25 Feb 10 UTC Spring, 1: Greetings All and Good Luck!
25 Feb 10 UTC Spring, 1: Just curious. Has anyone ever played "The Ancient Mediterranean" before?
For the record, I have not so I look forward to it.
25 Feb 10 UTC Spring, 1: my first time as well
25 Feb 10 UTC Spring, 1: Something came up unexpectedly and I have to go out of town for the weekend and I may or may not have an internet connection, so if you do not hear from me till Sunday or Monday it isn't that I am ignoring you. I will vote pause but if you do not want to thats fine. the first move shouldn't be too surprising anyway.

25 Feb 10 UTC Spring, 1: It's my first time as well. =) Pausing is fine with me. =p
28 Feb 10 UTC Autumn, 1: I am back....I was able to access a friend's computer while I was out of town so let the games begin...
02 Mar 10 UTC Autumn, 2: The red, green, yellow and blue in the four seas in the middle look so pretty! =)
02 Mar 10 UTC Autumn, 2: And just out of curiousity, can you move to Baleares by land?
02 Mar 10 UTC Autumn, 2: It's complicated. Have a look at the rules for this variant:

http://www.variantbank.org/results/rules/a/ancient_mediterranean.htm

I just realised I can build fleets in Thebes and Memphis.
03 Mar 10 UTC Autumn, 2: Thanks. =) YOU CAN? WHOA. =D That's exciting.
05 Mar 10 UTC Autumn, 3: best of luck to the rest of you
09 Mar 10 UTC Spring, 5: You really should have destroyed your fleet instead of an army. Alright make the following moves and we will try to salvage your situation.

A Cartage -> Thapsus
A Cirta support A Mauretania -> Sahara
F Thapsus -> Numidia
A Numidia -> Phazannia

With luck we should be able to destroy the Egyptain A Sahara.
09 Mar 10 UTC Spring, 5: o.O
16 Mar 10 UTC Spring, 8: I believe the stalemate line has been reached. Shall we all set Draw and call it a worthy match?
19 Mar 10 UTC Spring, 9: No center has changed ownership since '04, after 3 years without a center changing ownership it is time to set Draw as there isn't much change of a break through being made at this point....
19 Mar 10 UTC Spring, 9: You don't have a stalemate line though.
19 Mar 10 UTC Spring, 9: If we continue to play, we will break through and one of us will win. If you want to quit that's fine, but I actually want to play the game, not give up half way through.
19 Mar 10 UTC Spring, 9: I hate this yellow text.
19 Mar 10 UTC Spring, 9: As you can see though, Carthage will lose Numidia next turn.
19 Mar 10 UTC Spring, 9: A center has not changed hands in 4 game years, so when is this big break through supposed to happen? Apparently you are really just waiting for someone to abandon. If you read the rules after 3 years without a center changing hands it is considered a Draw. We have already pasted that mark.
19 Mar 10 UTC Autumn, 9: You keep saying that you have a stalemate line and we keep pushing you back. You don't seem to know what a stalemate line is. Of course, the only hope you seem to have is for us to give up and agree a draw. I'm sure you can see that Numidia will change hands next turn. If it doesn't I will happily agree to a draw, but if you don't want to play the game, why do you bother joining one?
19 Mar 10 UTC Autumn, 9: Oh I am playing the game. In my opinion I have fought harder and against much greater odds than you have and all things being equal, I am certain that with equal forces I would and could out general you. Doubtful I will get the chance in this game, as I would dearly love to allow you the chance to prove me wrong.

But instead you managed to convince the Greek to tie my forces down and allow you a free hand while Egypt could take out Cartage at a painfully slow snail's pace.

If the Greek was sensible he would not maintain such an an unnatural Alliance with Egypt using him so poorly with no hope for Greek expansion while Egypt has the only chance for a solo win, but apparently you have the Greek under your spell and the Greek cannot understand how much you are taking advantage of his loyalty.

You see, I do not mind being out fought, but you Sir have not out fought me and while your objective has been very successful to hide behind the Greek, allowing the Greek to do all your dirty work while Egypt has not been molested.

Your cowardly tactics may prove effective and you might pull out a win, but I personally do not think much of a country of10 centers attacking a nation with better than 2 to one odds and being unable to take a center in 4 years.

You may win, but you will do so without gaining any respect or honor and only because of overwhelming odds.

As for your statement that we keep pushing you back...yes some territory has changed hands and it will likely continue to change hands. We are, and have been skirmishing for position. You have not pushed me out of a center and for the record the center that Greece pushed me out of was to give me time to get my forces into a defensive position. I believe that at the time I told him that Eventually I would lose a fleet and build an army and fall back upon a defensive position that he could not break which is what happened and since we have had limited contact I will point out that I have pushed your units back as often or more often then you have pushed mine back.

Numidia should change hands. But we shall see.

In answer to your last question, I join games to play in an exciting and dynamic game matching wits with worthy rivals and most importantly to have fun. This game with its slow build up of forces and little real interaction has not been very exciting, dynamic or much fun. This game has been the closest to a Gunboat game that I have played in a press game.

Naturally I do not blame you for all of that, it could be the map, with only 5 players there are fewer options for alliances and once one player is eliminated either one of two things appear to happen, either an alliance of two on two which is what happened here, or no alliances really form and everyone fights on their own which might be more interesting if much less likely...Perhaps this map would play better in a gunboat game? Don't know yet....but those are my thoughts...for what they are worth.
19 Mar 10 UTC Autumn, 9: Looking over the map I do not think you will take Numidia so I guess we will see if you are truthful.

Egypt, you made the statement Ythat if Numbia did not change hands this season you would accept that a stalemate line has been reached and Set Draw? I just want to make certain I understood you correctly and that you will stand by your pledge
