And then I saw this guy

To be honest that's the only appropriate thing to do during a Red Sox-Yankees game.

Indeed, this shows that most Americans are keen to be offended by any and every thing because it is possible to sue anyone and everyone for any ridiculous reason... I think you have a point Kallen when you compare some of the forum discussions / members to this story ;-)

I was wondering if people were bored to death at work or simply hot tempered.... but it is none of the above... they simply are American...
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

I have plenty of MLB tickets in my room and they literally say that by buying the ticket and attending the game you agree to have your likeness on any and all approved television and media programs, newspapers, online, etc. He has no case at all, probably just hoping MLB will settle and give him something... ridiculous.
SYnapse (0 DX)
08 Jul 14 UTC
As someone who studied law, I'm on his side.

Having your likeness on television is completely different to being victimised in the age of information....poor guy had narcolepsy and missed his favourite game only to be hounded by the press, Twitter and facebook making him feel afraid to leave the house, psychologically damaged unable to go to sports games any more.
"I was wondering if people were bored to death at work or simply hot tempered.... but it is none of the above... they simply are American.."

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT, BUCKO!!!???!?!?!?

Yeah, SYnapse... that "poor guy" is suing for $10M because he fell asleep at a baseball game. It's a pathetic suit and if it doesn't get thrown out I'm going to do the exact same thing and make some cash.

I like the fact that the action on the field was so exciting that this sleeping guy was the most interesting thing the commentators could find to talk about, even though the game was in progress as they talked about him. Watching the clip, several pitches were thrown, without being mentioned by the commentary team at all, while they chatted about the sleeping fan.

If this clip is anything to go by, it just confirms my view that baseball sucks. I'm not sure I wouldn't have fallen asleep too. The teams were literally playing the game at the time, but the commentary team found nothing interesting to report, apart from sleepyhead.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)

Sleepy also needs to hire a lawyer who has English as a first language...
Alpha@Omega (183 D)
08 Jul 14 UTC
@2WL with a good lawyer, you probably would. Though I doubt this would be a free site anymore. On a side note, a woman from Las Vegas is suing Match.com for 10 million after being stabbed by someone she met online. She claims the site should warn people that whoever you meet online could be dangerous.

You should get Synapse to represent you. I'd say go for at least 500 +1s and 2000 D. You deserve it for the hardship this site put you through.
Putin33 (111 D)

The argument that if you buy a ticket you're consenting to public ridicule is quite bizarre, but not altogether unexpected coming from this crowd - where faux manliness is next to godliness.
Putin33 (111 D)

"If this clip is anything to go by, it just confirms my view that baseball sucks. "

That'd be like judging soccer on the basis of Ian Darke's propensity to talk about his being sweaty and having diarrhea.
Kallen (1157 D)
08 Jul 14 UTC

It's just that baseball (and soccer) have a lot of down time, because not every pitch, pass, shot, hit, or run is full of action and worthy of watching every second of the game. For some, that may be considered boring. For others who understand the relative significance of each moment in the game, it would be more entertaining to watch.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
08 Jul 14 UTC
Who is Ian Darke is he knew?
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
08 Jul 14 UTC
@ Kallen: "It's just that baseball (and soccer) have a lot of down time, because not every pitch, pass, shot, hit, or run is full of action and worthy of watching every second of the game."

Surely pretty much the most essential component of baseball is the bit where the pitcher throws the ball and the batter tries to hit it? That you can describe those moments as "down time" says a lot, for me...
Randomizer (722 D)

He isn't suing about his likeness being used, but the insults from a third party against a private party and not a public figure. Now if it had been a player in the dugout sleeping through the game it would have been okay.

Besides for what he paid for a ticket he should be able to sleep as longs as he stayed in his seat and didn't bother anyone else nearby.
Draugnar (0 DX)

What Randomizer said. It's called responsible journalism. Sports broadcasters aren't exactly known for it.

You're reminding me of what I've come to hold as one of my primary reasons for appreciating cricket: unlike baseball, it knows it's not an action sport.
Putin33 (111 D)
09 Jul 14 UTC
Baseball doesn't have any pretenses of being an action sport. Which is why the commentators frequently talk about other things.

Some people need constant stimulation in a sports contest.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
09 Jul 14 UTC
So I can sue someone if I get made fun of on TV?
Putin33 (111 D)
09 Jul 14 UTC
But singling out baseball because of side-bar commentary and panning out to the fans in the stands is ridiculous. Every sport does it. Hell, basketball and football games have side-line reporters asking coaches questions in the middle of the action.
Putin33 (111 D)
09 Jul 14 UTC
No bo_sox48, if you ever buy a ticket to an event, the media has the unfettered right to ridicule you without end until the event is over. Because you take that "risk" when you buy something. Buyer Beware Libertarian Dogma. Right?

Does it bother anybody that the plaintiff blatantly lies about the verbal content of the broadcast in question? I feel it will very probably bother the judge.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
09 Jul 14 UTC
It's an issue of scale, more than anything else. 20 years ago, if some broadcaster made fun of him over the air, I don't think it would be such a big deal. I've seen him a dozen times though on half as many websites. That can't possibly be right.
Putin33 (111 D)
09 Jul 14 UTC
"Does it bother anybody that the plaintiff blatantly lies about the verbal content of the broadcast in question?"

It bothers me quite a bit more that the broadcasters comments caused the man to be called all sorts of nasty things throughout the social media world. All because he fell asleep. While the brief was poorly written and attributed comments made by social media trolls to the broadcasters, they don't even begin to scratch the surface as to what kind of verbal abuse he has endured.

But naturally, this elicits no sympathy from the morally righteous among us.

Draugnar (0 DX)

The video cuts out and they were still talking about him... "not a cousin? Not a relative?" <cut>. For all we know, they continued or even returned to it. He may not be lying. That was *very* unprofessional and uncalled for. The network should fire those two fuckwits (and their producer who clearly kept the camera on him) and apologize to the man, giving him something for the way they treated him.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
09 Jul 14 UTC
Something, maybe. An apology and an ESPN baseball cap. Not ten million dollars though.

Design Flaw in the Global Variant
I have now encountered several times a design flaw in the global variant in that fleets may not pass between Armenia and Moscow (which has a Black Sea Coastline bordering Armenia); neither can they support an action between them. Armies may move and support unimpeded; but fleets may not. What is to be done about that? Game Masters, please respond.

Look at this sick bastard. This wealthy american paid thousands to corrupt gamekeepers to be allowed to hunt down and shoot a triceratops in the wild. Creatures like this will soon be extinct if scumbags like this are allowed to get their way, just because they're rich they think they can do as they please:

The War of Tumblr versus 4Chan
Anyone else watching the war of Tumblr vs. 4Chan play out? It's getting heated and somewhat illegal. Then again, it may not and it's all a bluff from both sides. But if it is true then there must be a lot of hackers with free-time and no need to gain any monetary value.

Realpolitik Diplomacy-sign ups
Realpolitik diplomacy is diplomacy with a twist, unlike the standard game, this game will be played with a internal politics mechanism. Instead of playing as a country, you play as a political party within that country, vying not only to be the dominant force on the board, but also to command the loyalties of your electorate. See in side for the rules.
