Some people prefer to play PPSC. I forget to check sometimes when I join a gunboat game. Not everyone rolls the way I do.

Agreed. PPSC makes it far too easy for players to conspire and gain easy points by eliminating a few and splitting the pot. This has happened to me far too often, and it is contrary to the intended strategy of Diplomacy.

I feel like if the ultimate goal is to reach 18 centers, then your other goal is to prevent somebody else from reaching 18 centers. I feel WTA is the true way to play. And PPSC is just present because of the points. I feel like people are willing to accept a 2nd place(which might as well be last place) just because of points.

I had a recent game which showcased this and it pissed me off to the point where I only want to play WTA from here on out. Quite annoyed with PPSC and the mentalities that come with it.

When I was more of a greener I believed that PPSC was a good idea,
but now,... I'll only join games in the true spirit of the game: WTA ! :))

Exactly Dharm! I feel the same! When I first started I was afraid of WTA for some reason...I guess I felt PPSC would reward me better for not being as good a player.

I think The Czech is being facetious here? ... he knows damn well what PPSC is all about.

Lol I agree there Yellowjacket, I've seen the Czech go out of his way several times to allow someone else the win in PPSC, just to ensure he gets a small point profit with more supply centers.

@Yellowjacket: He didn't realize it was PPSC when he joined, and that is why he was confused. He was playing as though it was a WTA game.

It was decided long ago that PPSC will stay because several people enjoy it. webdip (well, I should say phpdip) started with PPSC. When WTA came about it was a big change. I honestly hate PPSC as well, but kestas has long said he wants it in and there is a large group that still enjoy playing it.

I agree with that. There's really no point to remove something that people arent forced to play if they dont want to.

Yes, and for what it's worth I think Kestas is right that PPSC is more beginner friendly. I liked it a lot from the start. It's only when confronted with the inherent flaws in the variant that most people will want to start to change over.

PPSC may or may not be closer to the creator's original idea, but so what? The basic premise of diplomacy is adapting to what you find in front of dealing with it. People who fail to deal with the different challanges that PPSC throw up should not blame the game, but look at themselves.

Everytime I play poker live somebody has a big hand cracked by a lesser hand and then blame the dealers, or the tournament structure or even the waitresses. There is a choice of game that they can play in and then blame the one they choose. I am often reminded about the WTA advocates when I see those responses.

If you don't like PPSC don't play it, but allow others that do enjoy it to continue to do so without all this crap about one version being 'better' or 'truer' or more original than another.

It doesn't matter taos. You don't need to be able to write English like a native, IMHO. The content is more important than the style. I often encounter very good players who obviously do not speak English as a first language, but they still manage to "sell" me their ideas.
