I've tried to start interesting threads, and found it to be an inevitability that any thread about anything can and will be hijacked into a discussion of religion and/or politics.

You can try to make the forum better if you want, but you can't polish a turd, and there are a lot of turds in the forum.

Lando, so give us a list of topics that you find interesting.

Is that strictly true? I'm sure that one could, if suitably motivated and equipped, polish a turd.

A turd is too soft to polish. You could fire it in a kiln first, but they I suspect it would be too crumbly to polish. You'd have to settle for a matte finish. Or you could varnish or bronze the turd to solidify it first, but then you'd technically be polishing the varnish or the bronze.

If your turds are hard enough to polish, you need more fiber.

When there are no sections to the Forum, and it is left to "self-moderation" this is what we get: We get to taste Anarchy and it is impossible for our respected mods to keep things to reasonableness

I see we have got another wave of cackle about "free speech", and the hordes eager to display and clutter the Forum with their "free speech".
Well, I really think this is a preciously creative and inspiring community. If there were sections for "politics", "religion", "miscellaneous off-topic" it would be possible to moderate the Forum, but as there are no sections now, it is impossible to actively mod and bring order to the Forum and obviously (no surprise!) too much to expect of the "vulgar masses" self-moderation to work in a way that promotes communication, not sabotages it.

Hecks - well, I wasn't goign to hijack this lame-ass thread until you suggested it - so thanks for the opinion. That being said, nobody can hijack a thread if nobody plays along with the hi-jacking, so *if* I successfully hi-jack a thread, it is only because that is what people want.

Lando's basic complaint is this: He is in the minority, in that he doesn't like what the majority of the forum trolls like to talk about. So, in typical Libtard fashion, instead of actually doing something to change the forum (as Abge pointed out...MAKE an intersting thread!!) he instead turns to those around him, complains that he isn't getting his way, bashes the governing authority (the mods) for not making him happy when he has done nothing personally to improve his own lot in life...

I think it's quite fascinating to see, actually...Liberalism in action (or, really, sit-on-my-ass-and-bitch-until-I-get-what-I-want-INACTION...)

Actually I kind of agree with Lando a bit and I think the mute feature holds a lot of the blame. Previously, before the mute feature, far more people participated on the forum. There was a large amount of critical feedback and the forum was a far more user moderated because everyone had a vested interest in keeping crap off the forum and hounding those who posted absurd content. Once the option to simply mute a thread was introduced many of these people just started taking the easier route, muting threads where people posted bull. Giving people the easy ability to mute threads and users took away the inherent self moderation, and is the reason a large majority of the threads left are spam, because the spammers now make up a larger percentage of the people still using the forum for anything besides specific threads.

I think if we avoided the topics of porn, politics, and religion, there are enough other things in the world (and the world of the imagination) that the forum would be less likely to degenerate into a shitstorm.

I'm not suggesting the topics be banned, just if enough people choose not to introduce or respond to those topics, the general quality of the forum would go up.

Just sayin...I find it really odd when people come on here and bitch about the forum, when it is a *game* site first and foremost....so when someone is complaining about the forums, but they don't join games...I tend to be more dismissive of their thoughts. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like having everyone in the forum, but it's nice to play games with these same people, too. I enjoying finding myself an ally with my "thread nemesis" and such...makes me realize there is hope for humanity when I see people can put their irrational thread thoughts aside and play a game together...
