A Jewish State? Israel? YES. YES IT IS.
http://news.yahoo.com/israeli-demand-sparks-39-jewish-state-39-debate-192744221.html It's a Jewish State. As surely as Ireland's an Irish state and Iran's an Iranian state, Israel is a JEWISH state...THE Jewish state. Make the Palestinians recognize that, and in turn, make the Israelis stop the terrible, TERRIBLE expansion plan into the West Bank. As surely as there must be a Palestine, Israel MUST be THE Jewish state.

@Putin33

"Putin has spoken at length about how he doesn't dislike gay people"

You know, that's probably true, because Putin doesn't really care one way or the other. But he's certainly playing a game with hatred of gays, profiting politically and hoping that focusing on this particular item (which probably raises his esteem with most people, since most people hate gays) will distract from whatever else he's doing.

Putin33, why do you always accept the statements of dictators at face value, but go to such great lengths to twist the words of liberal Western figures?
Octavious (2701 D)
08 Feb 14 UTC
There were some parts of the opening that were spectacular, but others that simply didn't work. The Swan Lake doves of peace/ jellyfish thing I really liked. The flashing sporting figures suspended in the sky must have looked great on paper but was awful on the night. It was nice to see a simple torch lighting though. You do get tired of the "blindfolded one legged man on a unicycle lighting the torch with a bow and arrow whilst drinking a glass of water backwards" approach.

@Putin33

I have to agree, the commentary was extremely irritating. America has history that would never be put in an opening ceremony, so why are they making such a big deal about 'inaccuracies' in Russia's program? I also have a feeling those commentators didn't experience Russia at any of the cultural moments they were attempting to denigrate.
Putin33 (111 D)
08 Feb 14 UTC
He's not a dictator, he didn't come up with this law and it has caused no shortage of headaches, and whose words did I twist? Making stuff up again?

Putin33 (111 D)
08 Feb 14 UTC
"America has history that would never be put in an opening ceremony"

Indeed, you'd have thought that the London games a big section on the famine of Bengal, or something, the way the commentators spoke about 'rewritten history'. The history was via an 11 year old's dream, for crying out loud.

@Putin33 You consistently buy what Putin professes and consistently reject what American and other figure profess. Personally, I think they're all liars, but it's odd that you're so selectively gullible.

"The commentary was nauseating and almost made me mute the tv. "

Putin - totally agree. I turned it on to watch someone speaking in Russian without any translation, and a couple of moronic Americans bashing Russia. Shit...not even I would have been that low class.

08 Feb 14 UTC
@Putin33, nah, I'm too lazy. I'm not actually keeping a ledger against you but I'm relying on most regular readers having the same impression about your selective dubiousness. Mostly it's just shocking that you believe Putin, Kim, Mugabe, etc. I'm not saying Reagan was much of a truth teller, but shit man, you've got some blinders on when it comes to people flattering your preconceptions.
Putin33 (111 D)
08 Feb 14 UTC
"I'm not actually keeping a ledger against you but I'm relying on most regular readers having the same impression about your selective dubiousness"

So you're a liar and resorting to your typical play to the audience routine. Pathetic.

tendmote (100 D(B))
08 Feb 14 UTC
Do you believe any or all of Putin, Kim, and Mugabe largely speak the truth?
Putin33 (111 D)

I'll answer that when you stop trying to smear me with lies. I really don't give a damn about your opinions.

I don't mind that cancel and pause votes are out in the open, but I'd expect draw votes to be anonymous. That's how it was when I played FtF and on the email judges. Any particular reason why they are not anonymous on this site?

Public Press Gunboat
More akin to real life gunboat where we can chat about anything except the game. Does anyone do this? I prefer gunboat because diplomacy just takes a lot of time that I'd rather spend doing other things in my life. However sometimes it would be nice to have the option of sending a public shout out on some topic.
