Any graduate student/professor of Psychology on this site?
I am interested in doing a correlational study concerning the game of Diplomacy and its players. For starter, I want to correlate myers-briggs/keirsey personalities and general intelligence with game performance, chat frequency, and country preference.
If you are interested, please post here or PM me if you are concerned with your RL identity (preferred).

Wait, can we only participate if we're in Psychology?
zultar (4180 DMod(P))

No, I want to work with someone who are experts.
Once we put the survey together, then we'll make it available to everyone to take. I was going to email you, abge, to fully explain what I intended.
So, experts in psy or statistics, please post here or PM me.

Can you tell me why you want to use Myers-Briggs/Keirsey instead of the far more accepted Big 5 of personality? And how do you want to measure GI? I hope not by asking people about it? And if you want to measure it with a real test, how can you be sure the person answering it is the real player?
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
19 Dec 11 UTC
I find MB/K analyses much more interesting than the Big 5. I've studied both and tested for both and found MB/K more accurate and insightful the Big 5. However, having said that, if there is a consensus here that the big 5 is more valid/reliable, that would be fine with me. I am not set on using MB/K.
I don't plan on asking people what they think their personalities/IQ are. I want to use reliable tests for personalities as well as IQ. The only thing I would ask for would be players' preference or their opinions regarding questions specific to Diplomacy or whatever we think would be interesting regarding Diplomacy.
Regarding the last question, this is where I would ask the mods for help. Once we agree to a set of tests and questions, we would compile them into a single survey sent out to the volunteers who would like to participate (which I hope would be plentiful if we sell it right and ask the right people to support).

What if we don't have an MB/K result? I've enevr taken it and don't plan to spend the money just so you can have it for a survey. IQ I could give you along with retaking it to prove it, but not MB/K.

Well, if I can get some people to help, we can find a free survey for you to take (we can even compile the data ourselves). We would not ask for your results; we would send the survey out ourselves and calculate them. Humans are notoriously bad at self-reporting.

I thought MBTI was no longer widely accepted in the psychology world. If true, you'll be hard pressed to find a professor willIing to help you out, zultar.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))

I am not set on using MBTI/K. If indeed the Big 5 or another measure is more widely accepted, then we can go with that.

I normally don't comment on these, but... I'll just say, look at the gap at the top of the list at your own risk...

George Will at it again. Brilliant!
In 1927, the corrupt politicians of Washington state created a monopoly of ferry rights on Lake Chelan to a company owned by cronies. Today a pair of brothers have a case challenging this monopoly and Will writes brilliantly about it. If you European and not American don't waste your time.

1) Please join me in congratulating FK on his promotion to Admin
2) I have drafted a set of guidelines containing every possible scenario I could think of. It is being reviewed by the rest of the mod team now. Although Mods will still have autonomy, it will serve as an official reference for us, so we can do a better job at making consistent decisions.

Face-to-face Diplomacy in NYC
The website told me to write a four-line summary because my post was too big  I'm organizing a Face-to-Face game in New York City, with the hopes to eventually create a "proper" F2F community! Pitch follows.

Ron Paul is officially an idiot...
I just watched him tell Jay Leno he is against seatbelt laws. His argument that people have a right to do with their own body is all fine and good, but seatlbelts keep the driver behind the wheel and in better copntrol of their car, therbye protecting the lives of others. He has just proven he is an idiot that can't be put in power.

Everyone's Holiday Reading? (Suggestions?)
Well, it's the Holidays--sorry, it's "CHRISTMAS TIME," for all those "War on Christmas" folks--and I know we have a lot of avid readers on the site...and I just finished the two novels I had left over from my semester's worth of free reading ("The Brothers Karamazov," which was decent but 200 pages too long, and "Tess of the D'urbervilles," which was good, if not a tad anti-climactic) and I was wondering--what's everyone reading? Suggestions?
