Bird with Beard wins Eurovision Song Contest
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-27360310

People just can't be bothered to shave anymore, even for big events like the Eurovision Song Contest, I didn't think the song was that good but the beard I would give top marks.
Well done Austria, I'm sure the right-wingers are outraged by this so every cloud .....

32000 signatories to this petition.

According to the US Dept of Ed, there have been over 10 million qualified graduates in the fields given in the petition as being "areas of expertise" for climate change.

0.3% of qualified individuals disagree with this settled science. Sounds like an appropriate margin of error to me.

Here's another related survey:

http://iopscience.iop.org/1748-9326/8/2/024024/article

Their conclusion is that 97% of US climate researchers concur on the science behind global warming.

Krellin do you disagree with global warming? Or just the fact that its caused by humans?

You realize that link showing the degrees of signers is completely useless, right? Getting a BS in some random science field doesn't give you carte blanche to be an expert on any field of science ever. How many of these signers are actually actively doing peer-reviewed research on the climate?

I don't know why people on the right hold out to the petty and false view that global warming is fake. Its probably real given how certain scientists are on it.

I prefer taking the David Friedman approach to the global warming debate. While warming is happening, its not a bad thing:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-yJ3K9fNos

The problem with all the climate scientists reports, is they look solely at the negatives associated with climate change, while I'm not going to claim that global warming's benefits outweigh its costs, I'm pretty comfortable in saying that we don't truly know if planet will be better cold or hot for us and its other inhabitants.

if you disagree that global warming is manmade, fine.
if you disagree with global warming, fine.

in both cases, i will assume you don't know how to read or interpret data, but whatever.

but what on earth would lead anybody to tell that there's no consensus?

I mean, you can go to the library and get pictures of greenland from 1900 and now, if you don't believe global warming is occurring.

I wonder if krellin's proctologist signed.
Careful using the changing landscape of Greenland to prove the effects of global warming. It's happened before, long before the industrial revolution.

What I hate most about the global warming debate is what I hate most about any common sense vs ignorant-thinkers debates....you have to be so careful that the evidence that you put forth is not only accurate but original to the context of the changes you are citing. My 2 cents.
kasimax (243 D)

"Computer and mathematical sciences includes 935 scientists trained in computer and mathematical methods. Since the human-caused global warming hypothesis rests entirely upon mathematical computer projections and not upon experimental observations, these sciences are especially important in evaluating this hypothesis."

Yes, due to global warming. The ice around Greenland doesn't melt unless things are warmer. Thank god we have people with degrees in physics who can confirm such a hypothesis.

Problem with Krellins survey is as 2wl mentioned.

It runs under the assumption that all scientists are experts on global warming (which they aren't), rather then just the scientists that actually study global warming.
krellin (80 DX)
08 May 14 UTC
So then - you all agree that global warming...or is it climate change? Wait wait....I think it's now "climate disruption"....anyway...you all agree it is totally and absolutely real, and further that they know exactly what is causing it, etc etc etc...

So....therefore....you would agree that we can immediately cease funding any further research, right? Because they know all about it, and their computer models have been soooooo accurate in predicting everything, right?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Don't bother, kasi. Krellin is much too clever for us to handle. His elaborate ruse of posting something completely intellectually bankrupt and then jerking himself off while we calmly point out the flaws has foiled us once again.
SYnapse (0 DX)
08 May 14 UTC
I agree that climate change is happening all the time yes. You'd have to be fucking braindead to think that it isn't. And currently we are undergoing warming as opposed to cooling.
krellin (80 DX)
08 May 14 UTC
Fasces - funny thing is, most of the vocal advocates for global warming are....wait for it...POLITICIANS...who use fear to garner your vote and....wait for it....provide government funding to the scientists that....wait for it...support their beliefs....

Yeah....there's no corruption there...

A complete and absolute *failure* of global warming "scientists" to accurately predict a damned thing....but...yeah...it's pretty fucking solid science.

If I asked you to drive a car that had brakes built using computer simulations that produced designs that failed 100% of the time in the lab....but they built the car with these brakes anyway...would you drive the car?

Trouble is when computers become the source of the data, rather than an, albeit very useful tool, to interpret such data. It has been done many times before. Science on the cheap tailored for those who prefer tap tap taping away on keyboard to getting out into the field or using their hands and brians in the lab.
krellin (80 DX)

Global Warming is a FAILED COMPUTER MODEL. It isn't science...it's a (bad) video game.

I don't care what the politicians think, they're irrelevant. What I care about is what the climate scientists think, since they're the people who have spent their lives researching this issue and something like 97% of climate scientists think... wait for it...that global warming is real.

krells, i would once again like to know who profits from telling everybody the "lie" that manmade global warming is happening?

if i were a politician, the first thing i would do is tell everybody that global warming is a lie. not only would the car industry love me and fetch me some money, the people would be happy that they can live save and vote for me. or am i missing something?
Fasces349 (0 DX)

"Except...this is false, and has been for the past 10-15 year..."
Not really, while over the past 10 years the speed in which warming has happened is half the speed it was during the 1990s, we are still warming.

Hell if you're that skeptical of outside sources do it yourself.

Send a weather balloon up with a camera for ~$500 now, and do one at the same date in a couple of years time, and you will see the polar shrinkage.

Creating a game based on GR
I was 112 in April and I'm 353 overall. I'd like to play with some people ranked higher than me.

The game would be full-press (it's all I really play). Everything else is up for discussion: anon/non-anon, buy-in, PPSC/WTA, and length. Personally, I prefer 3-4 days, but I could do 2 if people wanted. Who's interested?

A Third Pary Run in 2016?
Couple years off, obviously, but still, allow me to float a hypothetical--Rand Paul, like his father before him, obviously is a big enough name to run for office...and, like his father, might not be a perfect fit for the big business-happy GOP as a whole. That being said, he's younger and potentially a hotter candidate than his father was, so, let's say Rand Paul runs as a third party candidate vs. Hillary and *insert flavor of the month GOP candidate here.* How would that race go?

A Few rules questions (Sorry if you'd heard these questions before)
If you perform a support hold on an army that attempted to move to a different location but failed (therefore it hasnt moved), will the support hold fail because the initial orders were not to hold?

Also, if army 1 is supporting army 2 and is being support held by army 3, yet army 1 gets attacked, does his support of army 2 fail or stay since army 1 is being support held by army 3? (sorry if that was confusing)
