Backseat driver is a press variant where each country is played by two players. One is the driver and one is the backseat driver. The drivers basically just play a classic variant gunboat game (anonymous, no-press). They enter the orders for the units but cannot communicate with anyone. The backseat drivers on the other hand have no control over the orders but are allowed to negotiate on their country's behalf via public messages. Of course the drivers are by no means obligated to do what the backseat drivers suggest they do.

The way this would work is that we have a gunboat game with 3 day deadlines for the drivers and a thread here in the forum where the backseat drivers negotiate. Anyone, including of course the drivers, can read the negotiation thread but only the backseat drivers would be allowed to post in it. Drivers will be assigned a country by the game, backseat drivers will be assigned a country randomly by myself.

Note that backseat drivers are expected to produce a reasonable amount of press. I will create the game as soon as enough reliable and able (as judged by me) players have shown interest. Also, I will be taking one of the backseat driver positions myself.
