I'd love to make a map for webDiplomacy. What format do you need and is there some kind of guide?
I'm not an expert at doing this kind of stuff, just an interested player who wants to dedicate some time to offering an alternative map. If it's not possible, nevermind.

Re: Map-making.
My recommendation is to check out our sister site vDiplomacy.net
There they have tons of resources and a community of variant creators and testers.
If you have the requisite experience check out our development projects and code here —> http://webdiplomacy.net/developers.php
Look forward to seeing your work!

Re: Map-making.
I've made a few variants (using the standard map...) a lot of the work is image editing a picture to look good, and then editing the position of units in a text file.
Not too hard (though I've got an unfinished map somewhere which needs lots of work...) much easier than C++, unless you're trying to add some new features, like the railway in colonial (see: http://www.dipwiki.com/index.php?title=Colonial)
Doing a simple map variant is largely down to the image editing... Which can be done in photoshop, ms paint, and GIMP (or whatever takes your fancy...)

Re: Map-making.
I have written a variant creation guide for vDiplomacy that specifically addresses how one can make variants and get them implemented on that site:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/17oF ... sp=sharing
No coding is needed.
