Metagaming?
Is it metagaming to ask for advice on a game that is currently running? What about general advice concerning the country you are playing, without reference to the game?

This Time On Philosophy Weekly: George Carlin--"I'm an Entropist...I Like Anarachy!"
For the last one of these chat sessions of the year (that I REALLY enjoy and value, by the way, so thank you all so much, those of you who continue to share your ideas...I respect you so much for taking the time and effort to CARE and to SHARE your opinion) I thought, in the wake of that last "cyber-attack" by self-proclaimed anarchists (at least I think they were) we could discuss anarchy. What "defines" it? To what degree? Good? Bad? What about authoritarianism, the flip side?

Epic gunboat.
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=45127
this is by far the best gunboat game i've ever played. Guessing France's orders and helping him all the way till 17 SC's. When there was no sign he would draw, I switched sides and forced a stalemate. It was epic.

Getting to know the PBEM Diplomacy Community
In recent days, we have had some vibrant discussions on various threads about our community compared to the PBEM community. In that light, I wanted to share a few emails I received that might be useful for some others, both in shedding light on other communities of Dip players and to provide us with ideas to even further improve our own.

diplomacy on risk-board
hey people, i would like to play diplomacy with my friends, in real, not online... and we never want to play diplomacy with 7 people at the same time. so i think it is not worth to buy the game, but i have risk and i thougt it would be possible to make a variant on the risk-board (without chancing the board, i could try it with aresible things)

Gifts
This has actually come off pretty well so far but I may have bitten off more than I can chew.
Thus far for my wife my kids and I have given her gifts for the first five of the twelve days of Christmas and a letter explaining how we've screwed it up.

Day 1 a pear (the partridge flew off and the orchard owner took out a restraining order)
Day 2 two caramel turtles and two dove chocolates
Day 3 three hard boiled eggs (they were hard boiled by homeland security's new scanner)
Day 4 the kids called her all day making bird noises and being sweet saying they loved her and stuff like that.

Day 5 a can of Dole pineapple rings. I'm still working on that explanation.

Any suggestions about the next ones?

6 geese a laying
7 swans a swimming
8 maids a milking (we've got milk maid caramels for this one)
9 lords a leapin'
10 ladies dancing (thinking a dance movie dvd)
11 pipers piping
12 drummers drumming
and yes, I'll be getting her a real present but we're having fun with the gag gifts .

Maybe you can find a tape or DVD of the Lord of the Dance guys for the 9 lords a leapin'. I know my wife loved watching that a few years back.

Or you could do both 9 and 10 together by getting a copy of one of the seasons of So You Think You Can Dance. If they have them on DVD. Not sure about that.
Thanks those are good ideas too. I was thinking of looking for a season of Dancing with the Stars" as she likes that show as well.

An Anglican, of all people, should know that the 12 days of Christmas haven't started yet.
Yes, I know it just fits better into her vacation schedule this way. The days from Christmas to Epiphany are the twelve days of Christmas.
