OK, so here's how it went for me, and what I was trying to do:
S01-I was really trying for the Juggernaut, but I think I had Italy and Austria both convinced I was allied with them. Really I was sowing dissent between them so Russia and I could wipe them out. Austria didn't go for Serbia, so I was guaranteed 2 builds. Still not sure how I worked that out exactly, may have been blind luck, but I'm not arguing. In the west, I started talking to England about a possible 2-way split if things fell right for both of us. Mainly I was trying to foment anxiety among all of them so that no alliances formed immediately. Besides...as Turkey, the last thing you want is a strong France. England poses much less of a threat than France or Germany, especially where a Juggernaut is concerned.
S02-The intent was always to crush Austria. Russia allowed me the Black Sea, so Juggy should have been apparent. Unfortunately, Austria got a rogue unit behind Russia's line that presented a problem. At this point, I started persuading Italy to join in the fight against Italy in case Russia couldn't hold up his end of the alliance.
A02-Russia was totally boogered by this point. Juggy couldn't roll, so I had to rethink my options. I worked to keep the 3 western powers at odds with each other since an alliance of any kind forming in the west spelled doom for the east while the future was still in the air. Question: where in the blue hell is that Italian army going?
03-What looks like a stab on Russia is indeed a stab. He asked me to move into Ukraine to help fend off Austria. Knowing this was a fruitless venture, I parlayed with Austria to gain his support and went ahead with the Russian stab. I also figured Germany was anti-Russian considering the opening standoff in Sweden. Time to cut losses and grab centers while the getting was good. Besides...Austria at this point would love to get back in the game in lieu of getting wiped out in the next year.
04-Decisions, decisions. Ally with Italy to eliminate Austria and go for the win? Or ally with Austria to eliminate Italy and head for a likely draw (I knew going after Italy would leave my entire center exposed while my fleets headed west, so I was unlikely to have another opportunity to truly try for the solo). With the west still a mess and Italy refusing to say more than 3-4 words to me in any messages, I gambled that the pro-Austria play was the best decision and headed for the boot.
05-To solidify the alliance, I willingly gave up 2 centers. Austria would need them to hold the northern line and help me put pressure on Italy. I'm still unguarded, so if Austria was going to stab now would be the time. I was on pins and needles this entire year (and 06) expecting an Austrian stab while I was otherwise preoccupied and distinctly fleet-heavy.
06-A breakthrough in the Italian defense (finally!). France and Germany are, in my mind, now convinced that they're next and begin to wheel east. Too little too late I think. This gave England the breathing room he needed (and had been clamoring for) to finally mount an offensive and press his Naval advantage. Talks begin for a 3-way draw.
07 to 09-Pretty much academic at this point. The 3-way draw had been accepted during build phase, so all we had to do was roll west and hold the seas around Britain to be successful.
10-A little hairy here. Austria thought I was going to stab for a solo win because I asked him to take Tuscany. I have a touch of OCD and that little sliver of green left on the board was irking me. In any event, we had some skirmishes (and I managed to take Marseilles, for which I duly apologized) but came out clear on the other side of what was otherwise a successful marriage.
All in all one of the most entertaining games I've been part of. Lots of intrigue, clever play from all sides, and well-timed stabs. I also managed to shake off some of my bad habits from other games and learn a thing or two about negotiating skill (especially how important it is for a corner power with little room to expand).
