Have Diplomacy been used in education?
I am Japanese. I do not know what significance the game of Diplomacy has in U.S.A or EU. In Japan, it is said frequently, without any evidence, that the game of Diplomacy is a somekind of textbook to learn politics or other branches in junior high or senior high school. Is that really?

Science Weekly: Decoding Dreams
Science reported today that new research allows scientists to decode and predict objects in people's dreams. We are decades off from being able to watch dreams like movies, but this is still a major achievement. Thoughts on what this means for perhaps a person's most private type of experience?

Game is still on Pause Mode
I am currently in a game called world wide gunboat! - 28. A player was removed for duplicate accounts and the game has been in pause mode since. Everyone has submitted their orders and is ready for the next phase, but it is not moving on. Many players are voting to unpause as well. Is this a fluke? I am confused as to why the game is still in pause mode.

why are there so many threads that have nothing to do with diplomacy?
i just noticed that this forum is full of non-diplomacy related threads. why dont you all go to some political discussion forum instead? with that said, does anybody know of any good ones?

i was blocked from posting for a day, and will likely be blocked again, maybe forever. it is kind of a secret ban. people dont see it but i cant post.

with all that i have found 3 forums so far, huffingtonpost, politicalhotwire and the blankflag amazing text section forum.

huffingtonpost at huffingtonpost.com has active discussion about every corporate media news story but also has a lot of propaganda spammers.

unfortunately although the most advanced technically and stylistically, the blankflag website at pesl.byethost7.com/blank lacks any kind of userbase.

politicalhotwire at politicalhotwire.com seems ok, i have just joined. and i posted some amazing content already at http://politicalhotwire.com/member-introductions/84696-im-coming-so-youd-better-ready.html#post2410297

so what does everybody think?

@blank, I became a member of the site a while ago, and played some games. Unfortunately, it took too much of my time to play high quality, but I liked many people I played against and many people on the forum, so I hung around to debate. It allows me to hear opinions on issues I care about from the entire planet.

If Bolshoi and atom had a love child, the result would be blankflag

blankflag (0 DX)

i was a love child. but of beatrice rothschild and the butler jacques linferieur at the prestigious ferrier estate. after failing to meet the expectations of my fathers hired teaching staff he declared me a genetic anomaly and sent me to new york to run for elected office. i suspect he secretly funded my opposition just to spite me that asshole and then he pretended to sympathize and told me the cia would always take me. so with my experience trying to be a politicians and the people i met i got a job there coming up with different stories to tell each politician or media editor to get that person on board with the agenda. then i would meet with each one individually and tell him "ok this is the real truth we have to hide from the public" and they were stupid enough to buy it. but the "real truth" had a thousand different variations each one targetted to a specific politicians beliefs. in the end i was a part of the successful campaign to convince the left that war=peace. it may seem like an easy thing now, but when i started the job in the bush administration it was unthinkable.

Blankmind, I'm going to direct you to a different drug dealer because the one you have now is feeding you stuff that you don't want in your system. Marijuana is fine; LSD and mushrooms are not good. You and your family need to gauge whether or not you need help. That can't be done online. Please do what's best for you and know that LSD and mushrooms aren't best.

but later on i fell in love with someone from the inferior social stratum. and started becoming really socially involved with the proletariat. my father had already hired a bunch of operatives to pose as normal individuals but really with the goal of getting me on board with the agenda by giving me a distorted view of reality, but i met this girl totally by accident and she was not one of them. when my peers started deriding me about it i became even more upset and polarized against them. until eventually i was rejected by my former friends. my father seeing that i was lost withdrew his support and the cia promptly fired me. i spent a couple years living in queens supporting myself by working as a janitor but then the recession hit, so i took what of my trust fund that i could get (before that bastard could exercise his right to withdraw certain funds) and started a trip around the world for forum-trolling purposes.

Then again, there are plenty of smart anarchists and socialists, so I shouldn't insult them.
blankflag (0 DX)
04 Apr 13 UTC
well what do you mean by anarchist or socialist? i just no longer trust the most powerful institutions in the world. so i am a fan of getting away from power structures. i think communities can maybe rule themselves in a better way than a centrally planned and controlled society. i am really anti-totalitarianism, anti-fascism, anti-ussr-style-communism... but i think if i claimed to be something then you would think that i have some ideal society in mind that i am striving for perfection. no, i am just working to get rid of controlling all-powerful entities as much as practical. but in this day in age i have given up on really reversing it and i am just trying to keep their powers from growing as fast as they otherwise would.

here is a picture of me when i first made that major life change http://gentlemint.com/tack/143098/

Thread #3 of a moderator putting down a community member.
Jamiet99uk (1302 D)
04 Apr 13 UTC
@ Iceray:

1. Why are you jumping into a whole load of threads, making the comment you just made - who made you the moderator of the moderators?
2. More seriously, as *volunteers* who are also members of this community, why should our moderators not be open about their opinions? Why should they not have the right to publicly disagree with another member of the community?
Iceray0 (266 D(B))
04 Apr 13 UTC
There's a difference between disagreement and putting someone down. As a moderator of a community, you're looked to to uphold the values and rules of the community. If a government official walked on stage and said that Jean-Marc Ayrault is a retard, there would be serious backlash. It's the same thing, only on a smaller scale. As a member of the community, when the moderators are breaking the rules, we call them out on it. It's the only way shit gets done.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
04 Apr 13 UTC
@Iceray, I was not putting someone down, I'm informing them they were breaking site rules.

That said, moderators are members of the community. Unless we specifically sign a post as "-WebDip Mod" or something similar we are posting as a regular member who doesn't have the option of muting people we don't want to listen too. If you do feel any or all moderators behavior is inappropriate you are welcome to send an email to the site owner Kestas who will review your concerns.

"As a member of the community, when the moderators are breaking the rules, we call them out on"

If you believe a mod to be breaking the rules, you should contact an Admin.
Iceray0 (266 D(B))
04 Apr 13 UTC
It wasn't you in this thread, it was you in a different thread. Regardless of if you sign it as a mod or not, the fact remains that you are a leader of the community. What you did in this thread is entirely acceptable and well within your bounds.

"when the moderators are breaking the rules, we call them out on it"

Putting someone down is not against the rules.

Nothing out of the ordinary. A mere disagreement with a little bit of heat... Completely unremarkable if not for the fact that they've both been about for very nearly forever and it still had the feel of the sort of argument you get when people first realise they don't like each other. Quite sweet, really.

Diplomacy should be carried out through your moves, and if press is allowed, through your press, but not through voting signals. Some conspiracy theorists believe their are hidden meanings in unusual votes -- in my experience it is b/c of us cell phone players with fat fingers... Gunboat should not have this communication tool, and in press you can reveal or lie about your votes all you like...
