31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: Hey guys, this is the first all-newb online diplomacy game I've run, so I hope that all of us can spend time to get acquainted with the game.

1: The basic rules and instructions are available here: http://webdiplomacy.net/intro.php

2: The tabs with country names at the top of the page are for chat.

3. Moves are input from the drop-down menus. They are only finalised or input once you have hit one of the buttons them: save, or ready. Hit Ready to finalise your moves for immediate turn advancement. If everyone 'readies' their moves, the turn can advance before time runs out. Save merely keeps your moves in memory for when the server turns over (in this game, ever 24 hours).
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: First TEST:
Use the chat buttons above to forward a message I send to you. I will send first to Carthage. Carthage will send it to Egypt, and so on until the message is sent back to me, Rome.

What you must do is soften the meaning, or replace a certain word with a synonym so as to make the sentence more friendly to potential allies.

The chat rooms are private. What you say to Egypt will not be overheard by Rome. This exercise helps you to deflect information to potential allies or enemies.

If the phrase I give to Carthage comes back too similar, it shows that you guys are thinking too literally. If it comes back too different, then you are all liars!
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: In the mean time, familiarise yourself with the controls. I want everyone in this game to move their fleet to the body of water nearest their land. Hit SAVE and then say:

DONE

in this thread.
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: Move no other pieces for now.
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: DONE
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: DONE
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: DONE
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: Whoops, page refresh made me send that again
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: Done, but whoops, I moved other things before you said not to.
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: I think I fixed it
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: Two more and we're ready. Also, Carthage, please start repeating the message I sent. Send it to your right.
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: One question, should I 'Ready' my command or keep it in 'Saved'?
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: I think I fixed it
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: I think I fixed it
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: Wow, sorry, I don't know why that keeps repeating.
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: Save for now
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: Okay since this is taking longer than I expected, please input one more move:

It will be an attack example. In diplomacy, there are no dice; every piece is worth the exact same as another piece. If two pieces move to the same spot, they both bounce out, returning to their original location.

So this turn we will do two things:

1. Put a boat in a nearby piece of water.
2. Move one army to a body of water next to that boat. The other army will support (offer its power) to that move.

Finally please ready your moves. The check mark near your name will turn green, meaning ready.
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: Everyone has at least one spot of water to which they can support the movement of an army with the help of their other army. Look at the board and see. If you have questions ask them here.
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: I don't see any bodies of water in the list destinations for my army's move.
31 Mar 14 UTC Spring, 1: I'm sorry, for your fleet. Armies must stay on land. They can never move on sea unless they are convoyed. But that will be next turn's homework.
