out of a job, forced to close a business, castigated in public for having a different view on a point of morality.

I'm laughing my ass off at all the fools around here feigning indignation because the attack dog they raised is biting them in the ass

Hey Jamiet,

I'd like to respectfully request that in the future you use a less disgusting title. While your intent was to demonstrate a vile link you are in fact giving the impression to those who casually glance over the thread that you are supporting this issue, and that it is a thread condemning homosexuality.

Even though you don't hold that opinion you are posting a rather disgusting opinion someone else holds. I hope you see how that could cause issues for any homosexual members we have.

Thanks

Seeking Cliche's : Powered Armor
Fellow Webdipstanians...perhaps you saw my earlier teaser thread..."Armor" Perhaps not. Anyway, instead of November write a novel in a month, I"m going to do December (10 days off around Christmas...best month for this plan). My novel -- a "Powered Armor" sci-fi schtick. Humorous take on the powered warrior fighting a pointless war.

Back again, need players
I used to be an active member, but haven't played in over a year. My brother is visiting for thanksgiving and wants to play. It would be great if we could get some players to join us. He played the board game many many years ago, so he's familiar with the game but is new to online play.

2014 Webdiplomacy Tournament Round 2
Looking for feedback. Ultimately there are two options: starting in a few weeks with the next round's games being setup Saturday, December 6, or waiting until after the holidays. I'm not sure how many are traveling, and I'd hate to see a mass-produced for the end of December, but I would also hate to delay the next round as this one is coming to a close. Thoughts?

Given My Name, Seems Only Fair *I* Should Post This...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMOVFvcNfvE I haven't seen these movies in years--I stopped being a fan about the time I joined this site...and gave myself this name, lol--but THAT looks pretty cool. A couple odd things in there, but hey...X-Wings and Tie Fighters again, instead of Whateverplanes from the prequels. Now J.J. Abrams just needs the Millennium Falcon to team up with the USS Enterprise! ;) Thoughts, sci-fi people, on the new Star Wars trailer?

Apple Question
Some of you are techy people, might you be able to help me out?

Apparently my Apple ID is locked because I don't know the answers to my security questions (well, I think I do, but they are apparently wrong) and my rescue email is disabled since I graduated from my high school. Since then, I get notification after notification informing me that I can't access the cloud and now my texts aren't sending. Is this all because of my ID security questions or is something else going on?
