map-symbol question
What does a black star mean when a unit gets created? Why is it there versus a yellow star? For instance, in this game:

http://www.webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=24664
Russia's new army in Warsaw gets a yellow star, but the new army in Sevastopol gets a black star.

Anyone ready to play a game within the hour?
I've only got 6 D and a rare free night. Anyone want to go live? I'll start whatever style of game people want to play but it must be for 5 D only. I prefer GB or PP for live games but I'll agree to whatever. Post interest and what you want to play and will start.

Look at least at the fleet in Syrian. It seemes to me that he does anything but working for his own good. Egyptian too... Autumn 3: why moving to safe Crete?
Or is that me and everything is fine?

Vote Match General: Election 2010
This is a cool little thing I found online. It takes your opinion on separate issues and then says which UK party fits you best. Even as an American I found this interesting. It takes about three minutes, so why not know how you'd vote if you lived in the United Kingdom?

the idea of o soul entering into the zygote is a crazy one anyway, what about identical twins? Does god know to put two souls in? what about any number of stem cell experiments we could perform to produce multiple identical copies of this cell? would ther be enough souls to go around for every human who could be created?

what if we intended to implant just one into a surogate mother, God would then know which cell to put the soul in...

and likewise if we were going to destroy all the cells would there be no soul to begin with? (or if the cell was going to naturally develope into a cancerous problem as was brought up earlier?)

While I am a practicing atheist, I have to say this is a ridiculous line of reasoning. Since you are predicating these questions on god existing, then yes, he does know to put two souls in. He knows which cell to put the soul in. He's god silly.

If God exists then He is the architect behind the human birth process. As around three quarters of woman trying to conceive experience early pregnancy loss quite naturally I think it is safe to assume that God isn't all that concerned about whether zygote development fails or not. Still, God also invented shoulder joints so it could just be He's an idiot. A first year engineering student could do better!
A first year engineering student can't make those joints grow, heal, assist in nourishing themselves, or act involuntarily in defense of the entire body though.

True, but they could at least come up with something that doesn't break whenever it gets a hard knock.

How many times have you broken your shoulder? The way you are talking I would expect you to have both arms in a sling as you type. :D

Can you point me to one of these 'better' shoulder designs? I googled it, and all I got was better tattoo designs on shoulders.
Like CA said, it would have to be made out of a material that is able to grow from basically nothing, and be able to heal itself as well. It would also have to be made out of a light weight material for ease of movement, so most metals are out of the question.

"what about identical twins? Does god know to put two souls in?"

only if they are both right-handed. :D

The fact that the body operates really really well is not an issue... natural selection handles that just fine... the issue is that evolution handles things in a gradual and step-wise fashion and gets itself into some slightly odd designs that function well enough but you wouldn't go there if you didn't have evolution's legacy to deal with (prior uses for the same parts, etc.)... whereas creationism gets a fresh start - it has no legacy of prior forms distorting what parts you have available... you can design from scratch the perfect body design... but creationism failed to do so.

For example... there is a muscle in the foot, the plantaris muscle, that has no use in an upright bipedal animal such as ourselves - it is a legacy from our earlier days in the trees where we used our feet to grasp with. Our tree dwelling cousins have this same muscle which they use for exactly that purpose. A designer that doesn't use evolution would not have that muscle in our legs. Period. Indeed, through natural selection we are even beginning to lose that muscle... approximately 20% of the population does not have it. I'm not familiar with the shoulder design issue so I can't speak to that... but there are others... the carpal tunnel, the appendix, vulnerabilities in the back, muscles that move the ears, having blood vessels and nerves on the front surface of the retina rather than the back (which along with the basic inefficiency creates the necessity of a blind spot), wisdom teeth...
dexter morgan (225 D(S))
02 Apr 10 UTC
Correction... the plantaris muscles is absent in 7 - 10% of the human population.

I think it's clear that many aspects of the human body can already be conceivably improved if humans had the power to design themselves. The fact that we eat, drink, talk, and breathe out of the same hole is preposterous. Dolphins can eat and breathe... having two separate pathways certainly helps. It's too bad we weren't similarly blessed and have to put up with silly things like choking to death.

But this is not a theological debate!
