Honestly though, I don't get why you would think you can't lose a plane?

Well everyone knows how big a plane is. What most people don't realize is how big the world around that plane is to get lost in.

Boeing 777s don't just randomly fall out of the sky without at least having the common courtesy to notify ATC.

It's also convenient that the Boeing 777 in question just happened to crash into the South China Sea (arguably the most volatile region in the world right now) when it was full of Red Chinese nationals.

Foul play in what sense? There's a couple of options: they know/can know where the plane is but say they don't/can't, they got disconnected because of interference or something, the system got turned off, they got hacked, they got hijacked, faulty equipment didn't notify crash, plane fell apart mid-air (well, that means something is faulty, but anyway), plane never existed, plane got shot out of the air,

I understand that Partysane. I also understand just how many fail-safes and GPS transmitters are on board planes. Not to mention that almost every plane nowadays has a blackbox that transmits in the case of a crash. Then there is the fact that every plane has radio, and backup radio systems that the captain is trained to use immediately in the case of an emergency. So for the airway to have had no idea where the plane vanished too is downright incredible.

Speaking as an American, I highly doubt that the most populous country on Earth, which includes the world's largest manufacturing base, one of the world's largest and most modern militaries, and America's largest trading partner is going to go all Mission Impossible and ghost-jack a plane from a comparatively troubled impoverished third-world country.

Well now that they know that 2 of the passengers on the plane got on with stolen passports it looks like this was foul play.

plane blows up or plane crashes in an inhospitable region. There are planes that crashed on land that have been missing since WWII. Obviously planes that crash on water are also easy to lose.

Its starting to look like the aircraft blew up. I don't know if I buy that it was definitely a terrorist attack, you would expect the perpetrators to have claimed responsibility already.

I agree, I don't see how this could be a terrorist attack. The point of terrorism is that people *know* who committed the crimes -- otherwise the victims don't know who they're supposed to fear.

the only think I'm thinking is the claim of responsibility could be working its way to the press or online. Especially if Al Queda/jihadi related.

There are plenty of misguided people out there, two of them could have decided to take out a plane for any number of reasons. All I know for sure though, is that given everything that's been released, something seems very off about the entire situation.

At the same time, presence stolen passports do not necessarily mean this was foul play. It could be an indication though.

That's not really the case with airplanes, they only travel on specific routes/lanes and at specific altitudes, which has in the past led to many mid air collisions.
