Ok so this thread is so everyoen can call me stupid...
but is it really stupid to not expect and army to be able to Retreat into one of your own territories? I had no idea someone could use a retreat move offensively! instead of retreating to their their own territory they can retreat to my supply centre?

i'm sure somewhere on the full gaem site it will tell me that's ok but seriously I think i'm quiting a game over this...

Sitter needed.
Sorry to ask for a sitter again so soon, but I'm leaving for about ten days, and I won't have a scrap of technology where I'm going. I'm only in three games, one a gunboat, the other two are in the final stages of the game, and won't really require much negotiation, I just need someone to finish them out for me. My email is in my profile, please let me know if you are interested, I leave in about 36 hours.

Is it okay to "donate" your supply centres to you ally
Personally I would never do this but I would interested to hear what other player think.
Imagine a player who realizes that he can't win, rather than see his enemy take his supply centers he gives them to his ally, including supporting his ally's movement into his SCs. Ethical or not ethical?

Queston about gameplay?
If I move my troops onto an undefended territory, I will automatically gain control, correct?

The reason I ask is that the rules never mentioned anything about capturing territory.

I mean, taking the diplomacy out of diplomacy...what's the point? I've never played a game of gunboat and it's hard for me to understand the attraction.

Player complaint
How do I file a complaint against a vulgar, inappropriate player?
spyman (424 D(G))
14 Jun 09 UTC
I don't think you can. The general attitude on this site is that anything goes. Personally I don't like unpleasantness either. I play games to have fun, not to get abused. That said, it is best to have a thick skin a cold heart when you play this game.
SoroSuub1 (664 D)
14 Jun 09 UTC
You don't, just go attack him instead if it bothers you so. I'm sure his attitude will help you turn other players against him.

If you mention it on the forum (It is polite to mention the offense in the first text but not the username until the reply) the mods will probaly look into it.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

We don't tend to ban people for vulgar behaviour, the generally accepted method is to rise above it.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

Please don't post copies of the press on the forum though, particularly for a game in progress. :)

Tell the player, politely, in global, that you don't appreciate his attitude, and that your country is now his country's sworn enemy. Often, he'll had done it to others, and players will ally against the nasty one to knock him out. Also, since you have a beef with him, your new allies will feel confident that you won't stab - until that guy is knocked out. :-)

The player in question (I'm in the game and allied with him, I know this because he posted in the press that he was going to go complain) has not been rude or vulgar to anyone else. The exact quote, I believe was, "Watching you play is like watching a virgin have sex for the first time." (You reposted it in global.)

Anyway. It's kinda vulgar. But it's also a freaking hilarious analogy. And he was mad at you because you were playing to spite us, not to do well for yourself, which is frustrating to anyone in this game (Even though I have been known to both do and threaten it myself).

Anyway. Long story short, you need to get over yourself, and he needs to get angry less easily.
dangermouse (5551 D)
14 Jun 09 UTC
That's rather redundant wouldn't you say? How can a virgin have sex and NOT have it be the first time?
Akroma (967 D)
14 Jun 09 UTC
from what chrispminis told me, the mods can't read press. so when something offensive happens, then there is no proof that it happened, which means that even if you complain. there will be no consequences.

just avoid that player in future games
Draugnar (0 DX)
14 Jun 09 UTC
And there is nothing in the rules against it. For fucks sake, get over it and move on.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

Ghosty, even if you could, what would you do? He could have called him every name in the book, questioned his heritage, his dad's heritage, his mom's pedigree, and more and their ain't jack you could do (or SHOULD do) about it. It's part of the game and he need to grow a thicker skin.

@ lativius. The only recommendation I have is to not partake in any "Chainsaw" game w/ airborne.

Although, I would love to see some players reactions to that variant - especially if they didn't understand the philosophy behind it. :P

rlumley (0 DX)
15 Jun 09 UTC
What's the "chainsaw" variant? That sound's mildly awesome.
Akroma (967 D)
15 Jun 09 UTC
when I am informed correctly, chainswa press is when you go and outright plan on severing every possible bond to a player, usually with a lot of insults, death threats, and public announcements that you will gladly help anyone out who wants to attack the player you dislike.

wouldn't recommend it, in diplomacy, flexibility is a treasure.
giving up the option to switch alliances if the need to do so arouses can lead you to a few dead-ends.

imagine your ally that you specialized on stabs you.
no one is going to help you out if you chainsaw'd him.

russia, fuck you

oh err...sorry, can you help me out ?

you catch my drift

chainsaw press is not awesome, and rarely leads to a good result.
handle with care.

the only case in wihc public chainsaws are useful are for bluffs

hey mods- how do i file a complaint against an easily offended player who doesnt realize that anything goes in diplomacy?

just kidding.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
15 Jun 09 UTC
Draugnar, very little, I agree, although a player who is just offensive to spite other people (starting their press with somebody in a game in an offensive manner, dogging a person in some way etc.) might be advised that it wasn't really acceptable.

Kestas would have to decide what he thought should happen about it.

The powers would be more useful to find cross-gaming cheats.
